I'm hanging on to my Klipsch RP-600M because they got relegated to my office (90%)time spent here and teamed up with a vintage Sansui with loudness. Sometimes switch over to a vintage Technics. All genuine fun.
Good review, You’re right they do mate better with certain amps, I have the original 600m’s and have them mated with my Marantz 1511 receiver, the 1511 has a setting that you can roll off the highs a little which sounds wonderful with my 600m’s. I love these speakers.
I have them paired with the Cambridge axa25. The axa25 tames the 600 II highs and the 600 II brings out the axa25’s bass, especially in quiet listening.
I just acquired the Klipsch RP-6000F II for an insane deal. These are different in a good way. Not as bright and a bit more midrange detail. So far I am enjoying them. Great review!
Good review. I recently picked up the original RP600Ms directly from Klipsch for $250. Couldn’t resist. Regarding the soundstage on these speakers: sitting near field with the speakers 6 feet apart and toed in slightly, the music sounds like it’s coming from the speakers, between the speakers, or directly in front of you, as well as over the speakers. It’s really pretty incredible and I have no idea how they accomplish this.
The Fletcher Munson thing comes into play for me. I live in an apartment and am very conscious of not being rude to my neighbors, and I've never liked listening to music that loud anyway, so a speaker with a mild bump in the treble and bass works for me. It makes the music feel just a little more alive at the fairly low volumes I listen at. "Cranking it" (something I almost never do) for me is maybe 70db. Most of my listening is probably more like the mid-to-low 60s.
I totally agree with this. I’ve tried out lots of different speakers for fun in the last few years and I’ve definitely discovered that I gravitate towards slightly “U/V-shaped” speakers because I almost always listen at sub-80db volumes. I totally respect speakers with a ruler flat response and get why it’s an engineering goal, but a lot of those flat-measuring speakers sound lifeless to me a low volumes.
All spekers sound better with a tube amp at any volume. Try one. Its like a tube amp has "auto loudness" function full time. But behaves when you turn it up. Some solid state amps sound great down low with loudness on, if you can find one. Agreed.
I love Klipsch sales... got a pair of RP-160M for 250 dollars. I've heard 600Ms in a shop and honestly couldn't say that there were a lot of difference between 160 and 600. Though 600-2 might be a real upgrade now.
When the 600M MkI was first released it was $549, then increased to $649 and finally $699 throughout the last couple years. I have the MkI that I paid $300 refurbished and owned for over two years, powered by a NAD D3045 integrated and I thought it’s a good combo. I’m tempted to try MkII but I’ll wait till these hit $400 and below.

Great review Randy. I’ve been a Klipsch fan for a long time. Viewers of this video should listen carefully to your component matching recommendations. I like my gear warm… sometimes glowing (tubes)! My gen-one RP- 600Ms are great with low watt tube amps. Happy Fourth of July.
Same here! I just picked up a pair a few months ago and hooked it up to my 8 w/Chan SET and it sounds so transparent with sweet mids. Really tamed the treble nicely.
I love Klipsch, I will listen to the new ones for shure but never will get rid of my RP-600m. They sound so good with my Marantz PM7000n. I still may get the new ones if the sound is clearly different.
Great video Randy, I always trust your judgement. It is clear you know what you are talking about when it comes to all things audio. Keep up the good work good man.
Klipsch RP160M on sale for $199 also the fluance reference $129 and signature $169 both on sale. I'm thinking Klipsch? Like Fluance though and for the price what do you think?
Great review Randy. Everyone should have a pair of Klipsch speakers around the house if you like the Klipsch sound. I couldn't agree more, but I am 2 generations behind, have to think about upgrading when some sales start happening.

So balling on a budget would you recommend this speaker? Especially at 499? Music choices being death metal, grind, slam and hardcore. Like knocked loose peeling flesh stuff like that??
I purchased a pair of NEW RP-600M II on eBay, but grade B/open box, for half retail price. In fact I purchased all my Klipsch speakers this way. All came brand new, and I did find one tiny ding on one cabinet on my pair of RP-8000F II.
I like what you say about both svs prime and 600m2. Having a very difficult decision between which set to buy just listening to your review of both. Before you mentioned to perfer svs prime over 600m. Your analysis still the same with m2?
Thanks for the review. You closed with pairing, and it’s been on my mind so much lately. Do subwoofers also benefit from thoughtful pairing or is clean bass more the same across the board. If I’m getting Klipsch speakers is there a strong reason to stick to Klipsch subwoofer?
Randy, if you ever get the chance and/or come across any vintage B&K Components amplifiers like the ST-140 or EX-442 etc., Snag one up and pair your Klipsch RP-500m or 600II to it. I'm convinced there is absolutely no better of a solid state amp matching combo for the Klipsch sound signature. Even better than pairing with my vintage NAD 3020 Series 20 amp (both are considered warm). The B&K amps are like a budget-minded Nelson Pass design with super short signal paths and far better than his budget ADCOM stuff he personally designed that were their primary rivals of the time and classics as well. Stereophile raved over them and even said that the ST-140 was the first enjoyable solid state amp they had ever heard when searching for something that was reminiscent of tube amps. Budget king amps of the late 80s and 90s. IMO the very best vintage/used value amplifier one can possibly buy when searching for the highest value warm sounding amplifier, used of course. New I agree with your Cambridge recommendation. 👍🏻Klipsch and a B&K ST-140 on eBay for around $200-400 will beat almost any amplifier/Klipsch combo until you get to several THOUSAND dollars for new gear. Maybe if I get a second B&K soon I'll send you an ST-140 to borrow haha 😅😁👍🏻🤘🏻 as always, much love, brother! I hope you've been enjoying Metallica live videos as much as I have with hell being frozen over aka Lars playing on original tempo and more importantly, TIGHT, and James' voice sounding better than 10 years ago. Yes, we are alive, and, Damn, it feels good. Cannot kill the battery 😎
Thanks for the great review Randy! hope you could also review the 6000f and 5000f MKII and give us your perspective on how they compare to their bookshelf siblings even though i know you have a preference for bookshelf speakers lol
I had just purchased these Klipsch 600m II for my bedroom system which a Klipsch 600c from my center channel speaker and wonder in my bedroom system if the Klipsch 1000 10” subwoofer would be fine which my older Klipsch 10” downward firing subwoofer was great with output yet that was back in 2000 and have have in ceiling speakers in my cathedral ceilings in my bedroom and now thinking to use my unopened Klipsch surround speakers hooked up and wonder if my rear in ceiling speakers could be used as Dolby Atmos speakers which if okay- I would need to switch my high end sonance speakers I believe to a Klipsch ones. Only need a home theater receiver speaker for the bedroom system. Any Ideas not expensive- like wonder if a Denon 4800 receiver would be fine and at a great opened box deal compared to around $2500 or a Marantz cinema 50 which I’ve always used. Not sure price difference- any help?
I think you should go back a little, to some the groups that made the bands you enjoy listening to today possible. How long has it been since you listened to Killer, and School's Out? Or even Easy Action? If there had never been an Alice Cooper, there would most certainly never have been a Cinderella. At least, check out Halo of Flies, Desperado, and Dead Babies from Killer. Hard to recommend any singles from School's Out, 'cause the whole album is just so damn much fun to listen to.
yeah, I got these bad boys under 500 direct from Kplisch and wow blew my mind! I heard them with and with out my sub and loved it more w/the sub but still enjoyed them without. My next project will be to take these speakers to the next level by getting a GR-Reasearch crossover upgrade.
Randy, Happy Father's Day! I am a very big fan of yours and always enjoy and learn something new from your videos. Great job with this one too! I just purchased a pair of Klipsch RP-160M from Cruthfield about 2 weeks ago for $299 on sale. This model was replaced by the RP 600M. Now that they're broken in, they sound fantastic with my Yamaha RX-A3080 and 2 YST-SW315's (10" subs from Yamaha). Would you consider doing a video comparing the new RP-600M with the RP-160M? Just curios. Take care, Joe C.
Pairing is a great point/issue to raise that I suspect a lot of people are not aware of. I’ve said before, the 600M to me was quite harsh, shrill even at higher levels when paired with a mid range class D. The 600 MII is less harsh up high, but still has that Klipsch sound. They both sounded nice at lower levels paired to a small tube amp. I want a speaker that can play loud, but not one that is fatiguing, so do I get a different speaker, or just turn down the treble?
Bought a set on sale, still 750 canadian, running a yamaha As-801 amp, wicked combination dynamic and does the band disturbed to concert levels with no distortion or excess brightness, i dont even use the sub most of the time unless im in competition with the neiborette.
Thank you for the review. Knowing the employee cost it wouldn't surprise me if they end up close to 550 as the "low" number of the sales range. Picked them up for my rear and surround speakers in a 7.2.4 setup
How do they compare to the evo 4.1s? They seem to be around the same price. I want to get a pair of 4.1s, but their lack of vertical imaging still keeps me on the search for something else.
I don't daily drive my Klipsch (rp600m and rp280f). But when I do rotate them into the system it's either incredibly satisfying or it's a reminder of why they couldn't be my ONE set. It's either "how do you do that? (In a great way) or "why did you do THAT?" (When they fall short)
MY og 600M's are 2 years old, and i feel no need to change them. They are horrible with the Emotiva TA1. I bought some SSCS 5's and they are damn good with the TA1. Thanks for putting little chapters in your vids...it was about damn time.
Glad Randy mentioned pairing these speakers with the right amp. It’s important. I play mine through a old pioneer SX-3700 45 watts receiver. Sounds great!
Randy, you should get a pair of Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversary from Music Direct, usually between $499 - $599, it has the build quality of a $1K speaker and actually in my opinion sounds a bit better than the Denton 85th. Sound aside, the build quality alone with real wood veneer makes them a bargain at $500
Just got my SVS Ultras and Elac Carina 243.4s .. so no new speakers for me. Thanks for the review though. You bring enlightenment and wonderful sound to many. Take care.
I enjoy the original the RP-600M so much, I personally don't feel the need to replace them with the RP-600M II. But I think that's going to be the question. If you already own the RP-600M is it worth updating/upgrading to the RP-600M II?
Hey Randy, now, I heard you're a longtime Klipsch fan. There were two other Klipsch brands that are now defunct, Mirage and Energy. Did you ever get a chance to listen to any of the Mirage or Energy loudspeakers?
Are those audiophile ferns in the TV room? I have to agree with your view that Klipsch sound great with warmer amps. My Klipsch/300b combo is a fantastic pairing.
RP 600 M I don’t believe Calip speakers are the best. I got RP center channel speaker and I don’t think I like it because it’s not something that stands out their new reference premier series I don’t know what to make it.
My first thought: MAYBE worth a look. It's at least the CLASS of speaker I am looking for ...hold on, 1350AUD!!! With very directly competing and genuinely competitive products from other companies for $4-500 less at about any retailer (no discounts or anything, just full-price RRP), too. Gimme a break, Klipsch. If you don't want us to buy it just don't sell it here.
Which speakers up to 800,00USD$ (but preferably less, or something that goes on sale often for less) you believe is THE very best pair in terms of pure micro and macro detail retrieving and revealing, please? Just detail troughout all frequencies, making you listen to things you never did before in songs, without caring much about anything else other than pure sound information, and specially not caring much at all about bass.
I'm not an audiophile, i can't afford to be lol, but from what I've heard end read in reviews, i can't see Klipsch being the kind of sounds i would want to buy into. I can't say for definite until i heard live, but what i hear in videos, i always end up preferring the alternative option when compared to each other
How does the speaker pair with ayima or some of the other Chinese amps that youbhave reviewed? I found a great deal here in Australia on the originals but still looking for an amp. Its either a used 10 year old Marantz etc or one of the Chinese amps. This will be replacing a sound bar setup so how does the dialogue sound? Main use will be movies or TV shows.
If you look at Erin's channel and website, he compares the FR of the original 500 and 600 to the new versions. The tweeters are still quite hot, almost the same response between the MKI and MKII versions. The biggest difference is that the new 500 and 600 don't have the big dip between 2 and 3khz that the originals have
Just a note about the Sony SSCS5s in your recommended list. They have been running between $180-$200+ the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it's a short term thing but just thought you should know for future recommendations.
@@ADREISTER I got a pair back when they were only $88 last November. I was talking to a buddy and was recommending them for a starter budget option. But then saw they were over $200. Wtaf?
Love the aggro of the previous model with my metal and punk records (got a coupla late 70s, early 80s amps) These just don't cut it. Better for jazz and classical sure, but not my cuppa.....coffee !
So..you and I have very similar music tastes! Add some Kix, Kiss, Panterra! I'm redoing my entire system and was planning to get these along with the Rotel A12MKII. But, someone brought up the Sonos Faber Lumina 1 or 2's. They are twice the cost. But which would you go for with the type of music listed?!
You have good taste in music. I've had the 600's with a Rotel A14. Sure, they are fun and kicks a punch, but at least the originals had a big hole where the main midrange should meet the tweeter. That results in electric guitars that sounds thin and without body and "meat". It was hard to get a subwoofer to meet the speaker at the right crossover, also making for a "hole" in the presentation. The Klipsch's are great for radio pop and standard rock, but not so much for Heaven's On Fire or Cowboys From Hell 😄 After a year I bought a pair of JBL HDI-3600 instead and they satisfy me to great lengths 😄
@@TheMack back when music was fun! My Black Sabbath, Dio, Ozzy, Iron Maiden albums are still close to my heart. Fell back in love with vinyl also...the way its going, this gift to myself is going to be $$$$. I have enough expensive hobbies! Lol
@@kawlreaper he he, so true! I love all those bands, was listening to Black Sabbath live album "The End", man just listen to "Dirty women"! The mix is great and sounds killer! Although, unfortunately, for us metal heads, judging a hi-end system when playing Ozzy's "Crazy babies" is not exactly "hi-fi" 😅 Nowadays I buy equipment that plays MY music well, even if it was recorded in a pizza box 😄
Interesting speakers, maybe for my bedroom even though I already have better speakers for the task. 1st gen RF-7s in the LR system with RC-7/RS-7s and RSW12 sub.
Specs are never complete or all encompassing, which renders them somewhat unusable. It is so much easier to perceive a given amount of loudness between 750 and 2 kHz, than it is above and below that range, so standardized SPL measurements could maybe be best represented @ 1.25 kHz; but since, however, it takes much more sound to perceive low frequencies and high frequencies at the same volume, so I’ve got a wonder that, even if the readings are averaged over frequency, how would one ever really know how “easy” it is to drive a pair of loudspeakers to get decent low frequency response. 😉 It seems to me that any speaker with a forward sound and a high SPL rating may be just as hard or harder to drive to a decent out bass output than one with a few dB lower.. 🤔 i’ve heard Randy say in the past that speakers with lower SPL numbers were louder than other speakers with higher numbers, suggesting that some manufacturers were cheating or lying or whatever, but it’s all in the definition and the implementation of the test, which is usually not reported; only the standard X dB SPL@1W@1meter. You even have to make assumptions about where the measuring device is placed at that distance in front of the face of the speaker cabinet 🤣

Klipsch going to be like jtr shape horn. Klipsch should make new RF-7 IV with same shape as a RP-8000F II and put same twitter from germany as a jtr do
I think that was mostly based on the dip in the frequency response. Most agree that was intentional, and not a mistake. The drivers can be EQd to put that section flatter if you desire, and with that in mind I think the speaker performs relatively ok.
@@erics.4113 Fair point and I accept that I was probably overly critical based on one man's opinion (and measurements). He - like many others - is obsessed with a flat frequency response and that might not be what the Klipsch engineers were aiming for in that price bracket.

for my bedroom system which a Klipsch 600c from my center channel speaker and wonder in my bedroom system if the Klipsch 1000 10” subwoofer would be fine which my older Klipsch 10” downward firing subwoofer was great with output yet that was back in 2000 and have have in ceiling speakers in my cathedral ceilings in my bedroom and now thinking to use my unopened Klipsch surround speakers hooked up and wonder if my rear in ceiling speakers could be used as Dolby Atmos speakers which if okay- I would need to switch my high end sonance speakers I believe to a Klipsch ones.
I would love to see a review of the F model, as I have purchsed the RP5000F, Love it....
I have waiting for this review from you 😊
yeah, I got these bad boys under 500 direct from Kplisch and wow blew my mind!
I think I may have made that exact video a while back. the 160m is similar to the 600's. the first gen. great speaker at a great price
I have a marantz 2265b, with either the 15k or 9kz filter on and it's pretty amazing...
Bought a set on sale, still 750 canadian, running a yamaha As-801 amp, wicked combination dynamic and does the band disturbed to concert levels with no distortion or excess brightness, i dont even use the sub most of the time unless im in competition with the neiborette.
Hey Cheap great review. What about Yamaha Advantage receiver? Good pairing or a no no ?
Great review Randy! Sounds like we like the same music...which helps when making decisions on speaker. Can't wait to hear them on my Emotiva A2!
Just stopping by to say thank you for the content. I can't watch the review yet, but I'm very excited about this one. Have a great day!
Thanks, you too!
Great way to frame that up
MY og 600M's are 2 years old, and i feel no need to change them.
Sound aside, the build quality alone with real wood veneer makes them a bargain at $500
Happy 4th from Kent and Rosa , I did get the Polk Xt 20 you recommend pair great with the Xt 35 center. ! Take Care
No stick with the originals otherwise you will always be spending more money for no good reason.
@@Gadgetdad007 I agree. I own the original 600's and the MK2 seems to be a marginal upgrade.
@@TheMack the originals have more bass slam and that’s what i like.
@@Gadgetdad007 Agreed. That's why we like Klipsch, to get that fun factor 😀
@@Gadgetdad007 buy a cheap subwoofer instead and pair it with the first gen Klipsch...
Hello, mister.
When can we see your active speakers rewiew?
Do you think the Yamaha A-S801 would be a good fit with these?
Would you pick the Klipsch RP 600m (v1) over the Jamo S809s? Right now I can get either for the same price
Awesome stuff!
The RP-500m V1's are currently $300 on Amazon... Worth it for someone just getting into the hobby?
We’re you testing just as 2.0 or 2.1 with a sub for TV/movie duty?
RP600M's are on sale for $300 at Adorama this week.
Love this guy a real everyday meathead like all of us an honest look at stuff
Hey Randy, now, I heard you're a longtime Klipsch fan. There were two other Klipsch brands that are now defunct, Mirage and Energy. Did you ever get a chance to listen to any of the Mirage or Energy loudspeakers?
NAD C388 is a good amp to use with Klipsch speakers.
Are those audiophile ferns in the TV room? I have to agree with your view that Klipsch sound great with warmer amps. My Klipsch/300b combo is a fantastic pairing.
Great review, Randy. How do these compare to the Monitor Audio Bronze 100? 🤘🤘
Should I sell my Lascalla's
Like your taste in music.
What sample do you use for your title screens? I just can't quite put my finger on it.
Do yourself a big favor and get the Dr.Butcher vinyl !
Hey dude, hope would a WIIM pair with these?
RP 600 M I don’t believe Calip speakers are the best. I got RP center channel speaker and I don’t think I like it because it’s not something that stands out their new reference premier series I don’t know what to make it.
What are your other websites ? I'd like to see them !
Great review Randy, unbiased and fair!
Agree!
I disagree with this review. These speakers have a Well-Balanced Tone presentation! Treble is NOT emphasized! I just love them.
Aren't you the guy that made a video telling us that the 600M II doesn't sound as good as the previous version?
Which speakers up to 800,00USD$ (but preferably less, or something that goes on sale often for less) you believe is THE very best pair in terms of pure micro and macro detail retrieving and revealing, please? Just detail troughout all frequencies, making you listen to things you never did before in songs, without caring much about anything else other than pure sound information, and specially not caring much at all about bass.
When these go on sale, they will be worth it. But yeah, pretty much an A/B is required.
klipsch needs to make Tower speakers 8 inch single driver speakers again love my t 3000
I'm not an audiophile, i can't afford to be lol, but from what I've heard end read in reviews, i can't see Klipsch being the kind of sounds i would want to buy into.
I can't say for definite until i heard live, but what i hear in videos, i always end up preferring the alternative option when compared to each other
Sad that klipsch got bought out by audiovox they are known to cheapen the product for higher profits. ☹️
Randy can you PLEASE try to get your hands on some MartinLogan Motion 35XTi’s! Would love to hear your thoughts on those beasts!
Is this for real?
No, that’s a scammer!
how do these or the first gen pair with denon AVRs ?
If you look at Erin's channel and website, he compares the FR of the original 500 and 600 to the new versions. The tweeters are still quite hot, almost the same response between the MKI and MKII versions. The biggest difference is that the new 500 and 600 don't have the big dip between 2 and 3khz that the originals have
Please do the new floor standing 600 and 500 series. You gave a great review on those of last year's version.
I have. The old version of these speakers and they sit on a shelf very close to the wall (no choice). Should I plug the rear port? If so with what?
You should do what sounds better to you
A sock in each port
@@nacarp2000 sweat sock or dress one?
I got these on sale from Audio Advice for $380 delivered.
Correction $329 plus tax from Adorama
Just a note about the Sony SSCS5s in your recommended list. They have been running between $180-$200+ the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it's a short term thing but just thought you should know for future recommendations.
I was lucky enough to get sweet used pair from Amazon for only $75!
@@ADREISTER I got a pair back when they were only $88 last November. I was talking to a buddy and was recommending them for a starter budget option. But then saw they were over $200. Wtaf?
I believe the price should be no more then 550 to max 600 USD , 750 $ is too expensive I would say.
Buy the RP 500 they measure better and sound better, even thow the meqsurement are kind of crap on both for what they charge from them.
I like dynamic speakers for theater but for music I like something more natural. These look great, but yeah, they are too pricey.
Love the aggro of the previous model with my metal and punk records (got a coupla late 70s, early 80s amps) These just don't cut it. Better for jazz and classical sure, but not my cuppa.....coffee !
Nice camera work there. That speaker looked heavy. 😉
I put cork mats under my DIY speakers. I guess I must be really smart then
I’ll be doing more of that. It’s a great idea!
These speakers are great fun listening to. I married my wife because she’s fun, not because she’s refined.
Thanks!
thank you so much, Skye!
Damn 7 minutes late Moring Randy thanks for posting
$397 on Amazon for 1st Gen
Specs are never complete or all encompassing, which renders them somewhat unusable.
It is so much easier to perceive a given amount of loudness between 750 and 2 kHz, than it is above and below that range,
so standardized SPL measurements could maybe be best represented @ 1.25 kHz; but since, however, it takes much more sound to perceive low frequencies and high frequencies at the same volume, so I’ve got a wonder that, even if the readings are averaged over frequency, how would one ever really know how “easy” it is
to drive a pair of loudspeakers to get decent low frequency response. 😉
It seems to me that any speaker with a forward sound and a high SPL rating may be just as hard or harder to drive to a decent out bass output than one with a few dB lower.. 🤔 i’ve heard Randy say in the past that speakers with lower SPL numbers were louder than other speakers with higher numbers, suggesting that some manufacturers were cheating or lying or whatever, but it’s all in
the definition and the implementation of the test, which is usually not reported;
only the standard
X dB SPL@1W@1meter. You even have to make assumptions about where the measuring device is placed at that distance in front of the face of the speaker cabinet 🤣
Adorama has the previous generation for 300 (!). I cannot post the link here it seems...
I filter out the links automatically. People post all sorts of craziness in here.

Klipsch going to be like jtr shape horn. Klipsch should make new RF-7 IV with same shape as a RP-8000F II and put same twitter from germany as a jtr do
If Amir is to be believed Klipsch really tanked it with the Mk1 - beats me but that woofer seems to have potential.
