I liked Zero, but I ironically feel that Code Veronica is a little overrated. However, that mostly comes from its insanely outdated gameplay, Zero is still mostly playable and RE1HD is still a masterpiece. I would absolutely be first in line to buy a RECV Remake with the quality of RE2R and RE4R, the game has a good story and premise still, it just doesn't hold up quite as well as the other Tank Controls games in terms of gameplay.
I still haven't finished RE7. That's how scary it is. The color palette, the 1st person mode, the possessed Mia, the monsters, the creepy Baker house. It's all too much.
For me, nothing can beat how scary the RE 1 Remake is 😳 the atmosphere, the story, and the graphic somehow make it so terrifying. Probably also because it was the first RE game that I played but then I was too chicken to finish it so I just watched my brother playing it 😅😂
I played it as a child and never found it scary, I thought of it as a hidden expedition game because I would often struggle to find things because of the camera angles, whenever something hit me because I couldn't see it, I didn't get scared, just annoyed, and I'd think "Well that was a cheap shot"

I need to bring this up more: despite the legend, Nemesis' spawning actually isn't totally random in the original RE3N. The reality is that there's a list of trigger events that cause Nemesis to appear, and a significant percentage of these are scripted as "chase sequences", so you can run from him, but Nemesis will follow for about 4-5 room transitions before he despawns. Once you've played the game enough times, you can literally memorize when Nemesis will appear in response to which of the actions you take, but there's so many specific triggers that, combined with the relatively non-linear nature of RE3N, the illusion of a persistent stalker is pulled off very successfully.
I remember the first time I played 3 and Nemesis jumped through the window. Scared the crap out of me, but I was like, “all I gotta do is get to the next room…” go into the evidence room, take a second to breathe and then I hear the door open and Nemesis followed! Yea I had to open my inventory and take a 5 after that… lol
Resident evil 1 remake is my favourite in series I remember it scaring the hell out of me as kid Lisa Trevor creeped me out so much her backstory was so sad and tragic I really want capcom to do a more updated remake of this game again
5. RE 8 (The baby monster is one of the scariest moments in RE) 4. RE 1 (Crimson heads, Zombie dog jump scare) 3. RE Code Veronica (Bosses just creep me out) 2. RE 7 (Amazing setting, scary moments, and everything) 1. RE 2 Remake (My first experience with a roaming enemy, the sound design of his footsteps caused me to pause the game and call my buddy who reccomended me the Resident Evil series and ask how to deal with him, bot to mention the setting is just soo scary)

Resident Evil 2: Remake deserves *at least* one spot higher because (1) Unlike Jill and Carlos are veteran soldiers who can dodge & *punch* their way out of a zombie battle, Leon and Claire are just two *completely* ordinary kids who have likely never shot and killed *anything* prior to that awful night. Unfortunately, you don’t get that luxury with *the* most terrifying monster of the *franchise* , the child-predator cop Brian Irons, which are all too *real* in *our* world. Playing as helpless little Sherry hiding from that degenerate freak scared me more than fighting *any* monster in the series before or since.
@@NerdSpaceGames Glad to finally be able to converse with you, Mr Space. I found much to relate to and enjoy in your videos. Biggest problem with this imo is in RE2R both Leon and Claire don’t really act scared. Examples like, when you look at the police computer on B scenario and see Mr X. “Bet he’s not part of a rescue team.” Or after Leon takes out the alligator in the sewers. “Chew on that you overgrown son of a ….” In 2 original both protagonists truly seem like innocents/regular people. After all of these years I can still remember when talking to Ben and you hear Birkin yell in the background. Both Bens and Leons expressions are of terror. Meanwhile in the remake Ben gets his head crushed by Mr x through a wall and it barely phases Leon (oh great now I HAVE to do this puzzle to get that keycard…) Not saying 2 remake isn’t scary though 🤷♂️
Resident Evil (2002) and Resident Evil 7 are the only games in the series that are actual PURE horror games in my opinion. Yes, RE2 has some creepy atmospheric parts here and there, and sure, RE3 is super tense with all the Nemesis encounters, but they lack that feeling of dread, and terror. That feeling of being afraid to turn the corner or open that door. That feeling of being afraid of what you might SEE. That feeling of the unknown. Horror in each step. You can make an argument for the original RE1 because if you played that game as a kid in 96, you'd understand. However, it aged horribly and has just become an unintentional comedy at this point. RE4 is an action game with horror elements (same for RE5, RE8, and especially RE6). And a lot of the spin-offs are somewhere in between action and horror. RE0 had some creepy moments, but was also really fucking cheesy a lot of the time. CVX was the game that started all the cheesy anime shit, but it's still a solid game, and was also probably the best looking game when it came out in 00. I'm sure many people will disagree, but that's my take.
I think I would argue that Resident Evil 4 Remake deserves a spot on this list, but no higher than 10th - 8th place. It has a much more serious and grim tone than the goofiness of the original (which is still very good, just not very scary). Yes, Regeneradores are creepy, but the surprise when in the Remake when they sprint at you with a stumbling, lurching gait is awesome. In the original, a Regenerador wasn't terribly threatening because of how slow they walked. Other moments such as Ashley's segment are creepier and better executed. Ashley not being able to kill any of the enemies, being killed herself in a single hit, and the lack of light makes the sequence much more scary. Although all of your points still stand, RE4 and RE4R, while being some of my favorites in the series (RE4R is probably my favorite video game, period) are not the scariest games by any means, and I think even though the Remake at least deserves a spot here, it definitely doesn't hold a candle to games like RE3 and RE7 in terms of pure terror.
I don’t know what it is, but I feel RE 1 had the scariest zombies. In the other games they’re more just obstacles in your way that you have to mow down but in that first game I feel like I just don’t want to go near them sometimes. Something about their look and animation is just unsettling.
Crimson Heads just hit different.. On Hard Mode. It's like you don't wanna kill any zombies, its not worth it , if u don't get a critical head shot with "Chris".
To me it's hard to decide between RE1 remake and RE7 as the scariest in the franchise. With both having great scary moments and atmosphere it can go either way.
Love the respect for Code: Veronica on here, as it's my favorite in the franchise! Also find it funny that I'm not the only one who says 7 is very Evil Dead-esque.
I wish RE7 had a third person mode. I just can’t play FPS games anymore. I used to play Doom, Duke Nukem, Halo 1-3, etc, but now they make me nauseous as I’ve gotten older.
1 was pretty scary. Especially the window jump. The ps1 Nemesis was scary bc you never knew when Nemesis woukd show up..7 was narley...Especially the first 1hr
Ive been seeing a lot of your videos popping up lately. For being a smaller channel, you make your videos really well. Also , re 7 was the scariest for me. I avoided that game for years because of some of the stuff In it. I only started playing it after I saw a play through and was less scared after. Although re 1 dose have the tension if it's your first time playing. And confusion haha. hope they remake it. Also happy New Year
I play Code Veronika. That game was super scary. I played it as a 6 year old and I just couldn't. But at 15 I was like " let's do this". Truly a hidden gem and I still have the disc for my ps2. Saying that, RE 2, both the remake and original are my favorite RE games. And they are my favorite overall. Awesome story, awesome characters, awesome guns, awesome enemies.
was still surprised not to see re4 on this list especially with both colmillos, garradors and regenerators (edit: also the verdugo) being some of the scariest enemies in the franchise. (comillos were scarier in the original)
Yea but Leon is a super soldier with high tech weaponry. None of those monsters stood a chance, which is imo one of the biggest reasons why the game isn’t scary. Also RE4 is the first game in the series that went action>survival
@@BuckChongus leon is not a super soldier but highly trained and literally only comes equipped with a handgun, some ammo and a graplinghook. I sort of see ur point in the island section of the game especially, but the first two portions of the game has some terrifying monsters (e.g. comillos, garradors, verdugo, etc). Even in the island we still have the regenerators.
Perfect list mate, the only thing different for me is re8, I would put it in top 3. But top 2 and 1 it’s exactly the same. The 1st RE remake was so scary and hard, Crimson heads making me run and panic, Lisa’s voice creeping the hell out of me etc.
I remember first encountering a crimson head I didn’t even know at the time there a re remake for GameCube so I missed the ads completely I saw one of the zombies rise up after I shot him I was like what the fuck it was awesome
Watching this an I’m at 3. I have to say, it’s sad RE2R Mr X mimicked OG Nemesis better than RE3make Nemesis did. RE2R X gave me more anxiety than OG Nemsis because he was so terrifying and constant. That being said, I just got to the end. Great vid man.
I think village does quite well, in terms pf the atmosphere it conveys. The enemies all have enough about them to be scary, and that and the areas that the game is played on are enough to keep you on edge while playing. It's not up there with the scariest games, but shouldn't be dismissed as being just a shooter.
First time I played RE Nemesis, it was in black and white. Number 1 for me. I wouldn't say RE CV was that scary, but for the first time, I felt the protagonist might die by the end - Claire. Chris never felt in any danger.
From the games in re I’ve played 7 scared the shot out of me 2 did with mr x and some zombies and lickers 8 didn’t really at all aside from the fan guy and the lady d walking through the door 3 remake that had nemiss his parts were scary and a bit where the one zombie is next to the hydrant wire but beside that nothing so far 4 make hasn’t scared me aside from the opening of the cabin where they all burst through Revelations 1 because I played it for like 5 minutes when I was like 6 and don’t have any memories
@@NerdSpaceGames yeah also it was my first re game and first non mascot horror game and it scared the living shit outta me man I played it on easy because I didn’t want to repeat the scares
Nothing scared me more than Resident evil Raccoon City because I was so scared that my favourite video game franchise won't recover after that piece of garbage.
RE 1 and RE 7 are two games you need to have someone else around while playing it. Even if they are just close enough for to feel a little safer. Nighttime play is a factor.
The only time a Nemesis encounter is not a surprise is in Operation Raccoon City as Umbrella orders the player to regain control over it. That said he is still very intimidating and difficult at times, and the Spec Ops soldiers joining the fight in opposition does not make the fight any easier.
Nothing beat RE7 for me.. I completed the game for 15 days (8 hrs of gameplay) Because the baker house is too much for me.. the atmosphere, color, and the basement with so many molded enemies. Also, I had to play the wrecked ship chapter with spotify blasting chill music just to make me feel better lol
Love seeing other people's opinions. Remake and 7 are definitely more on the horror side. But zero is my favorite to play. Really wish Billy was brought back along with some of those awesome creatures.
I feel like you put RE7 at 2 to be different and you don't actually believe it's not the scariest game. Because there's such a huge gap between 7 and the rest of the games in terms of scare that the real list is just 2-10
Amazing video!, (just a recommendation for a video if your running out of ideas)but do you think you could maybe do a video ranking the resident evil games based on their beauty/graphics/set peices (I know their horror games but maybe if the game brings set peices that bring more feelings of terror you could include that too)
Yeah they seriously dropped the ball on the RE 3 Remake it was forgettable, super short, so much cut content, Nemesis not being used to his full potential, and so on.
3make isn't a bad game as it's really fun to play... but it's a pretty bad remake. I'm still salty that they never added Mercenaries. Not to mention the rest of missing content and changes
RE1 remake #1 probably always will be. RE2 remake if had done like re1 remake maybe could have surpassed. The game we got in re2r was good but could have been so much more.
I agree with the top pick, though I feared it would be RE7. The thing about RE7 that really turns me off is how gimmicky the horror is. Take away jump scares and what do you have? Jack? The guy who shows up like twice to stalk you? The game was obviously built with VR in mind and plays more like a haunted house simulator, taking every opportunity to gross you out or surprise you. It lacks atmosphere and tries to supplement that with cheap tricks but once you realize what the game has up its sleeve, it's no longer scary or tense. That's where RE1R is so great. The tension is organic. The music, the lighting, the weather effects, the enemy groans, the claustrophobic hallways - the mansion feels like an enemy itself. There are so many pieces to the puzzle. The Crimson Heads are a good example - my first playthrough was as a kid and I was scared shitless so I was smoking every zombie I could. I ended up ruining my run because I didn't realize they'd be back with a vengeance. Not only do you need to watch your ammo, you need to be mindful of what you kill because it will come back to make you regret it. RE1R is my #1 with RE2R being a close #2.
Not sure if your looking for video suggestions but a video idea I thought of is “Top 10 Hardest Difficulty Modes in Resident Evil Games” so Infernal Mode from RE3make, Madhouse from RE7, etc.
I just finished outbreak number 7. Oh man, the whole time I was thinking this is hands down the scariest RE game to date. It was so creepy! I think it was mostly due to the first person perspective. I'm about to start village now.
Man, I remember I was always so scared whenever I watched my uncle play resi 1 remake! It's the most perfect horror game ever! My absolute favorite! That game scared the hell out of me! 🙈🙈🙈
For me re7 is not only the scariest game in the series but also the best game in the series. I wasn’t that scared with re1 with just how far away the camera was and with just how much back tracking there was which made each room feel less and less spooky. Re7 on the other hand is pretty much the perfect horror game. The back tracking is kept to a minimum and the puzzles aren’t ever as obtuse are re1s were. Also re7 is just way creepier over all. Sure the zombies were always kinda freaky looking but they weren’t really anything that scary. Now I will say the crimson head were a fantastic addition to the game but still I never find zombies to be that scary. They just feel way too over saturated to be scary. The bakers on the other hand are a whole nother story. They are completely psychotic and their individual personalities make them far more threatening than any re antagonist. The setting is also way more uncomfortable with the gross house that feels like it was once lived in but now rots just as the family is. I also prefer this games lore. The bakers have such a tragic story and the daughter’s dlc really brings it to life showing just how disturbing and nightmarish their story truly is. I could honestly go on and on about re7 but this comment is getting way too long. So I’ll end it off with one last thing. Re7 is without a doubt my all time favorite horror game. It’s terrifying, disturbing, and a whole lot of a fun making it the perfect horror experience.
RE7 was the scariest overall game for me but RE8 had the scariest scene (baby) in all the franchise. I think first person makes the games more atmospheric and immersive. You connect more with the world instead of the character experiencing it.
Resident evil 7 was amazing with terror but I would say the scariest part of all the saga is Beneviento house, everytime I play the baby part is just scary also the dlc on the same house with Rose and the dolls.
They can be quite scary when you car clueless as to what to do. I remember being afraid when I played the original RE1 in 1996. When all the zombies are replaced by Hunters, after defeating Plant 42. I dreaded every room of the mansion lol
It's crazy I'm even into resident evil honestly I do NOT like horror in most contexts (movies, real life) but I've always been a fan of *watching* horror games but never playing them. My first resi game was actually 7 and even though I've only played it once (on the easiest difficulty..) it's definitely what got me into the franchise!! Such a fun game. Damn shame I can't get the dlcs bc I'm locked out of PlayStation network
Scariest resident evil games that I played: 1. RE7 (this game is the greatest) 2. RE2 (tension when getting chased) 3. RE8 (house beneviento was scary) 4. RE4 (many enemies and boss fights) 5. RE3 (not very scary but overall it was good) 6. RE revelations 2 7. RE0 remastered 8. RE6 (pretty much like action game)
I feel like people are hyping up the scariness of the first one because it served as their introduction to the series, or to the genre as a whole, but honestly it wasnt THAT scary. The newer ones (remakes included) are way scarier.
Ngl I think RE1 is the scariest because I know if I die then I have to go through 30 minutes of door cutscenes again because I was greedy and didn't save. The doors are the most horrifying thing in any RE game. RE7 was a pretty funny game. Sure, the atmosphere and random noises could be creepy sometimes, but the moment something happens and I see the way characters behave or talk, all suspense is lost and I start laughing; especially Ethan.
I remember playing Re1 remake and i didn't know about the crimson heads when you first encounter the zombie where you are introduced with the dagger ability i just blocked the place with that table you should use to get the map after running through the game i came back and i was scared as hell to see this crimson head running but can't go through because of the table it looked scary af this is considered one of my best decisions to make and i whenever i remember that i feel smart😂
Ngl, i love Resident Evil games. But they are not actually SCARY more , they are more tense. Tho don't get scared by horror games anymore (i just like playing them) i will still say that Re7 is the only which rly scary. (Tho, even if i am not scared by them anymore i remember recently playing Silent Hill 2 and boi, atmosphere is creepy af, even i was thrilled!)

Nemesis sometimes talks to the player but only ever has 1 thing to say. "STARS..."
RE1 remake is a masterpiece
Good list. I've only played Resident Evil Nemesis. I thought one of the scariest aspects was the distant zombie groans in the streets.
was still surprised not to see re4 on this list especially with both colmillos, garradors and regenerators (edit: also the verdugo) being some of the scariest enemies in the franchise. (comillos were scarier in the original)
I know! Either this guy is blinded by nostalgia, or he’s trying to play it safe to please as many people as possible.
@@a.g8969Eh idk, I don't think RE4 has the scariest enemies or moments in the series. Neither the original or remake
Solid list but you can’t say the regenerators don’t terrify you every time
I agree with that list. That being said, the first time I was messing around and shooting into the lake in RE4 scared the hell out of me haha
The DLC for village is scarier than the actual game.
First time I played RE Nemesis, it was in black and white. Number 1 for me.
I wouldn't say RE CV was that scary, but for the first time, I felt the protagonist might die by the end - Claire. Chris never felt in any danger.
I would only switch 2 and 1. Pretty awesome list!
From the games in re I’ve played 7 scared the shot out of me
2 did with mr x and some zombies and lickers
8 didn’t really at all aside from the fan guy and the lady d walking through the door
3 remake that had nemiss his parts were scary and a bit where the one zombie is next to the hydrant wire but beside that nothing so far
4 make hasn’t scared me aside from the opening of the cabin where they all burst through
Revelations 1 because I played it for like 5 minutes when I was like 6 and don’t have any memories
Yeah I can see why people might put re7 as their number one, especially if they consider VR
The hunters in the Original RE (1996 version) scared me, with the cutscene with them running towards the mansion
RE 1 and RE 7 are two games you need to have someone else around while playing it. Even if they are just close enough for to feel a little safer. Nighttime play is a factor.
I find Revelations 2 and Re Zero creepier than Re 1 Remake.
Good picks for this list, especially number one.
Very solid list and I completely agree w you on RE4
Thanks!
RE7 is the scariest RE game, and it's in the top 3 best RE games imo
The only time a Nemesis encounter is not a surprise is in Operation Raccoon City as Umbrella orders the player to regain control over it. That said he is still very intimidating and difficult at times, and the Spec Ops soldiers joining the fight in opposition does not make the fight any easier.
What!? Seriously no resident evil 4 on this video?!
Nothing beat RE7 for me.. I completed the game for 15 days (8 hrs of gameplay) Because the baker house is too much for me.. the atmosphere, color, and the basement with so many molded enemies. Also, I had to play the wrecked ship chapter with spotify blasting chill music just to make me feel better lol
great video, keep it up
Appreciate this list much fresher then other channels
Thanks man means a lot!
Love seeing other people's opinions. Remake and 7 are definitely more on the horror side. But zero is my favorite to play. Really wish Billy was brought back along with some of those awesome creatures.
Resident Evil 7 in VR is hands down the scariest Resident Evil game period.
There is a re2 vr mod and it’s terrifying
RE7 is definitely the creepiest RE game in my opinion. I was always on edge when playing through it the first time. Especially in the basement parts.
I feel like you put RE7 at 2 to be different and you don't actually believe it's not the scariest game. Because there's such a huge gap between 7 and the rest of the games in terms of scare that the real list is just 2-10
Amazing video!, (just a recommendation for a video if your running out of ideas)but do you think you could maybe do a video ranking the resident evil games based on their beauty/graphics/set peices (I know their horror games but maybe if the game brings set peices that bring more feelings of terror you could include that too)
That’s a good idea! I think I did something similar to that with my rankings of iconic locations in RE
I love how when he brings up RE2, he talks about both the original and the remake, but for 3 he doesn’t even mention the remake 😭
RE3R was so bad that it didn't get into the top 10:))
RE7 is my favorite game in the series
Very happy not to see Resi 4 on this list. I’ve tried so many times to like that game and I just can’t
I don’t hate that game. I actually like it. But there’s no denying that it’s not a scary game
Thank you for not including RE4, for every count I was saying please do not do it 😂
Way creepier than 7 or 8.
I agree with your number 1 pick. I personally think it's both the scariest and the best game in the series.
Currently watching this waiting to get railed by hurricane Milton.
The atmosphere of resident evil dead aim is very scary tho
Can anyone name the theme after the intro 0:15??? Thx
I found it guys my bad re 2 save room
Yeah... I'm honest here and I just don't have the guts to play REmake.
That house is the reason I have never re- played RE8 and the DLC 😰 no way I want to experience the horror again
Yep that part sucks and the worst is that you can not use any type or gun, is you running all the time just to get out of that house.
I never considered Resident Evil games as scary. They are more of action-horror experience.
Most are! I would argue that the classics are scarier where as the newer games lean more towards action horror
They can be quite scary when you car clueless as to what to do. I remember being afraid when I played the original RE1 in 1996. When all the zombies are replaced by Hunters, after defeating Plant 42. I dreaded every room of the mansion lol
RE4, 5, 6 & 8 are action horror. the rest is survival horror
@@bepohalfacta
I fully approve of this list
Code Veronica offers 1st person only in Battle Game mode.
Excellent video many thanks
It's crazy I'm even into resident evil honestly
I do NOT like horror in most contexts (movies, real life) but I've always been a fan of *watching* horror games but never playing them.
My first resi game was actually 7 and even though I've only played it once (on the easiest difficulty..) it's definitely what got me into the franchise!! Such a fun game. Damn shame I can't get the dlcs bc I'm locked out of PlayStation network
Leon was surrounded by Regenerators in that RE4make clip, why only two attacks?
Thought the Resident Evil Remake would place first. Actually a remake that adds a lot and doesn't take anything away.
I would say 7 is for me the scariest
Love resident evil 3 and nemesis chasing u
Scariest resident evil games that I played:
1. RE7 (this game is the greatest)
2. RE2 (tension when getting chased)
3. RE8 (house beneviento was scary)
4. RE4 (many enemies and boss fights)
5. RE3 (not very scary but overall it was good)
6. RE revelations 2
7. RE0 remastered
8. RE6 (pretty much like action game)
I feel like people are hyping up the scariness of the first one because it served as their introduction to the series, or to the genre as a whole, but honestly it wasnt THAT scary. The newer ones (remakes included) are way scarier.
For me Resi 2 is the most intimidating. Outlast 2 levels of terrifying to me tbh.
This list is bogus. We all know RE5 is the scariest game in the series! All that sunshine can give ya cancer!
I wish I can play these games fresh again.
I love both Resident Evil 2 and the remake,I think they took out too much.
SH is not scary at all tho it's tense
@@bepohalDunno bro, Sh is scary, shivering ngl
@@bepohalthen none horror game is scary lol
@@FIREDAN075 not really. RE7 is
I think 7 definitely belongs in the first spot.
