This is an awesome video. 🔥👏 It answers so many questions, the comparisons and how to’s are so helpful and the footage of the panel is really nice too. Thank-you for linking to our video. I knew we should have included a dog in ours! Dope! Next time.

got it last week. I will say 2 things I dont like. one, I wish the top knob labels were backlit, and number 2 - as you mentioned, I was actually quite surprised that the ipad version didnt work properly, which I never heard mentioned. they made the thing with a slot for the iPad yet it doesnt work yet. personally I think they shouldve held out until it did, or at least make it VERY Clear it was still in the works. . I spent an hour trying to figure out WHY it wasnt working until someone on a forum mentioned it.
Lastly my bluetooth ALWAYS needs to be "forgotten" and set back up. never reconnects. Tip time: Hold the two shift buttons down and rotate the top left knob (Y lift)to adjust the backlight strength (found out by accident). also both shift keys and "offset" gets you to log. Thanks for the review, as always top notch. have a great Sunday my friend.

Yeaaah! I think it's purely because they aren't allowed to publish 'beta' softare on the app store (I may have also read that on the forum!). But yeah I agree, it should be made nice and clear.
Oh that's interesting. Mine got confused when jumping around devices but was okay when reconnecting to the same device. I figured my issues where because I was trying to jump between 3 devices in a short period of time purely for the filming of this video.
Oh great tip on the backlighting too!

This micro panel is soooooo much better than the old one and has features that give us a glimpse of the future with Blackmagic panels - the shift up/shift down effectively gives us three times the functionality without more buttons or knobs. I have to give it three 👍👍👍

@@MrAlexTech Nice, thought I was the only one 😂 Was having lots of issues with 19 on Mac OS, installed latest, no more issues. 19 hates Ventura FYI, and since my shinny new color panel only works with 19, I was a bit annoyed. Also, have you noticed the speed editor powers on automatically without engagement on 19?

"Auto Color" button needs to become a programmable button. (or, at least) I would like it to become "Auto Label the selected node to it's first listed function".
BTW, with Speed Editor Blue Tooth connection issues while Davinci Resolve is already running, I have found that holding down the "cut" & "smooth cut" buttons for about two seconds will often solve the issue and/or a quick connect/disconnect of the USB cable will solve connection (most of the time) vs restarting Davinci Resolve (which can really mess up my workflow).
I have used a sharpie on the Speed Editor to label below the "cut" & "smooth cut" buttons a reminder that a two second hold will "reset" the Speed Editor, because it is easy to forget which secret key combos do what.

Background: I'm a video editor but I'm getting into color so I've only been using davinci for the last couple of months and color grading for a few weeks.
That being said, I'm pretty happy overall with it. I've had mine for about a week and I really, really like it. It's small but really powerful and well built, and it has MOST of the features that the big boys have. It's intuitive and easy to learn. Working with wheels is just miles faster and better than using a mouse and keyboard. I think the idea is to have DITs and colorists be on set to actually see the design live. This can easily fit in a bag. There IS a learning curve, and the instruction manual is pretty useless...they need to just put out a keyboard map on one page showing what every key does...but it's been pretty easy to figure out what's what just by guessing.
Excited to fully learn it and get my muscle memory under my fingers and really up my color game.

This makes me think: I love the feel of real sliders and buttons when making music...because it makes me start to use my "ears" rather than staring at levels and settings and such. I wonder if it's the same for a color panel, you start to use your "eyes" more - rather than stare at the scopes and values. 😁 I'm going to have to try this one out!

It’s not merely “designed primarily for DaVinci” it’s EXCLUSIVELY for DaVinci. I’d be more likely to buy this if Blackmagic opened up the device so that drivers could be written to use this as an input device in other applications like photo editing or something else (music production?). If the amount I deal with video declines or if something better than DaVinci comes along (difficult to imagine but possible) I don’t want this to become more e-waste.

    • @MrAlexTech
      @MrAlexTech  10 днів тому

I don't believe I said primarily, I said specifically, as yeah it is only for Resolve. I'm in two minds, I can understand their stance. If someone makes a crappy app driver so it works in another software, but it's poop. People think the panel is poop, and that makes Blackmagic look bad. They can't possibly make the drivers themselves so it has to go out of their network, and out of their control. By keeping it within their network, they keep control and importantly quality control. Which goes a long way to uphold their image. Plus Resolve is only free as they've built a solid ecosystem of paid products around it, you start opening that up and you could potentially devalue it.
On the flip side... Yeah it'd be super handy to use it elsewhere 😄

It would be really nice if resolve would open this up to other programs. Same too for their speed edit controllers. Now I understand that many hardware company and they want you to buy the hardware but it could be linked to a DaVinci resolve Studio account. Maybe there's a driver software kind of like the razor driver software that you have to log into first to prove that you have a Studio Pro account and then you can alter the keys to your liking for another program.
