We actually had the creator of Artgrapf come to or store to demonstrate his product. Aproach this as purposeful playing in a rather abstract way. Roll the graphiteputty into a ball and touch it into water, then roll it around on the paper. Neat textures. Play with it.
Me… Never sketched, or painted anything in my life… watching the video and taking mental notes on which one I should use. So weird. But I love Jono’s art, have bought a print and am happy to just be a fan.❤️
The putty is more of a print making thing,so Perhaps if u wanted to integrate a stencil piece for the background of your work or something, but u can also turn it in to paint if u just tear a piece off and add water.🖤
Soft, malleable graphite modelling clay to create your own drawing tool and create a variety of colour tones and contrasts. It can be kneaded and moulded into any shape, giving you more control over the stroke.
When I first saw you creating your art, I thought you were already using water soluble graphite because your backgrounds were so dark and smooth and you used water. I love water soluble graphite for that reason. You can cover a large area and get it dark without the shine that graphite can have from a pencil coverage
I use that graphite paste as a large ball (larger as a tennis ball) and roll or slide it over the paper. Yes your hands become totally black and shiny which is awesome and can be further used too produce lighter shades on the paper. Then in a second stage I use water with brush as well as pens etc. Its awesome. I love it. Of course my artwork is realistic like yours:)
I draw and paint with oil, so I’m definitely intrigued by the water soluble powdered graphite. It could be used to add some abstraction under glazes or soft ethereal effects. That putty just seems odd to me, but someone can and will do amazing work with it.
The putty is also water soluble and gets much darker in value. I love using it as one big ball to cover large area, or roll on random textures or creat big, bold strokes. It’s great used on damp paper. The powder graphite erases really well, until you wet it.
I think when you activate water soluble graphite with water you probably have to use similar techniques as in traditional watercolor; working from light to dark, preserving highlights etc.
try adding a few drops of baby oil to a small jar lid with graphite powder mix and apply with a brush or blending stump to get those really dark areas, but is hard to erase
This is a great review ! There are a few videos here on You Tube about these products as well . I haven't tried them yet but I'm sure you'd do well with any of the products you decide to use . We all search for something to make our art an easier task but it looks to me that you're already doing an amazing job with what you already have . Thank you for the information as well as the inspiration !🌠
The graphite putty is kind of an interesting one, I used it wet and it gave me a lot of texture but it is very fragile and cracks. I enjoyed just taking out the entire lump in my hand and using it to get a very raw expressive result :) it is intended to be "sharpened" like you thought too, but it's not exactly pencil accuracy, that's for sure!
ua-cam.com/video/Fv3eRI3PjFw/v-deo.html Here is a link to a video from the manufacturer of the putty. It can be used to create amazing organic patterns and can make markes that are very challenging to do with a pencil. Is more of a moldable stamp. P.S I use a rubber medical glove while I'm using it. I also impress it on on items like rocks or driftwood, large feathers, squeeze it with my hand...ect Then i use it like a stamp to transfer the embossed texture to the paper. Usually over a light value i put down with pencil.
I mentioned this to Jono & shared this link a while back. Glad he finally tried it. I use it get a large area covered quickly with the putty on wet paper. Thnx for sharing the video 🇺🇲❤🏴
You are an absolutely incredible artist, I could only hope to be a little better in my art endeavors watching your videos! What an inspiration!! Ty! ❤🙏✌️🎨🖌🎭
I think for the pate you might use a pan pastel brush or a makeup brush as a tool. Pressing the pate into a pan and pressing a makeup sponge brush into it maybe?
I like water soluble graphite, however, i get the pencils not powder. That way I can layer after I have let the first layer dry. It does require a lot of patience and waiting.
The putty should also be water soluble. Here are a few ways i've used it: 1) Wetting the surface of the medium, and dragging the putty over to give a very dark fill. This is good for quickly blocking in large sections of your work with a solid shade. 2) Using it as a sort of malleable stamp to apply randomized patterns of texture, good for creating uneven non-repeating patterns And you're right, the putty is a huge mess, wear gloves :) Like you say, just play around until you find an interesting approach that will work for you
Just curious: isn't graphite sort of water-soluble already? I've drawn shaded areas with a regular pencil, and used a VERY lightly damp brush to manipulate it... when done correctly, it makes for a flawless, completely matte finish.
I don't know if you have solved this problem yet, but I bet you can lift that water soluble graphite powder in this way. Treat it like water colour paint. That is let the area dry completely, then use a fine, stiff (but not too stiff) brush, not too much water. With watercolour I'd choose a sable brush because of the density of the fiber and the control of line and amount of water you get with it. Graphite might ruin sable though, I don't know. If graphite does indeed behave like watercolours, where you wet and dab or stroke, the colour will lift. Dab with a clean cloth like a very absorbant paper towel frequently, or the white of the paper underneath will get contaminated with colour. Graphite is so powerful it might anyway. It won't get back to pure white, but you should be able to get some mid-tone highlights. The second part is that, as great as she is, Arches is not the best paper for this type of removal process. Fabriano artistico has a more durable surface when wet than Arches. The surface of Arches will roll and disappear first, if you put the 2 of them to the wet and rub with a stiff brush test. However, I can only speak with assurance of this with regard to the cold press and not the hot press. If you find out otherwise for the hot press I'd love to know! Wonderful review. Absolutely love your work!
It's portuguese! I have those products. They work really well. But the pasta one will dry if you're not careful. I was wondering why you weren't using them! Have fun!
The only water soluble graphite I like and use, are the Faber Castell Graphite Aquarelle! They took the throne from my Pitt Graphite Matt, who had taken the throne, from the 9000. SO for me, it's not just the best water soluble pencil, but also my all time favorite graphite pencil! As for pencils in general, my favorite, is the Red Chalk from Koh-I-Noor , in it;'s 5.6mm version, that they call "Russet Sepia" for some reason. ( I use the 5340 for those and the 5347 lead holder, for their Dark Sepia 5.6mm leads, that are my 2nd favorite sketching pencil). Art Graf is ok, just not for me.
Could you please tell me if you seal your work when you’ve finished.........so that it doesn’t need to go under glass..... I don’t like the reflection on glass. 🥰🥰🥰
Hey dude, do you have a ratio of ground graphite to linseed oil? I tend to just use it dry, as i dont know what mix to use and also think its probably quite a commitment? As Im guessing you can't erase your linseed mix areas? 🤔
@@baldwinleatherworks I have got to get me some of that. I've also been watching some ridiculous vids about "overly engineered mechanical pencils"......laughing at how impractical, enjoying some of the cool features...and knowing darn well that I'll probably order at least one, just for fun...
Did I comment on that or am I just remembering telling my kids about those? I'm with you! I saw those vids and knew I'd have to watch them again to decide which would be right for me.
The powder would be fine for Black and White ink/watercolour work, because you can't erase tones in watercolour or ink washes either... It's horses for courses.

😮 Jono I am with you. The old style of shaving the piece of compressed general charcoal is the best way to get the correct result 🙌

Very likely, unless it’s used and an underpainting with acrylic or oil.

Portuguese product from my hometown near my house 😃 there are a lot innovative products from them.
The putty is used (I think) for larger areas, and its water soluble.. I would put a piece in a pallette, and use a water color brush.. have fun...
Oooh thanks Jono, cool products, just googled them for more inspo 🥰🥰🥰🥰

With powders try the PanPastel Sofft Tool. Ya, it's spelled like that. Much easier to paint on.
Allen Williams has a unique technique with water soluble graphite powder and clay board.
Love that you reviewed these! So interesting

You can use water on the putty for darker tones I think
Artgraf's materials are designed with an emphasis on play and experimentation - getting your hands dirty is part of the fun.
Looks like a great product ❤
Was interesting watching a master experiment with this like a child’s curiosity 🎉
It would have been more effective for dark backgrounds if it was a bit darker
That graphite putty will dry out and if you store it in a jar it will mold FYI
would you mind shedding light on your paper choice? and how you go about display? are you adding mattes or just framing?
You are my one of my inspiration 💛 ✍
That was super cool, the putty looks like there is probably be more fun than useful. But that in itself might be useful

Once i used coal and the result was pretty amazing have you tried ever??
Excellent, & sincere review.❤
Very nice art and background Graphite properties is very interesting!
Love your art works
I also try to draw using graphite...
If you combine graphite putty and kneadable eraser, will they cancel each other out and disappear?

very cool review,, can u recommend best paper for powder graphite?
For asecond I saw your thumbnail and I was like “pewdiepie?!!!” XD

Try seeing if the powder can be erased without using water.
how much time do you spend on the hair saloon on a daily basis?
Amazing work 👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏
Halo master Jono, where can i find the 9B graphite sticks? Im struggling to find anything darker than 2B
Hey dude, do you have a ratio of ground graphite to linseed oil? I tend to just use it dry, as i dont know what mix to use and also think its probably quite a commitment? As Im guessing you can't erase your linseed mix areas? 🤔
You are amazing ❤
Wow So Beautiful presentation, Wishing you more and more Successes, greetings and Blessings, Liked and Subscribed 💜💐🌹
Why do you damp the sheet before you
start your art work?🤔
Have you tried Faber Castells Matte graphites? I am excited to see they have a 14 B!😊
My knees just buckled...14???? I'm swooning....🖤🖤🖤
@@realityjunky yup, a 14B and it’s matte.
@@baldwinleatherworks It is amazing. I tried ithe pencil in the shop before I ended up buying it here in Germany.

You're so good 👍🏻
Nice video ❤
I saw that putty at the store and didn’t know how to use it either
Not being able to erase it is a deal breaker for me too. It's so fundamental
It erases really well if you don’t wet it.
1st like from india 💙❤️
I use the graphite powder with water when I want an organic spotty effect
I hope I can get as much views as you one day... thank you for sharing your knowledge bro.
Lmao im not gonna ask about the thumbnail but big fan sir ! 😄👍
The putty is water soluble.
💛
I am your big fans I am from India
The powder would be fine for Black and White ink/watercolour work, because you can't erase tones in watercolour or ink washes either... It's horses for courses.
I thought you were Felix
The putty is supposed to be activated with water! Use it with a brush next time :)!
I think it’s water soluble.
Why not try bright color?
I think is a good choice
Hahahaha
Watching from Thailand

For the paste, take a picture of the instructions and have google translate . Looks interesting
Thumbnail looks like pewdiepie
I prefer my fingers! Apply SFUMATO! I invented it! Our senses are sufficient brother ☺🌟 .
Saw the thumbnail, i thought it was blonde hair Pewds for a second.

Pewdiep....Wait...how tf
I thought you was pewdiepie for a second
That putty is a product no one asked for...
I am very confused as to why it was even thought of as a concept. Seems so impractical.
Dude! Stop bleaching ur hair out! Just stop it!
Your Thumbnail made me think you were Pewdiepie for a min 💀😂
