It's better and beneficial for foreigners to start by learning traditional Chinese at the beginning because the present characters in TS have been widely used and greatly evolved for at least 2000 years, but simplified Chinese only has a very short history. Not only can you better learn more original characters, but also deeply understand the initial creation meaning of each of them . Yet, in SC, most of the characters lose their original meaning and you are hardly to guess the characters by directly imagining the shape or appearance of that stuff. As a result, you may feel exhausted in learning Chinese through SC. So , I supporting learning TS in spite of its more complicated formation. Great way to start off! Very helpful! Note that as you get to harder words, this does not apply as much and some are a stretch. While some characters are like this, they are in the minority! :) By the way, if you are curious, more traditional characters look like what they represent than simplified. So take that into account when deciding which to learn Ex: turtle Traditional : 龜 Simplified : 龟 This is great though and is a great starting point!
ra saket Japanese pronounces "chinese characters" (aka Kanji) differently to Chinese. In the most basic terms, written japanese uses a combination of these Kanji AND two variants of alphabet - Hiragana, being the native alphabet, and Katakana, being a "translation" alphabet used for foreign words. I would highly suggest trying to find Japanese courses online. :D
I believe the purpose is to allow communication. Speaking a language is not as helpful as speaking the language. If you were traveling being able to read street signs. She also said a lot of the language is contextual meaning that the way things are presented and understanding of culture is required to be able to communicate clearly. So she has given a basic starting place of how the language is structured. I have the distinct impression that without the context of how the characters are superimposed the ability to learn spoken Mandarin would be near impossible because the context of a characters use alters how the words are pronounced. So were learning the context.
That material is not enough whatsoever. Learning a language is not only about learning words individually, it encompasses a myriad of things. This is an oustanding way to learn but for children, what about adults? It may introduce you a 2 percent of the language, is it what you really want to?
me: 'not being able to remember characters for tree, person, fire etc' Chinese is hard *sees 王* me: OMG that's Wang, see I know every Chinese character, haha
Everybody gangsta until you learn that: 糖 means "sugar" 赢 means "To win" 蔬菜 means "vegetables" 警察 means "police officer" Pretty easy to write them, ngl ;)
First fu can mean MANY different things like 妇 means woman, this fu 付 means pay. Not just one single meaning, depends on the tone and sometimes two different words will have the same tone so you have to understand them in context.
Well, i really fancy chinese custome. I watch chinese movies, shows. I listen Chinese music. I read Chinese novel. It will be so weird if i don't study chinese for better experience

Some of the pinyin is incorrect. Like pig should be zhu. Also, pay attention to intonation accuracy, like ask should be wen4, pig should be zhu1, prince should be wang2 zi3.
Stephanie Luu Why did they change pinyin? The old spelling was so much easier for English speakers. It's not difficult to remember how to pronounce "Zh" and "q"
Well, it sure ain´t easy to learn the writing system. Learning to speak the basics is not that hard though. Speaking well is, as in all languages, a difficult feat to achieve as a non-native.
I like it that you have shown how Chinese culture has changed throughout the years and that you have the capacity to explain all these characters to us. Thanks!!!

By the way, if you are curious, more traditional characters look like what they represent than simplified. So take that into account when deciding which to learn
Ex: turtle
Traditional : 龜
Simplified : 龟
This is great though and is a great starting point!
CantoMando se?
Tge traditional one is quite creepy
May I ask? Are fish and turtle have the same simplified character?
Hablo español y estoy viendo un video en ingles para aprender chino....
Jaja igual yo

What about the Chinese pronunciation?
This is only teaching written Mandarin...
I like it very much thank you. You explain the chinese in a easy way. I want to learn more. Can you tell us japanese? Very-very thank you.
ra saket
Japanese pronounces "chinese characters" (aka Kanji) differently to Chinese.
Loco Garner Mandarin and Cantonese and Wu and Shanghai written the same
You deserve a Nobel
Hell yes, she does!
Woah, I agree that whoever made this video is great, but a Nobel is too much isn't it?
Seriously, she does. Do they have knighting in China? She should be knighted.
Mauricio Bautista Chinese people learn Chinese in this way in the video
That material is not enough whatsoever. Learning a language is not only about learning words individually, it encompasses a myriad of things. This is an oustanding way to learn but for children, what about adults? It may introduce you a 2 percent of the language, is it what you really want to?
me: 'not being able to remember characters for tree, person, fire etc' Chinese is hard
*sees 王*
me: OMG that's Wang, see I know every Chinese character, haha
Everybody gangsta until you learn that:
糖 means "sugar"
赢 means "To win"
蔬菜 means "vegetables"
警察 means "police officer"
Pretty easy to write them, ngl ;)
Jhxjhxhshxhs yea hshusdhsudhsd
王,the face of tiger
I don’t even know the character for my own Chinese last name. 😶
@@carloslolxd2594 wait do you can say 菜 instead of 输菜 ?
Imagine what it looked like before the editing
And without music
I love this ,thank you so much for sharing. You’re amazing
Thank you, Yuba!

I just wish that you would tell us the pronunciation of the chinese words. I really appreciate the characters, but I want the pronunciation.
Jason Thornt
They're teaching Chinese, not mandarin.
well uh person is ren
tai is too much
man is fu
First fu can mean MANY different things like 妇 means woman, this fu 付 means pay. Not just one single meaning, depends on the tone and sometimes two different words will have the same tone so you have to understand them in context.
not MANY more like 5
but yeah i know its just really easy to forget what tone it is
I never thought chinese could be so well explained! Congrats!!

This is TOTALLY wonderful. I love the way the culture is explained along the way, and the presenter (and video) is great fun to watch.
***** Yep. Nice video. For the time it lasts. Then reality sinks in.
+nominal6 it does not stink
Ha ha. I wrote "reality SINKS in". This is a common English expression. Today I also added: "looks like Spanish customers are targeted."
Well, i really fancy chinese custome. I watch chinese movies, shows. I listen Chinese music. I read Chinese novel. It will be so weird if i don't study chinese for better experience
really ?Where you come from
Wow! This is fantastic! I never thought that learning chinese is so much fun!
It’s ok, but this is only for a start.
Yep chinese is fun to learn. If u are using traditional chinese, the words are like drawings.
When you actually study Chinese in school it's hell
Excellent, easy and a good start to learn the characters of Chinese...thanks !...One wants to learn more using your style of teaching. 👏👍😉
That's so awesome to hear! Thank you! :)

but the thing is i cant caught up its hard to talk to native chinese lmao the way i translate things is way different youtube didnt teach informal language of chinese of how people sound like a native speaker like them im too formal when im speaking with my friends
Some of the pinyin is incorrect. Like pig should be zhu. Also, pay attention to intonation accuracy, like ask should be wen4, pig should be zhu1, prince should be wang2 zi3.
Chinese doesn't have âêîôû, but ǎěǐǒǔ
Also the pinyin for 日 is rì not rí, and 月 is yuè not yué
ming2 tian1 is tomorrow, they just simplified it
The problem is the ping yin....This is a really good way to learn how to know the meaning but the pinyin is important too.
Stephanie Luu
Why did they change pinyin? The old spelling was so much easier for English speakers. It's not difficult to remember how to pronounce "Zh" and "q"
I meant it IS difficult.
The symbol for “wife” had me laughing so much, I had to pause the vid!!!! You are brilliant by the way! The most clever learning tool I’ve ever seen.
just like in spanish u have handcuff = wife
Mehhh I'm Chinese... AND GOSH Chinese seems difficult after I watched this...
Green Apple :v mi no saber
Green Apple why do you say that?
Well, it sure ain´t easy to learn the writing system. Learning to speak the basics is not that hard though. Speaking well is, as in all languages, a difficult feat to achieve as a non-native.
can only laugh after reading ur comment
Green Apple Ikr. But the hard thing is that many words have many meanings.
I like it that you have shown how Chinese culture has changed throughout the years and that you have the capacity to explain all these characters to us. Thanks!!!
It seems easy only for the first characters.
The majority are more abstract and complexe.
That's true :(
Most of them are composed with the ones she just showed. Just like 日 月 明,火 烧 烤...
@@陈亦之-w8n yup those are called radicals
Yes, this video is a good start for ppl who never had contact with chinese, but after that we learn that chinese is hard af lol
Because it is explained with modern interest, it is naturally not coherent and logical.
If you are interested in the evolution of Chinese, you should browse this video. It uses textual research based on the evolution of different periods to demonstrate, this is the correct study.

it would be helpful if u put pinyin under the English words thx, but of course its a very interesting video thx for sharing 👍👍👍
You're welcome!
I think this is just meant to accompany the Chineasy book where they have the pinyin.
I don't know if it's just me, but this looks futuristic. More characters make more sense to me now, so thank you 😁😁
You're welcome. Glad you enjoy the lesson. :)
"The symbol of fire looks like"
"Fire!!"
"A person on fire"

This is traditional Chinese, not simplified Chinese
I know.
She mostly teaches Traditional Chinese.
In her books, she teaches you both versions at the same time.
Not, this is simplified Chinese
Some are traditional some are simplified like the door for simplified is 门
Shame she only gave the Chinese pronunciation for only a few words.
Wow😯🤔😍😍😍You made it look so simple. I actually learned a lot from this. Xiexie ni🤗

Fantastic job!... I couldn't read a single Chinese word, 10 minutes ago, and now, I can already read +/- 25 basic words...
