The movie works well because Elle was legit smart and accomplished. Almost perfect LSAT, 4.0, sorority president, and expertise in an area that a lot of lawsuits happen (fashion)- she’s also rich-it’s not shocking or surprising she got in at all.
@32:47 It’s absolutely not about being a sellout. He’s in a position of power, and she knows she will likely lose her internship for rejecting his advances. People don’t agree to being sexually harassed or r*ped because they’re “sellouts.” People hold power over them and either force them to submit or convince them they should because of what they’ll take away if they don’t. The amount of times I’ve been sexually harassed at work and had to ask if reporting it was worth losing my job is higher than one. It should be zero.
Clearly used the wrong term but most people knew I was attempting to be encouraging towards women. Was saying don’t feed into that regardless of the situation I understand situations like that and of course the guy is in the wrong. @@mrflickswatches Calling her distressed reaction to the harrassment a little thing is not encouraging. It's minimizing. It's easy to feel defensive when people take issue with something you said but maybe reflect on this a little more

what i love about this is that elle never changed who she was deep down. sure she might've changed how she dressed a bit to fit in more but she never lost her positive attitude. not to mention i actually clapped when she showed up in court wearing pink lol
Being "waitlisted" means you're put on a literal list and, if there's an opening in admissions (usually a student they accepted decides to go elsewhere), you are taken off the waitlist and accepted into the college.
28:20 because women and girls are used to people depending on them for emotional needs and going unthanked for it. It’s nice to imagine someone who doesn’t need you and seeing them do whatever they want because they don’t rely on your hard work to do it. The girl doesn’t have to make the relationship mean something if she knows she doesn’t mean anything to him. Plus it’s nice to feel like you could do the same and not care, after your life has centered around caring for everyone for so long. It never works but it’s nice to think about lol (Warning: You May Disagree)
I think girls liking "bad boys" has to do with a mix of immaturity and possibly low self-esteem. We accept the love we think we deserve, so if a girl accepts a guy who doesn't treat her well, it's usually because she thinks that's all she deserves and not because she actually likes it. As for the immaturity, it's usually young girls in high school or just after, so at that time we often don't have as much life experience. When I got older, I thought back on the guys I used to like and realized they were losers, and idk what I was thinking at the time lmao.
there's also the special bias. If a guy has cheated on his last few partners, but doesn't cheat on you, you're the "special one" who "made him change his ways" which is complete bs, but taught to young girls very often. The amount of romance films with a bad boy stereotype who "gets fixed by the right girl" is astounding
I saw someone else say something similar, but it’s not “selling out” - a lot of the time harassment at the workplace by a boss/higher up comes to a crazy and unfair decision of “well now i have to do this and just keep my job i worked hard to get OR lose it all bc they will destroy me if i don’t” also as got your “bad boys” question, i personally in my whole life only knew one girl who liked the “bad boys” and that was out of like …low end comparing her to 200+ women. i think it’s a movie thing. Most of the time girls just like who they like. that’s why it’s also a trope where a girl likes a guy and people are just confused like “what does she see in him?”
just one quick thought, being a sellout has nothing to do with sexual harrassment. Know its hard coming from the male perspective but we sometimes forget that women have to navigate with a whole different set of rules in order to thrive. Some men aint shit and are taking advantage of that.
Depression hits everyone different. Some people eat for comfort. Some people lose their appetite. I usually lose my appetite, but sometimes I'll eat a whole bag of chips alone
I love how most people always get confused by the snap part, the snap is to push your chest up and draw attention to it. The bend and snap is the draw attention to their assets.
I always think of that actress as being "Ursula's mom" from George of the Jungle.... I'm not sure what that says about me except I watched that movie a lot when I was a kid...
The first professor is played by Holland Taylor. She’s fantastic. Played in Two and a Half Men, The L Word, has a great stage background, and has been in several things as of late. She has played in the series Hollywood, The Chair, andThe morning show more recently. She’s also the partner of Sarah Paulson.
13:04 lmao also, as a lawyer myself, I can’t stress enough how impressive a 179 LSAT is… especially on your first try. it’s crazy. the funny irony of this all is that warner acts surprised elle got in, but she was directly admitted while warren was waitlisted. she belonged there more than him.
Genuinely need more people to understand that the idea of women as a whole liking "bad boys" is a myth. In most cases the guys start off perfectly nice and charming, and the aloof "i don't care" attitude comes later, after the relationship is already well established, and they don't feel the need to put effort in any more because they've already gotten what they want. And a lot of the women that stay do so because they know that their partner *can* be nice, when he wants to be. And why wouldn't he want to be? He was nice before, right? He loved her before, right?? So that means something else must be causing him to act differently now. Something they believe they can fix, to get their man back to his best self, the version of himself that he put out first. And a lot of these types of men will give just enough affection to make their partners think everything is okay again, and the whole thing starts over. In most cases where a woman ends up with a stereotypical "bad boy" she's wrapped up in a cycle of manipulation and neglect. And that's leaving aside things like past trauma, self esteem issues, scenarios where their current partner may be abusive, etc.
Your take on this is killing me. 😂 As a young woman in 2001, I can promise you that your willingness to tolerate sexual advanses with a smile were a nesseccity to stay on good terms with your boss. And men above a certain income called the shots. If you called them out, they got promoted and you were blacklisted. It sucked.
In terms of break ups- I feel like it’s one or the other: either you binge eat or lose your appetite. Also-the brunette friend was in “Waiting…”, “Sister Act 2” and was the voice of Mama Imelda in Coco: an AMAZING voice artist!!
There are lots of reasons for the bad boy thing, really depends on the person but tbh the "I don't care" comes off as confidence a lot of the time and confidence is super attractive. Now if they're bad in the sense that they're TREATING you (their partner) bad than still liking them is usually a self esteem issue unfortunately. Liking bad boys from a distance and wanting to be with one is a line that gets crossed when people realize they're worth more than that...some people don't cross it at all :(
28:24 women don't necessarily like "bad boys" but the part about women liking men being like "I don't need you" it makes them seem way less desperate. at least that's what I think. but that scene is very inaccurate to how women are.
There are a few women who like "bad boys", but the vast majority don't. I don't know where men got this idea. I think it has a lot to do with not being picked, and seeing themselves as "the good guy", so the other guys must be bad. A very black and white view on life.
I liked this video, I just wanted to say that I think you underestimate the power dynamics of her professor hitting on her. It would just be he said she said and even now a lot of people would believe him and her life could be destroyed. The power dynamics are also why it’s not selling out, it’s being taken advantage of.
28:32 if you ask my therapist, women like bad boys because they’ve had an earlier trauma. Essentially, if you had a parent that ignored you, didn’t seem to empathize with you, etc., you would more likely pursue that in your romantic relationships because it feels familiar and because you’re subconsciously trying to re-create that situation with a better outcome.

"Bedazzled" movie from 2000
will answer that
The bad boy thing is rooted to daddy issues, and as far as straight men knowing designer brands is more common than one would think. It really comes down to the person.
I highly suggest seeing if you can find a copy of the Legally Blonde musical because the music for that was 🔥🔥🔥
13:55 - her name will FOREVER be....Stifler's Mom!!
I didn’t realize Warner was Alaric until you said it. He seems so much younger here that I didn’t put it together, lol. I really liked Alaric (although I didn’t watch all the way thru the series so Idk if he stayed nice), so that may be another reason I didn’t see the resemblance! 😅
I was also 7 when this movie came out.
