Where were you when you watched this movie??
Please watch Thirteen (2003)
@@kyle3554 Yessss. Love that movie.
I actually saw the Musical first then saw the movie.
Legally Blonde was released a few months before 9/11 and I was counting down the days to my wedding in October. We're going on 22 years now. Time passes by so fast. Cherish every moment.
Here's a fun fact my brother used to watch this movie all the time when he was a younger.
“i don’t know if a 179 is a good score?”
elle scored a 179 out of 180, an unheard of almost perfect score. they would be BEGGING to have her attend.
Them and any other school she wanted haha
Elle Woods was my role model growing up. She taught me that you don't need to choose between looks and books, when you can easily have both. Reese brought her to life so vibrantly! 💞
That was literally not the lesson.
It's about not needing to change who you are to fit a mold to be successful and you can be yourself.
Reducing it all about looks is kinda shallow
@@greyscalesx she didn't said that was the message, she said that's what she learned from her
@@greyscalesx No one said that was the whole message. It's just what she learned from it. No one's reducing it to anything. Also, you just said basically the same thing as her but with bigger words.
Agreed! Me too.
@@greyscalesx I think that’s one of the messages of the movie though. Thats why I love this movie tho, bc it touches on many issues & social stigmas women face in society like cute=dumb & smart=ugly and how i think all the messages all shifts towards the overall message of confidence, being yourself and doing anything you set your mind to.
This is such a ground-breaking movie, especially for 2001. The fact that Elle went there for Warner but in the end realised he didn't deserve her and she actually started being there for herself. And yes, she found love with Emmett but that wasn't the focus of the movie. Also she didn't have to change. She still liked fashion and make-up and pink while being a kick ass law student.
The last scene with Elle and Warner outside the courtroom and the graduation scene were not a part of the original script. The two scenes were shot in England some time later because Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Davis were filming there at the time (you can see her hair and make-up are different from the scene before). They were also the only ones present during the graduation scene. The other actors filmed in LA and the whole thing was edited together later.
That's awesome!!!
True. Especially since that era (and those before) would have only had that character exist to be a mean girl archetype or the punchline to cruel jokes. It's definitely a comedy but the punchlines related to her personality is based on how other characters react to her hyperfemininity but it's also celebrated as her strength in the movie itself.
@@ZariDV Right! She was so sweet to everyone, ignored all the name calling and whispering about her but also had no problem standing up for herself. I love the moment when she compliments Vivian's outfit, there was no need for her to do that, Vivian had been nothing but cruel to her by that point but she chose to be the bigger person and even Vivian was surprised by it. She didn't even insult her looks, she admitted that she was pretty.
@Adrianne519 Yes agreed. Elle is the ideal girls' girl. She supports her sisters at the sorority who are similar to her as well as those at Harvard who arent. She's one of those people who is nice because that's her personality and not because she expects something in return. If she has something nice to say then she'll say it even if you don't deserve it. She really is great representation. I love how she spends the whole movie helping different people and offering kindness in different ways. It helped that she also had a backbone and was allowed to be flawed (like her reason for trying to get into Harvard).
@@ZariDV I don't understand why people treat mean girls as the ultimate girl movie while this one is not considered that
28:04 when James said "The UPS guy's not gonna know what hit him", I almost choked on my breakfast 😂 the most perfect accidental foreshadowing 👏🏻👏🏻
I cracked up upon hearing it. Idk how the one who had actually seen the movie before kept her face calm
i was also thinking omg he is about to find out how right he is!
Literally read this as he said it.
It's funny because they play down that her major is in fashion merch which is a business based degree! This girl would have had to take econ, marketing, management along with the fashion based classes. The fact she did all of that AND maintained a 4.0 along with her extra curriculars is SUPER impressive
THIS.
I was low key like...wait...she has an undergraduate business degree? A 4.0 from UCLA and a perfect score on the LSATs? Whatttt???
Can we just admire Hayley's amazing poker face when James was saying that he didn't trust the stepdaughter or the pool boy? She didn't change expression for a second!
I definitely wouldn’t have been able to keep my composure after James said the UPS guy wasn’t gonna know what hit him 😂
@@liamisaac1152 Me neither, I started full on cackling while watching that part!
When they asked “Was he STRAIGHT lying?” about the pool boy 😂😂😂
Elle getting a 179 is an absolute freaking miracle, and that places her in the 90th percentile, the highest you can possibly score on the LSAT is 180, that's a near perfect score. The average LSAT score is a 152. Like yes, she's intelligent but it is a highly improbable score, but the movie is really good aside from their law school rep, aside from the conference room of old white guys selecting the students. A professor at law school is rarely going to just throw around latin phrases, the writers typically do it just to seem educated on law school but nope.
Have you seen the video of the lawyer who watched the movie?
Yeah, that’s like getting a 1590 on your SAT’s. Very few people do that.
@@unclewiley1986 yep, I'm paraphrasing his words. Should've cited my sources.
@@unclewiley1986 you mean the Legal Eagle? Devin is so awesome!!!!
Every time I watch this movie I turn excitedly to my husband and say "that's almost a perfect score" and he nods an agreement and support
The Legally Blonde musical has a pro-shot on UA-cam that's worth seeing. They flesh out the Elle/Emmet relationship, Paulette and the UPS man are played by a real-life husband and wife, the Bend and Snap translates so well as a dance number. (And the gay scene comes off slightly better? Slightly... the song helps...) It's slightly less mean-spirited in some places, too. Also, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy! Happy people just don't shoot their husbands" is so iconic, lol.
The UPS guy is married to Jennifer Coolidge IRL?
@@elizabethstrong6057 no, in the musical's original Broadway cast, orfeh is married to andy karl irl
@@kateorgera5907 ooooh sorry
Yes!
The gay scene is my favourite in the movie (I love the "you bitch!" line), but I definitely understand why it's problematic, and not one to take seriously in terms of good messaging - 'Gay or European' is a banger, though.
Two things. One a lawyer did a good reaction to this and talked about Elle would actually be a good fit for Harvard with her major and grades and test scores. Also there is a whole new money vs old money theme. With Elle’s family being new money compared to Harvard students as old
who did this review?
Yeah like they weren’t lying about the whole diversity thing. A lot of universities look for that which is why there’s a lot of emphasis out on having different extra curricular activities. It’s funny how the counselor made it seem bad that her major was fashion merchandising. A 4.0 gpa is still a 4.0 gpa
@@charlottediedrick6952 the lawyer reaction video I assume they are referring to is LegalEagle! I actually enjoy his takes of how realistic movies and shows can be with lawyer realism and he does a wonderful reaction to this movie!
People are also just different in the Northeast compared to California. In the Northeast they don’t have as much of a friendly outgoing personality as they may have in California or in southern states so it’s very typical that they would be put off by her being so outgoing to complete strangers.
@Chris Collins Honestly I lived in both the north and the south and I feel like people in the south are more fake nice. While people in the north are people who are nice once you get to know them
One of my favorite parts about this movie is how it's absolutely no coincidence that Vivian started seeing Elle as a person after she didn't give Brooke's alibi. Not just because of the confidentiality, but look at her reaction to Warner's "who cares?" Her FIANCE just said right in front of her that he doesn't care about promises.
Elle Woods deserves to be on some kind of... movie pantheon of Goodness.
Imo, she's right up there with quintessential Good Guys like Steve Rogers, Sam Gamgee, and Forrest Gump. What a beacon of positivity and inspiration she is.
Love it ❤️
You know Reese started a book club, and took all the great books and stories then negotiated and earned the copy rights to the books, pitched it to all the major networks like Netflix, HBO, Disney etc made them into movies then sold her part of the company and earned $1 billion dollars! She used her audience and fans to join the book club and read review and choose which book to make into movies, a genius marketing strategy. She is an inspirational business mastermind .
@@TheMaskedChef7 That's amazing. Good for her!
I'm so glad y'all loved this movie!! Some good 2000s movies would be My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Mean Girls, and sisterhood of the traveling pants
I love My Big Fat Greek Wedding! a few other good 2000s movies that I love are Pretty Women and My Best Friend's Wedding, both with Julia Roberts !
@@sarahlawrence599 Do not forget Erin Brockovich it’s the most underrated of all Julia Roberts movies, I like it way more than pretty woman personally!
@bujibite3192 ...this isn't a Julia Roberts marathon, though.
@@sarahlawrence599 Oh my God, I love My Best Friend's Wedding, I really hope they do that one! To add another 2000s feel-good but kind of dramatic movie to the list, Juno's an excellent movie, too.
@@cranberryrosebud My Best Friends Wedding is my comfort movie lol
I'm really glad that these kind of movies have a positive reception these days. I feel like before, people didn't give enough recognition to what they call chick-flicks and what they're about but movies like this and the princess diaries teach you a lot ( independently of gender even, depending on the perspective) about self-love and dignity and also kindness
Well said. I agree. 💕
I love how this whole movie was about not judging a book by its cover and many ppl (myself included) did exactly that when it came to this movie. You see “chick flick” and right away think it’s just going to be a dumb movie. It sucks I never gave myself the chance to enjoy this as a kid because I LOVE it now as an adult
Same here! ❤
I can't, when James asked if the pool boy was just "straight lying", I mean...
SLIGHT SPOILER AHEAD
...he was literally lying about being straight, so I guess you could say that xD
😆
Had the same moment when in the bend and snap scene he said, "He won't know what hit him."
James you have no idea...
The part I loved most about this movie is how absolutely, ride-or-die supportive all of her friends were. So many movies and clichés about women being catty towards each other or treating each other like automatic enemies or opponents is just exhausting, especially having lived it. Girl power is fueled by girls supporting girls!
179 is near perfect. 180 is perfect. And in real life, undergrad degree doesn't matter so much as gpa, lsat and rec to law school. The fact that she ran a sorority on top of extra curriculars, maintaining a 4.0 and managed a near perfect lsat, she's an excellent Harvard candidate.
I love this movie. It is goofy but it is so well done and iconic and the message is awesome.
Have you guys watched 10 things I hate about you? It is a great 2000's movie based on Shakespeare The Taming of the Shrew with Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.
Yeah, they did.
This film is what raised Reese from a minor actor to a major one, and Reese recognized that potential. Reese FOUGHT to get this role, but coming off 1999's "Election", she was viewed as a conniving bitch because she was so good in portrayal in that film.
Reese knew her Hollywood film history, figuring the role of Elle Woods would elevate her just as Judy Holiday in 1950 was raised by her role in "Born Yesterday". "Born Yesterday" was a film about a mob doll being educated to make her a fitting wife for a man planning to run for US Senate. She had previously played bimbos, but decided to make her role 3-dimensional instead of a cartoon of a trashy lady. Judy Holiday won an Oscar for the role.
Reese didn't get an Oscar, but she did get a lot of recognition for doing the same transition of a cliche character into a full-depth human being. After this role, she went from earning hundreds of thousands per film to getting million-dollar contracts and better script offers. Her work in this film transformed her career and her life.
On the subject of frat houses:
Many of the older universities had 'Greek Row' nearby. Fraternities and sororities charge dues from current membership and receive funding from previous members, used to pay expenses. Some of those expenses includes renting or purchasing housing. Older frats/sororities acquired 3-story houses close to campus and often on the same street; hence, 'Greek Row'. Many of these houses were acquired in the 1950s-60s, when the buildings were empty and rundown, so pretty cheap. (See "Animal House".)
"The next time this UPS guy comes in, he's not going to know what hit him."
👀
"what like it's hard?" hits SO DIFFERENT when you learn warner was waitlisted! perfection!
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge are iconic best friends!
They are the best in real life too! 179 on the LSATS is nearly a perfect score the highest score you can get is a 180. Shes really smart!
i love that one of the big messages is to have faith in people! cause tbh even if her being kind and bubbly has a lot of the others at law school making fun of her its also the reason why she is so good at what she does: she gets to take and then win the case because she has enough faith in Brooke to treat her in a way that actually gets them somewhere (Brooke especifically wasnt relying on the lawyers cause "why trust him when he doesnt trust me"), she helps Paulette and David and gets support from both of them in return, she even wins over Vivian cause even at the point where she is still trying to get with Warner, Elle never dismisses Vivian. Elle has faith in people and that is good both to not underestimate others and to bring out the best possible outcome: having faith in yourself and in others opens doors that would otherwise remain shut. Elle being bubbly isnt a character flaw she overcomes or even tones down, its straight up her strenght and you dont often see that type of story
I love how she's typically nice and treats people fairly, but she also isn't afraid to stand up for herself - that's exactly who I want to be, and these types of role models are my favourite.
Elle is just so sweet, positive, resourceful, smart, kind, nice, thoughtful! People need to try really hard to hate her. And Reese loves this character so much, when the dog who played Bruiser passed away, she even made a post about it. 🥺
it always blew me away that they saw "fashion merchandising" as a weakness... like... that's a business degree!
I was a preteen when Legally Blonde came out. There is definitely a number of girls in my class who half-jokingly say that Elle Woods is one of their inspirations to being a lawyer. My own friend is her own little Elle Woods with her love for pink fluffy cutesy things even in her daily law firm outfits.
David Kidney, the guy that Elle pretended to be mad at for breaking her heart, is played by Oz Perkins, the son of Tony Perkins, the star of Psycho.
I think the best part of this movie is how Elle and Vivian became friends.
RIP, Raquel Welch.
Sorry, but I LOVE when Nobu starts to show a little bit of his savage side lol and the fact this movie brought that out a bit, slay xD
More Reese Witherspoon! Great actress, would like to see more reactions of her movies
The movie Fear!

Hot Pursuit!
Reese actually said, tht she took every piece of clothing she wore in this movie as she loved them😄
She still has loads of them too! On the home edit she has a whole wardrobe with pieces from her films
Yah! Finally! This such an iconic movie and so happy you're all watching it!
1:50 Just to explain. Elle is quite wealthy and so are most of her classmates. That’s why most of those sororities and fraternities looked so nice. No doubt lots of parents spend their money in those houses, lol.
Fun fact: the Delta Nu house is part of a real high school in Sierra Madre, California. The building is called Villa del Sol d’Oro. It was also on Princes Diaries, and some other tv shows. Like CSI Miami, Bones, Beverly Hills 90210, etc.
What a great reaction, an absolute classic of a movie. I would love, love, love to see y’all react to the musical of Legally Blonde, it’s one of the rare musicals that matches the movie, and even goes beyond it. Definitely one of my top musicals ever, everyone is absolutely perfect as their roles, the music is fantastic, and overall it is just absolutely amazing (its available on UA-cam, professionally shot)
I feel like I should warn you though, you will absolutely fall in love with Christian Borle as Emmett
It was uplifting and refreshing ❤
Y’all have done musical reactions before, and I would LOVE to see a reaction video to the musical adaptation of this movie. It was professionally recorded by MTV and is up on UA-cam for free
☝️☝️ yes
Yesss!! The musical is ICONIC
Y'all would love My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
What about Erin Brockovich
@bujibite3192 Mm, a good movie but I was thinking of the heartwarming romcom atmosphere.
Oh my god, the bend and snap. Works every time!
❤ this movie. Elle Woods for President!

“Is he straight lying?”
Interesting choice of words 😂
28:06 - "He's not gonna know what hit him" *truer words were never spoken*
Most people don't realise that Universities (and even jobs, to some extent) don't _actually_ care what subjects you did before applying. They're only interested in your end scores and attendence rate, because a high end score and perfect-to-high attendence proves that you can apply yourself, keep to a tight schedule, are reliable and pay attention, are willing and capable of learning, work well with others (since usually school/college/uni work requires some aspects of group work) and will be a hard worker prepared to put in the hours to succeed - even at personal cost like not going out and getting drunk every night. So really, they had absolutely no valid reason to refuse her application - she qualified under every metric they had. Heck, even her video application proved she was willing to go above and beyond to get in and think outside the box with her solutions (not just sticking to the same paper application everyone else does).
I love Elle's character a lot. She just a good person and even though she started Harvard for someone else she realized her own value in the end. It may seem very of it's time and some things don't age well in retrospect but Reese does such a great job as the character. I really like her befriending Viviane eventually too, even becoming bestfriends in the end. It's so funny because I disliked most movies in this category growing up that are considered a chic flick (I kinda dislike that term tho tbh) because most I just didn't click with but this and Clueless were ones I did enjoy.
I hear Peter Jackson is planning a billion-dollar trilogy sequel called "Smeagolly Blonde."
I still vote for What a Girl Wants, depending on whether you want YA stuff or adult romance.
Let's go! You're icons for reacting to Legally Blonde. Such a classic. I know it feels dumb to say because it's a 2000s movie, but this, along with Mean Girls are two of the early 2000s classics.
If you watched this movie, might as well watch Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock sometime. It has the same type of feel and The Devil Wears Prada is a MUST.
Edit: Watching most of the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial has ruined me on how a real courtroom works and all of the movie/tv stuff is like blah now haha
I absolutely second Miss Congeniality!!!!
For real, courtroom law is so dry and boring in real life.
28:11 "He's not going to know what hit him." lololololololol
A couple of things:
This movie was written by the same female comedic writing team that did 10 Things I Hate About You.
Reese is only 5ft1, Jennifer is 5ft10
So to answer your question as to, is she just tall or is she just short, it’s both.
So many people already recommended this but I think you guys would enjoy the musical. The full pro shot is free on youtube.
If you guys still do musical reactions, you should totally do the musical version of this movie. It’s got some great songs and actors!
Yes, frats and sororities, especially on big campuses, tend to have their own large house to live in. A lot of times it's off campus (but close by). It's one of the perks of joining.
When my relationship ended because my girlfriend broke up with me, I went through the spiral of a break-up and all that comes with it... But it's this little film/movie that I've been watching since I was six years old that reminded me to have "faith in myself" and that I didn't needed her to move on with my life. So yeah, it's been saving people since 2001.
Literally just watched Legally Blonde for the first time 2 days ago, and ELLE WOODS is such a sweetheart, I love her! Immediately jumped to Legally Blonde 2 right after...
Didn’t hit me how impressive 4.0 is until I got to college. Elle woods is impressive. Also, you don’t need to be in business school to enter Law school. And there are a lot of different fields of law that lawyers can enter (granted, so much freaking work, so at your own risk).
Fun cast facts: the guy who plays David is the son of Anthony Perkins (Psycho) and Alanna Ubach (who plays Elle's brunette bestie from LA) is the voice of Mama Imelda in Coco.
"The next time this UPS guy comes in, he's not gonna know what hit im" Oh you have NO idea, literally XD
Love this movie. Also highly suggest listening to/watching the musical version! Pretty sure it can be found professionally-shot on UA-cam.
It wasn’t until this exact moment that I realized Warner is Alaric! Geez 🤦🏾♀️😪😂
You NEED to do the musical next! There’s usually a version of it floating around. I love the movie and I love the musical just as much.
Yes!! Love this movie. Sends so many good messages to girls/young women: you deserve better than dipshits like Warner, you can do the whole fancy school/fancy career thing if you work for it, the ''dumb blonde'' isn't real, you don't have to be a conformist, you don't have to catfight with your ex guy's new girl or take some type of Mean Girls-esque revenge. And its funny. Its great. Side note: The musical is also pretty great. There's a whole 'is he gay or just European?' song in it that's hilarious 😅.
I still remember renting this when it came out and immediately buying it on VHS after. Always loved it, even as a brunette. 😋 Bruiser is so adorable and plays an even bigger role in the sequel btw.
RIP Raquel Welch 💕
Oh wow she just passed away. May she rest in peace
@@unclewiley1986 Yep I was sad when I heard the news. First time I saw her was in this movie and an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch when I was a kid. My mom was a fan of hers and told me who she was back then.
Ñ
I dont know if you've seen it, but if you haven'ty'all absolutely HAVE to watch "crazy, stupid, love"
Honestly I based my entire personality on this movie as a child and that’s still stuck with me today, it’s such a great message that you can be more than one thing, and that there’s no need to play into the stereotypical roles set by society, you can absolutely be a girly girl and still be a badass lawyer or you’re not like that and it’s still okay
This was a lovely unexpected surprise reaction. You guys laughing hard is so heartwarming LOVE IT ❤️
When I saw this in theaters a couple five rows ahead started fighting resulting in the woman yelling "How dare you say that " and stormed out of the theater
"the next time this ups guy comes in, he's not gonna know what hit him" James with the PROPHECY 😂😂😂
The next time this UPS guy comes in, he's not gonna know what hit him! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Ain't that the truth!!!
The Jackie/Marilyn line from the breakup scene refers to President Kennedy (JFK). He was married to socialite Jackie Kennedy, but was rumored to have an affair with actress Marilyn Monroe.
Ah, that's why ! Thanks because as a french I never understood the reference
Y'all would absolutely LOVE The Devil Wears Prada.
If y'all have never watched or listened to the musical of this film, I highly recommend it. It's a really great adaptation that I think actually elevates it a little. This is such a brilliant and feel good movie :)
Now I'm old, I kind of think that a movie with healthy messages kind of is a "God's Gift" to the world. This movie has aged beautifully in a way that so many comedies from the 80s and 90s haven't, because it is so wholesome, whilst still being really entertaining and sucking in the interest of pretty much anyone who encounters it.
I don't know if you've watched it already, but Groundhog Day is another Rom Com that not only holds up, but is even deeper than Legally Blonde on the social and philosophical questions and examples.
Side observation, the lecturer talking the student out of being sure about his own knowledge had a point about bringing that into a courtroom where the liberty of your client or the financial welfare is on the line. It's ok to be wrong in class, not much for practising lawyers.
A change I really loved about the musical: when Elle was ready to quit at the end, the person who convinced to stay was Vivian.
I REALLY ENJOYED LEGALLY BLONDE👍👍🔥. REESE WITHERSPOON WAS GREAT IN THIS MOVIE AND I LIKED THE GROWTH IN HER CHARACTER AS SHE WENT FROM THIS COOL GIRL TRYING TO FING LOVE TO A LAWYER WHO FOUGHT THE CASE AGAINST ALL ODDS IN THE UNIVERSITY 🤩🤩😆🔥
9:46 "Is [the LSAT] out of 200?"
No, it's out of 180. Elle scored a 179/180. Also, most grad schools don't care what your major was in undergrad. You can major in cello and go to veterinary school. If anything, Elle's unique major makes her a better candidate, and with that LSAT score, she's an obvious admission, for any law school, even Ivy League.
And remember that Warner was waitlisted, but Elle got in, first try. Makes the "What, like it's hard?" cut a little deeper.
I love how Hailey immediately interrupted the guys when they started kinda slightly bashing the movie. Because yeah, this may be "just a silly rom-com" (although I don't get what is SO bad about rom-coms) but apart from that the movie has an amazing message even for today 2023 standards (and for early 2000s it is something unheard of): (i) super femininity is not demonized, (ii) it is possible to be super pretty and super intelligent, (iii) the girls stop battling over a guy pretty quickly, (iv) even though Elle gets a guy in the end is more of an afterthought not the main focus, (v) all girls are super supportive of each other, (vi) not once it is suggested that Elle might have "invited" being assaulted, (vii) Elle is confident even in the most embarrassing situations, (viii) despite every single possible trope it is Elle with her super "superficial" appearance who is the nicest out of all people we meet.
I was in 2001 when I first saw this. I also feel like Elles first day is Law School was a mirror of James' entire collegiate career.
If you guys want more movies kind of like this, I recommend 13 Going On 30, Uptown Girls, Mean Girls, She's The Man, Clueless, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and Freaky Friday the 2003 version.
I gotta say the 1976 Freaky Friday - starring a young Jodie Foster - is also a lot of fun. I like both versions in different ways.
THIS MOVIE IS *ICONIC.*
Please watch the second one it’s also really good and brings up animal cruelty and cosmetics.
Yall should watch the
Musical version on UA-cam
Ive been so hyped for this!!! :D You should totally do more 90s-00s movies. Shes all That, Clueless, I know what you did last summer, etc
Pleeeeease do Mean Girls with the ladies. It's hilarious 😂
My fav reactors reacting to my favourite movie 😭😭 i love this movie. One of the thing that i like in this movie is how they treat Vivian character, eventhough it can be cliche in some rom com movies in general but in this movie how they became best friend at the end is just so good. Also girl power!! How they shows Elle studying hard for Harvard etc.
This is one of my comfort movies ^___^
and the musical is also so much fun. I believe it is uploaded to UA-cam in full and would be another fun thing for you all to watch and potentially react to.
Love that your watching this.
The musical version of this is amazing. A total watch!!!
I’m so happy to see this movie being reacted to finally. Elle Woods is simply iconic.
Yes! I remember seeing this in the theater with my mom, aunt and cousin. Having also been dumped in a 5 star restaurant a few years back, I can officially say “I’ve been Elle Woods’d” 😅
I doubt I'm the first to comment on this, but you should totally watch the musical version of this show that was professionally filmed for MTV. Almost every relationship is expanded and, imo, improved upon. And the songs slap!
Fun Fact: The brown haired friend of Elle, Serena, played by Alanna Ubach voiced Mama Imelda in Coco.
Fun fact: the tall awkward student (David?) was played by Anthony Perkins's (the main character in Psycho) son.
I really liked her going all the way back to her film, "Cruel Intentions" and "Election" - where she really started shining on screen. This was really her signature break-out role however and it really put her into the public eye
Other films I would recommend with her
- Hot Pursuit ... mindless silly fun
- Wild ... she really shows a lot of emotional range & vulnerability
- Monsters vs. Aliens ... purely voice work, but a fun movie
- Walk the Line ... oh, shit... she can sing, too!
- Sweet Home Alabama ... Very cute movie
- Pleasantville ... which was just a great movie
They don’t mention it, but a perfect score on the LSAT’s is a 180. Elle got a 179, which means she almost got a perfect score.
This would have been just another typical late 90s-early 2000s comedy but it became a legend because of how Reese Witherspoon played Elle. Genius casting, IMO. ❤
For the longest time I would watch Vampire Diaries and think “he looks so familiar”…but then watch Legally Blond and think “I know him from something…”🙃
Fun fact: the score of 179 on the LSAT, is practically perfect. The highest score possible is 180.
I love that you've been doing not only these 2000s films, but ones that are dubbed "chick flics". It's always fun for me to see men watching them and actually enjoying them. I've never seen this movie because at the time it came out, I was deep in my 'Black is Everything and I Hate Girly Crap" phase, but it's been on my To-Watch list for a while now, but I'm def gonna watch it soon after seeing these clips.
Another good 2000s film I recommend is A Cinderella Story (the original with Hilary Duff). It's fun, cheesy, and a time capsule of the early 2000s but I love it so much.
Every time I watch this movie, I swear I wanna just punch Warner in the face.
It's one thing to just abruptly break up with her. BUT, to break up with her in a PUBLIC place? Drawing unnecessary attention? Causing her utter embarrassment?
Warner is just downright stupid, he didn't bother thinking about that beforehand.
I watch this movie every time I feel blue. It's like a person to support me, I love it! I know it almost by heart, but I'm ready to watch it anytime! In 2000 I went to university and my girls (my group-mates) gave me a video cassette with this movie! And it was a great gift! Thanks, guys, great reaction!!!
That sounds amazing!!
How did I never notice until this moment that Warner was Alaric Saltzman until you said that? They’re such different characters that it never clicked for some reason.
This movie is very iconic and very funny.
El kind of has a sixth sense because she says in the film in the beginning how she would rather have a client who is innocent and then later in the film she represents Brooke who actually turns out to be innocent and I like how that is set up in the film and paid off at the end it's a really good well done little plot point same with the things between her and Warner how he says he wants to marry Jackie not a Maryland and he wants to be a senator by the time he's 30 and then at the end of the film El flips around and says basically the same thing but that if she is going to be a partner At a law firm by the time she's 30 she needs a boyfriend who's not such a bonehead and then we also get the reference to Luke Wilson's character we get the set up for it at the beginning and then the payoff at the end so I like how all the little details of the movie are really well thought through and there's a lot of other stuff like the stuff with Paulette as well and thepackage delivery guy is done so well in this film it's such a great film.
