  • Even as someone who needs the horror genre 365 days a year, I still have that increased itch for fun-loving, feel-good fare during the holiday season. This year, one of the biggest delights paving the way to the holidays and spreading good vibes every step of the way is the new CBS sitcom, Ghosts.
Inspired by the British series of the same name, the CBS show stars Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Samantha and Jay, a couple who opt to leave their city life behind when they inherit an old country estate, hoping to renovate the place and turn it into a bed and breakfast. However, much to their surprise, soon after moving in, they come to learn that the house is actually occupied - by ghosts. And much to the ghosts’ surprise, they discover that Samantha is the first living person they’ve ever met who can actually see and hear them.
With Ghosts currently powering through its first season, McIver joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night. As always, we did focus a good deal on her latest accomplishment, but also took the time to look back and revisit her most pivotal moments and discussed how they influenced her career path and her craft moving forward.
Check out what she had to say about Xena: Warrior Princess, Power Rangers RPM, The Lovely Bones, Once Upon a Time, Ghosts, and more on this edition of Collider Ladies Night!

We've got Rose's picks -- now we want YOU to make your own Ghosts house! Tell us where it's located, pick a ghost from the past, an entertainer from the present and a friend who'll believe you when you tell them you can see ghosts. GO!!

Location: Near the Alamo. If they can leave, maybe my ghost friends can convince the ghosts there to tell me some cool stories.
Famous Ghost: Robin Williams. When he's in the mood to entertain, he would be like the Genie for real, but a ghost. In the quiet moments, I can help him deal with the things that made his life sad.
New Ghost: This one is tricky because I don't like the idea of trapping someone against their will... or killing needlessly. Can a puppet die? If so, I choose Walter, one of Jeff Dunham's puppets. He would be an incredible ghost. The right amount of mischievous and not murder-y.
Roommate: My aunt Rachel. She's known as our "crazy" aunt so seeing ghosts wouldn't be too weird for her. I think that she would have fun. Plus, maybe she would have less senior moments if she had people to talk to all the time.

I have to say, the American iteration of Ghosts has really come into it's own and is actually quite good, largely thanks to the charm and chemistry of its 2 leads, Rose and Utkarsh.

First thing I ever saw her in was Power Rangers RPM as Summer. Not exactly high art, but it was fun, one of the franchise's best seasons, and she was the best actor on it.

I saw Power Rangers RPM as an adult so I didn't get to connect with it growing up, but Rose was great in that. I gotta say though, I LOVED her in iZombie. Such a fantastic show. I really should finish that last season (I got caught up watching other shows lol) because Rose, Rahul, and the rest of that cast were fantastic. I'm so glad that they have all gone on to bigger and better things but wouldn't it be something if they did a one and done movie sometime down the line?

I saw an article about her the other day where she had said she was on Xena: Warrior Princess and then it popped into my brain “OH WAIT! You were Daphne on Xena” 😁😁😁

Rose's accent is perfect. She even looks American! ( I mean that in a nice way.)

Disappointed that she didn't once mention her time on Power Rangers. At least they used her photo from RPM lol

You can hear about Power Rangers in the podcast version of the interview. (The link is in the description of the video.) OR ... just wait. We'll release that clip soon. 😉

Had no idea she was from New Zealand and had an accent, she hides it really well on Ghosts.
