"Sometimes I need to be/Just where I am" is one of my favorite lines of all time. When "The Taller You Are..." came out I drew a lot of inspiration from it, and from this song.
When I was living in NYC in 1989, my own dad died, and I saw posters for MY DAD IS DEAD all over the place, but I never got a chance to see the band. Now, thanks to UA-cam, I can catch up on it.
I too, listened to this 'band' when it first came out. I might even have bought the cassette. It was popular on a collage station here in town, WZBC. For some reason, this 'band' popped into my head today. It took me a while to remember the name. I looked it up on YT and, 31 years later, here it is!. As far as I remember though, My Dad Is Dead is a one man band. He wrote and sang all the songs, and played all the instruments and overlaid the tracks. I don't think he toured, but he well could have put a band together and toured. Back then, I thought it was good, with a listenable hard edge to it. Listening 30 years later, it hasn't aged very well. Of course, that's just my opinion.
I met you in the 80's when you came to Seattle, performed at the Ditto Tavern, and I think you might of stayed at our house. Great music, still is great after all this time.
