I was at that show. You definitely couldn't not hear the talking at the time. They were LOUD.

I sense Neurosis but with a more hardcore twist and a touch of Meshuggah's instrumentation. Especially with those muted low notes. Ah. Really needed this. Loved Neurosis, but I'm digging Sumac's modern touch, and flirtation with odd times and tempos.

I’m assuming the crowd noise is high because the “room” mic was positioned at the FOH (front of house mixer/engineer area) which is quite far back near the bar. Otherwise if the mic was nearer the stage you’d hear no crowd noise as the sound coming off the stage would easily drown them out. I was at this show, it was great, Nicks other band Baptist’s tore the roof off the same venue around the same time.

No but you can loon up his rig online on uber radio and it lists Aarons equipment. There is also a UA-cam video and he shows his live setup for Isis, but for sumac I know he doesn't use many effects. He might have an od pedal but other then that I think its just amp presets and maybe an equalizer.
+Scott Claremont Not sure what he's got going live but the rig on the album (as per Aaron on his blog) was: "the Fryette Pitbull Ultra Lead. Both guitars used were both EGC. Only pedals were the Strymon blueSky and Line 6 DL4"

Fantastic music, incomprehensible lyrics! It would be better without any "singing". Love the sound though.
These vocals grow on you. By the way, this guy can sing clean and he has a pretty beautiful voice, check In Fiction by his other band ISIS.

I hated the dirty screams until I started to listen to Isis. Now they're the reason I come back.
