  • In another twist to the Kano Emirate tale, a state High Court yesterday ordered the police to evict the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from the Nasarawa Palace.
Justice Amina Aliyu issued an interim injunction restraining Bayero and the emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye from parading themselves as monarchs.
The order is to subsist pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the applicants.
The judge gave the order after hearing yesterday’s ex-parte application by counsel for the state - Ibrahim Isa Wangida.
It comes four days after the Federal High Court in Kano granted an order restraining the state government from enforcing the Emirate Council Repeal Law that reinstated Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II.
Yesterday’s order reads: “That an order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the first, second, third, fourth and fifth defendants either by themselves, servants, privies, and or any other persons or officers serving under them or acting in connection with any other person from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the applicants.
“That an order is hereby granted to the extent that the Commissioner of Police Kano State should immediately take over the palace of the Emir of Kano situated at State Road Kano and evict the first defendant/respondent from the said palace pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice dated 24 May, 2024.
“That an order of this hon. court is hereby granted restraining the first, second, third, fourth and fifth Defendants from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye in the interest of peace in Kano pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
The judge ordered the CP “to ensure immediate implementation of the order in the interest of justice.”
He adjourned until June 11 for a hearing of the motion on notice.
