I can't help but disagree. I believe it's basically "More of the same". That's not bad when I enjoy the game but it's in no way ground breaking or fundamentally changing. It's nearly the exact same map as previous expansions. The gameplay isn't changing at all, slight refinement for the better but that's also nearly identical.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Adding a new coat of fresh paint. Put differently: the iPhone barely changes iteration to iteration but it does nearly continuously get lighter by a few grams. This is not really any different than that.
If you're Square or an investor: you don't want to kill the golden goose.
8.0 or 9.0 will be where any real change occurs. They rarely mess with the battle system except for two things: 1) Fresh coat of paint, same thing but refined slightly, quality of life. 2) Lower the bar to entry.
That's the thing that's going to change. People only want to do a rotation for so long.
👍 fair enough!
100% agreed
yeah, for me is the same, i think this game need first a total overhaul of the open area. they feel good to see but nothing really exiting to do in it ( hidden stuff, some puzzle or something more fun ). Is a shame they have built a big world but is kinda of feel empty... Most of the game is instanced and can be ok but i would really loved if they do something with the open area (fate is the same stuff over and over...) . The concept of the game is every time the same : new dungeon to rush..., trial, raid and some experimental stuff who goes to dead shortly...( kinda if they finally kill the residential area and give a instanced house to all the player with the island instead of a grind mindless boring area...) and go on until the end of the cicle. Raid i would really loved if they don't continue to put other game idea on the raid but instead use the lore of FFXIV and do something original. The last one was really good for me at least was about the Twelve god :D Same was for the raid of ARR and Heavensward. Not really a fun of the lvl 70, 80, raid to be honest. For this time i think i pass as i pass Stormblood. Not a fan of the theme of this patch at all :P But i hope other player can enjoy it a lot :)
That's how I feel. It's all going to be the same stuff, just different areas and story. Finish story, farm tombstones, farm raids. Wait for 7.1 for the rest of content. It feels like for the last few expansions they just use the same checklist/roadmap without really introducing anything new that's worthwhile
@@Eric-sp7wz because that's exactly what will happen. I've been playing on and off since Heavens ward and the formula has been the same ever since then. I just got burned out after playing for over 4k hours. Sucks I'm in too deep now to stop, so I'll be seeing yall in the expansion in a few days
Being a story focused gamer, I'm obviously waiting for the new MSQ. But as an old head that played FFXI for 12 yrs from NA release, the thing I'm most anticipating is Echoes of Vanadiel.
Side note: The redeux of the Sea theme you had going in the background gave me the strongest nostalgia wood. 🤜🤛
I figured it was appropriate with all the XI imagery we have going on. :P Thanks for checking it out!
I've actually noticed some doom and gloom post EW. Maybe it is the big influx of players who started with SHB or EW. They think that the game could never be better than it was in SHB or EW. I totally disagree and my personal favorite time in the game was Stormblood. I think what they have shown off is incredible and shows they still have a massive love and duty to make the game.
When EW was launching I was very nervous because the game I had loved and played so much since 2014 was having a finale. What I realized is that the devs would not disappoint the people who truly love this game. I also realized that, even in ARR / HW / Stormblood, where I didn't pay close attention to the story, I still loved the game so much. There are so many positive aspects coming to dawntrail and their ideology with expanding almost every part of the game systems is a perfect idea.
Reworking of jobs post 7.2? UI updates? Dye system? Ultimates? Exploratory Missions? ALSO criterion? A free fantasia? All the unexplored stories and areas of the world? I'm not saying this is a guarantee but I actually TRUST the devs of this game. Dawntrail has incredible potential to grip all the people who have doubted them post endwalker.
HUUUUUGE agree. I've played since ARR and I've felt the ebb and flow of the overall attitude of the community as things have risen and fallen. In terms of whats on offer, Dawntrail is positioned to be, far and away, the most jam packed expansion we've ever had. Even if the the story they start with this expansion is only as good as what most people consider to be the "worst" story, Stormblood, it will still be a fine story and the amount of QoL, content, and new shine on everything with all of the updates we're getting? As long as they don't absolutely fumble this thing in the 11th hour, it's a guaranteed slam dunk, 15/10, goated, undeniable.
I do agree that the game can still get better, but I personally I think that ShB and EW should be where the stakes peak. I think they should avoid planet destroying threats going forward
Job changes in 7.2 was a translation error. They're not targeting any major job changes until 8.0.
I'm sure that we'll see changes throughout 7.x, but I'm excited for the major changes in 8.0 for sure!
@@sharlayanforum Yeah, really looking forward to much-needed updates in two years. /s
@ExceedProduction the way i see it, I can choose the either be angry about something I can't change or I can just play the game I enjoy playing knowing that things will change.
The game isn't perfect, but nothing ever really is. I just choose to not play it out of spite, logging in every day and saying "man I hate this game and I hate the way this job is designed."
If I ever felt like that I would just play a different game, lol
great video, I'm very excited for this expansion also. Especially after the launch trailer
Can't wait!
Calling it this expansion will be declared dead by various established content creators before 7.01 is out.
"Bro (last expansion) was honestly the only time this game has been good. It's so over in (next expansion.) Things were fine in (current expansion) and I have no idea why they feel like they have to change it."
Who gives a shit what they think, they are getting payed to say whatever they want on the internet. If the numbers prove them wrong then they will get blown the fuck out and look like a joke.
True, it’s like this in every expansion.
Dude... I felt exactly the same way. I wasnt planning to come back at first from the first reveal, thought it looked meh, boy was I wrong from all the stuff they've shown. I'm super excited about the graphics update... game looks stellar.
I definitely went from "whelmed" to "overwhelmed" with my excitement
I think some people are already tired of the idea that the story is going to be about the ancients, and that Solution 9 might be the "City of Gold" where the ancients have lain dormant. But I disagree. I think the story we've had thus far has taken us to the "end" of the calamities (lol not likely) so giving the world an origin story and exploring what came before the history we know of the world (not the shards) is not only logical but interesting as hell to me.
Agreed! I want to see more about Allag and the previous calamities, and more about what happened between the ancient world and now.
@@sharlayanforum People keep telling me they're done with the Allagans but I dunno, man. Right now they're just a MacGuffin to explain *some* technology in the world. There's a lot that's unexplored there. I refuse to believe they would be that advanced and the only characters we got from it was Unei and Doga.
exactly!
Dawntrail looked everything like Endwalker 2.0 when they first announced it at Las Vegas, but a year later it's looking more like Stormblood 2.0. (Which is a good thing.) I think they pivoted direction for the expansion following the criticism people had for Endwalker's direction. I'm impressed they found a way to add a field operation when Dawntrail already looked pretty packed before they announced it.
I think if Dawntrail has a satisfying MSQ, follows up on the promise to "shake up" encounters, and addresses some job issues (mainly healer stuff) I think it could be the best expansion yet.
Agreed!
I think changing the fight design and job design at the same time is only partly problematic for the system shock - it's also problematic because it's an absolutely mammoth task to not only change how all the jobs work, but how they interact with whatever new content you come up with, while also keeping the new iterations balanced anywhere near the standard we have today. Pushing for a universal overhaul would have just given us a Gordias but worse situation, so I'm glad they haven't done a big kneejerk response and are being methodical about it. Can't wait for DT
Absolutely! I suppose I could've elaborated more, but all of this is sort of what I meant to say when I said system shock, I think if they changed EVERYTHING all at once we'd have rampant balance issues, bad engagement, and a lot of angry players. Thanks for checking the video out!
To add on to that, if everything changes and things are going wrong, it's even harder to pinpoint what the problem is. Is it the new job feel? Or was it the new mechanic timings etc. You might not be able to tell what the true cause of the frustration would be.
@magusware8721 true and real
@@sharlayanforum Ah I get you, when I hear that I just automatically associate the term with how players feel about something ie. getting overwhelmed with lots of things changing. Glad you agree!
I keep forgetting I need to empty my inventory before launch, I only got 10 open spots currently and both retainers are full of glamour gear.
Time for some spring cleaning before summer vacation!
I had the same first impression of Dawntrail - having not enjoyed EW very much (Abyssos was the highlight for me) I was thinking I might have to sit this one out or just be an MSQ tourist. I remember thinking “is this really the best they can do?” with the viper reveal. But then I saw how it and Pictomancer actually play and was super pleasantly surprised. I have a lot of hope for Shade’s Triangle and the cosmic exploration stuff. I don’t like or agree with some of the job changes but otherwise feeling okay about it. hopefully our positivity pans out lol
I have faith 👏
I’m about to start EW. Why did you not enjoy EW? Was the story bad, or was it just because of the endgame content? If the story is bad, I might just skip it and watch a recap or something and jump straight into Dawntrail
The story of Endwalker was fantastic. The endgame content wasn't super popular, and the patch stories were not very well received.
@@smellybearc7411 I think most people really enjoyed EW’s story. I don’t want to color your potential enjoyment of it by explaining my personal gripes with it. The patch quests were not anyone’s favorite afaik, but you might feel differently.
I mostly disliked EW because content-wise, it felt very paint by numbers. We got a handful of standout savage fights and one ultimate that everyone loved (and another that lots of people hate). Criterion dungeons were actually amazing design-wise but ended up being pretty DOA. As a deep dungeon solo fan I was happy with Orthos but if you’re not soloing it good luck finding full groups to clear it now to get the mount (4 clears). Not much in EW had a lot of staying power. Some of the stuff I really like (exploration zones with alternative leveling and lots of grinding to do) was completely absent. I spent more time in Eureka this expansion working on a handful of SB relics than I did getting all the Manderville ones
This is like Stormblood 2.0 levels of content and oh my god am I so ready. I feel like people who started in Shadowbringers/Endwalker are going to fall in love with the game all over again. I took the first tier off from raiding in a static JUST to enjoy the game and all of the newness because I just know it is going to be incredible.
I love that the entire community seems to be rallying behind just being stoked for Dawntrail. I feel like I haven't seen this much positivity for an expansion since like ShB
@@sharlayanforum For real, it's so exciting!
I started playing after Endwalker was released. (it was about a month before 6.1 came out). I have never been so hyped for anything in my whole life. I cannot wait!
Welcome aboard!
Also it’s a TOURNAMENT ARC 🤩🤩🤩
My static and I are unbelievably hype for the ff14 tournament season
So excited for the story.
Same! I'm very curious to see where they go with it!
I do hope that the rework to jobs to reduce simplification brings them on level with the likes of Viper and Picto. I’ve been seeing a lot of elitist comments that want jobs to be split to both ends of the spectrum. High end jobs that casual players would struggle to grasp, and “brain dead jobs like summoner for the crayon eaters who can’t get good,” as one person so eloquently put it. That’s a very damaging approach to take.
Yeah, I think creating an extreme tri-archy between the jobs for "bad" players, jobs for only the "top" players, and then everyone else in the middle is really harmful. I see the design fo Viper and Pictomancer, and even Reaper and Sage to an extent, being where jobs are heading. They're simple enough as a base job, but they can be played with so much nuance that they become extremely fun and complicated to optimize.
@@sharlayanforum I even heard a good suggestion from Weskalber for a way to make even the “brain dead” summoner have some optimizations they can include. A system similar to Reaper’s Gibbet and Gallows where one enhances the other. You apply that to the primal summons, and depending which order you summon them, the second and third gain some sort of effect. He used a hypothetical Ramuh, Leviathan, and Shiva as “Phoenix gems” where he suggested Leviathan inflicts Dropsy, the that status makes Ramuh’s damage higher, or Shiva’s effect causes deep freeze or Slow on your waterlogged foes.
@raarasunai4896 There's a lot of really good options for making the more "basic" jobs have a lot more flavor, for sure!
@sharlayanforum I'm certainly a fan of the idea of jobs going the route RPR and SGE went, as I thoroughly enjoyed both of those jobs in Endwalker. Sage especially, as I'm nowhere near a healer main, or even off healer, and I loved playing healer with that job! The idea that most of a healer's whole kit revolves around the job maximizing damage uptime because that generates healing is a bit of a personal favorite archetype of mine, and SGE just hit all the right buttons that the other healers just couldn't. Reaper is just plain fun!
If future job design follows this trajectory, I'm 100% all on board with this! Bring it on, I say!
Can confirm based on msq alone...it isn't
I'm enjoying it!
@@sharlayanforum fair enough but EW and ShB are better, I've finished the MSQ I don't want to spoil it but in terms of rankings I can't believe I'm saying this but ARR might be neck and neck. In terms of content though omg a very good expansion. The story for me though just wasn't hitting on any level.
@tjandhuri I'm just about finished with it. I think that the overarching story so far is probably on par with something like Stormblood, which while not on the level of Shadowbringers, is a perfectly serviceable story.
We also have to address our biases of coming off of a 10 year saga into something new. This is, for all intents and purposes, another ARR. I think this absolutely kills ARR in terms of pacing and writing.
There are sections that prattle on and feel longwinded; but that exists in every expansion. We're just more attuned to it with this being the beginning of a new story arc.
Saving this to comment when I finish Dawntrail
First to comment! But, I agree this might be the best expansion ever. With a new story line to all locale throughout Tural to how 7.0 and beyond will be the best ever
I'm extremely excited! Thanks for the continued support!
@@sharlayanforum no worries
something to notw is with the graphical update, not ALL of the game is getting updated right off the rip. as far as I know. on launch its likely just going to me character models and new zones. maybe rocks and grass textures and stuff. so its going to feel disjointed at first
Well this wont age well.
Just finished the MSQ today. I think people dooming about it are the same people who would doom about anything the game does at this point. The story wasn't amazing, but it was fine. No worse than Stormblood.
All of the content has been incredible so far, and I'm excited to see what they do with the rest of the content that's coming. These are easily the best dungeons and trials we've had on release in any expansion in the games history.
@@sharlayanforum I don't agree with that. I love XIV and have played it for years now.
I think in this expansion there's been a lot of great things. I really enjoy the zones, the OST is excellent as always, I like the job changes and the graphical update is fantastic I think. Going through dungeons was incredible.
That being said, I think this expansion also has a lot of divisive things going for it. I agree with much of people sentiment around the story and it feeling lackluster. I get, we're starting a new story but going back to ARR errand boy and it really being us as a side kick to Wuk didn't vibe with a lot of folks, myself included. That was strong criticism after ARR and now we've reverted back to that and I think there are better ways to tell a story that doesn't sideline you, the player. I think it's also fair to say that certain characters didn't click with everyone. I can't think of a more divisive character in XIV than Wuk. She gets more hate than Lyse ever did.
It's a tough act to follow from EW and ShB but I do think SE can do better with the story moving forward and I don't think that's an unfair criticism. I think many want the game and story to be better and I think SE is capable of delivering based on what we've seen but it doesn't mean that they didn't miss MSQ-wise on this expansion so far.
I think that's an actual well thought out reason to not love the MSQ, and I agree with a lot of it. I think it dragged it's feet in places and made poor choices with some of the spotlights in certain areas, who they were placed on and for what actions, etc.
However, the majority of people posting about it are not this thought out. They're whining about names being hard to say and cutscenes being long, as if we've forgotten we're all playing a JRPG.
I think comparing it ARR is a pretty accurate and apt description, because in a sense, this is ARR-2. We're going into a new arc. We have to do some world building and character setup just like we did in ARR for the next 10 years. It's just the way these stories are built.
It’s gonna be tough for it to be better than heavensward tbh
Story wise, I agree, content wise? I think it's going to blow HW out of the water
@@sharlayanforum yea, can’t wait for Friday. Glad warrior is still good and untouched
Wait.... " plus beastmaster", i have not heard anything about that yet..
Yes, Beastmaster is coming as a limited job alongside Blue Mage during the expansion
This will be a much needed break from the Final Shape grind. Don't get me wrong, the Final Shape is amazing, but that journey in Destiny is over now for me with the end of the saga. Feels surreal to see the ending as an adult nearing his mid 20s in January, compared to when I first started as a 15 year old teenager.
That said, I'm in it for the long haul with FFXIV. I just hope we get more new armor sets this expansion (especially coats) since Endwalker was a massive letdown in the fashion department (I only liked the Garlean sets). So far, I'm liking what I've heard from the streams and I've seen that Ranged DPS will get a fur-trimmed coat as tome gear which I'm all for it. Praying for a cowboy gear set though
Detinee grind is definitely a grind
@@sharlayanforumThe Khvostov grind was rough. Took me an entire day just to get the legendary variant of it in Destiny 2. The gun is definitely worth it, especially the exotic version, super fun in PvE
I believe the story is going to feel not as good, and probably even more like ESO or WoW, but you're really not gonna care because the content is going to be there. You're gonna have lots of fun, and the story will begin to slowly feel like an afterthought; that's okay, because it's an MMO.
It'll be hard to top the setup and delivery that was the previous 10 years of story, but I'm willing to give them a shot! thanks for chekcing out the video!
It will be the exact same as every expansion with the exact same content in the exact same order just with a different coat of paint and new story. Dunno why everyone is acting like this isn't just literally more of the same
I suppose I'm more optimistic!
@@sharlayanforum I'm excited to play the game. I'm just not sure why people are expecting this eexpansion to be so much different. It's going to have the same content we have gotten in the past and everyone knows that
I think saying that this expansion is exactly the same as all the others is like saying that all pizzas are the same, regardless of whats on them or how they're built. We're getting the same building blocks, but they're all being delivered for the first time in unison. This will be the first expansion ever to have all of these individual pieces of content on offer, in a new form, at the same time.
I think it not having the stakes is a good thing. I can finally relax, Isaias, my character, can relax. We can just chill. We don’t have to run around.
I think the stakes are definitely lower than "The world is about to end plz help," but we all know some shenanigans are going to go down in Tural
Same old formula. Been playing since 2.1 and I just cant anymore. Its kinda sad as I love my character and sitting at 7K hours
As the old adage goes:
"If you're not having fun, don't play."

I'd rather be optimistic and disappointed than pessimistic, personally! Thanks for checking out the video!
So don’t set myself up to become what you are, right? Great advice
gonna be the same. nothing to do
Sorry you feel that way! I feel that there's going to be a lot of content on offer here.
Not only is it too early to have a good judgment about the whole expansion content, we also have to see the 7.xx stuff as well. Literally just clickbait. Big reason why stormblood was meh on release but ended up being one of the better expansions because of post expansion stuff. Opposite happened with SHB.
Thanks for the comment!
The story of the expansion seems very boring compared to what we had , I know its a new journey for many years but i loved zenos and the villains up to endwalker , cant see how it would be better here ,
Given that we haven't seen any of the story yet, I think it's probably hard to say how it will compare, but they are facing an uphill battle setting up for the new overarching story for sure!
@@sharlayanforum well we can hope that we get to see some cool plot, interresting villains and great character buildup to it,
@@MikkiZHskDK exactly! I see Dawntrail almost as a sort of ARR-2. It's the start of a whole new setup and a whole new arc that will carry us through the next 10 years of XIV. They have a lot of legwork to do to create something as epic as the Hydaelyn and Zodiark saga, but I have faith that they can do it again.

@@justinloosbrock6436 I'd rather enjoy the things I like regardless of what people on the internet say than pretend I'm not going to because that's what someone else thinks is right.
Your points about 'a lot of content' and 'new story' are there in every single expansion lol. Every expansion has that list of content and a unique story. People are overhyping stuff for no reason. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited as I am for every new expansion, but come on. No need for this hyperbole.
I get that, but you're kind of missing an important piece. This is the beginning of a completely new story, every expansion for the past 10 years has been a part of the same overarching story, which concluded in Endwalker. This is a new story.
Yes, all of these pieces of content have been offered at some time before. We've never has them all at once in an expansion.
Thanks for checking it out

Thanks for the comment!
It really is it makes the WOW community look positive in comparison, in the FF community it is so hellbent on wilful ignorance.

You're allowed to dislike the MSQ. It doesn't make the expansion bad. Especially a week in.
Thanks for the comment!
I think Dawntrail is way overhyped. I’m hoping to be proven wrong
A little cautious optimism is never a bad thing
Yeah I don’t want to get upset.
2 channel dye
it's not overhyped
@@davibergamin5943and you can combine hats with glasses now
@davibergamin5943 it's not overhyped, it's sad. Numerous MMOs over a decade ago, even F2P ones have 3-4 dye channels. FF14 is still catching up on many common features and other QoL. Took until 6.x to add duration timers to buffs/debuffs in party list....
Dawntrail is shaping up to be the expansion where everyone quits the game. The hype has never been this low, with everyone complaining about the simplicity of jobs. It's clear they're not being truthful, as the expansion is launching with the same content as every other one. They've promised 1.5 rewards and have already failed at that. If you thought 6.0 was bad, you have no idea what's coming. Maybe it's time to give World of Warcraft a try.
I disagree with your assesment, and I think its made mostly in bad faith, but you're totally entitled to feel that way if you'd like to! Thanks for leaving a comment!
So it will be like EW the most successful expansion and with the highest player number, I wonder if the server will handle
