no kidding. back then when we learnt of odin's involvement again we were like.. oh i guess everything is odin now. he has a hand in almost every story.. whether he likes it or not lol
29:16 : "Oh god I ate too much...blaaaurgh" Well done once again. These are probably some of the best recaps out there. Before these videos it was kind of difficult to find just straight up story summaries for FFXI. You're doing god's work!
While they were technically part of the Wings of the Goddess release schedule, I would very much appreciate it if you would also do a story recap of the Abyssea expansions. I vaguely remember what little story bits I can recall being intriguing, and the actual conclusion being my favorite moment of the entire game (that I played). But those memories are well over 10 years old, so I'm not sure how accurate they are.
great recap. this truly was one of the hardest stories to follow while playing it at time of release because it was spread over 3 years and main story came every other patch.. but it was my fave story because of how much it ties into the games history and the game itself.
So, major stories left is Seekers of Adoulin and Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. Won't lie, I'm more excited to see what comes out of your look of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. For anyone else reading, XI is an experience on its own.
Looking at your video really does sum up the pacing of the expansion. A lot of build up to the reveal, then we gotta wrap this up as soon as possible! I really wish more time had been given to the events after the Odin reveal. Characters just seem so erratic in their behavior because of it. I also think if they spent time fleshing out the battle between the two timelines, it might have been less confusing.
Yeah it was definitely interesting to write and edit this because it sort of feels like theres 3 or 4 seasons of setup and lead up just for the finale to be a 2-episode special
I played WotG when it first came out. It was kind of confusing with all the starting and stopping with releases. But I kind of got use to that in Chains of Promathia when missions were level capped. Back before gear would sync down and you had to have level appropriate gear at every cap tier. And you'd get stuck on a section where nobody could help. So you'd end up going back and forth in the story helping and progressing it got kind of hard to keep track of what was going on in the story. I later went back through the entire story of FFXI with a friend who hadn't played it while we were waiting between FFXIV's Stormblood and Shadowbringers expansions. Wings of the Goddess was probably my favorite expansion. I enjoyed the main story, but it was the nations' side stories that really did it for me. Which I get why you wouldn't want to do them because they are full stories unto themselves. I also like how beastmen in the past would drop bottled pixies and if enough people release them in the past, they would start showing up in the present. It was always awesome when you died out in the middle of nowhere and a pixie wanders by and raises you.
@@sharlayanforum Yeah, the time travel aspect is neat to be able to see events from the war, but when players can actually influence events in the present by doing things in the past like that is really cool.
This actually remains my favorite expansion (partially because it’s the expansion that I joined the game on) but it was good to revisit the adventure that meant a lot to me!
Thanks for the recap. I hate to admit it but I never fully grasped WotG's story due to how it was slowly released over time and you having to hop between main scenario and nation missions. I recall actually quitting and returning to the game during this period so that definitely didn't make things easier with the huge gap.
Thank you for this work again; as I furiously take as many notes as possible in my attempt to make an accurate tarot deck lol (wish me luck) Will you be doing any of the other stories, such as Seekers of Adoulin; and the three mini plots; Kupo d'etat; crystalline prophect, shantotto ascencion? any job related plot lines? anything else (mostly just out of curiousity)
I hope to do all of them eventually. Time is much less available to me right now, but I think the next thing I'll tackle will be the 3 add-ons/abyssea, then SoA
@@sharlayanforum Please do it! Without much free time in hands, with XI not having localization ( thus making it super expensive in my country's currency ) and with ADHD making reading extremelly hard for me, XI's story was something i was having a lot of trouble getting into, your videos are helping me a lot to get into the story! Im loving it a lot, hope you're having fun making them too, thank you for them.
Ill take the hate on this: This aside from ToAU was probably one of my favorite expansions.. though when I was playing it younger (og beta player) I never had the chance to appreciate it until later and they didnt release it all in one go.
No hate here! I think that WoTG in a vacuum is one of the more interesting a well paced stories in FFXI, it just suffered a lot from the timing of its release and the way that they released it.
Wings of the Goddess is when I quit ffxi for over 8 years. I completely hated it in every conceivable way. Later on, I would enjoy the story as a whole as I breezed through it
This seems a very confuted story. FFXI walked so FFXIV could run, fall, explode then run again (Though also it could be just the 00s,they were a weird time)
You're definitely not wrong. I think SE wanted to try something different, but WoTG flopped pretty hard and is a big part of what many cite as the "killing blow" to FFXI. Thanks for checking out the video!
Odin's intention for his shenanigans is inadvertently revealed in Rhapsodies. This really gives this story an interesting feel.
Odin is truly a fan of shenanigans
@@sharlayanforum You're not kidding. Your chapter title for that section really cracked me up lol.
Two ffxi lore legends talking casually in UA-cam comments is the cross over episode I was hoping for
no kidding. back then when we learnt of odin's involvement again we were like.. oh i guess everything is odin now. he has a hand in almost every story.. whether he likes it or not lol
Would you be so kind to explain the intention behind Odin's involvement ? Or redirect me to a video that talks about it ?

I made these because I couldn't find a concise recap, so I decided "who else but me?"
Thanks for the kind words!
Finally! Thank you for theae videos, I've really enjoyed them!
Tha k you so much for the kind words! This one was a big one.. WotG is a lot to get through!
Yeahhhhh Buddy!!! I was waiting for this. Glooks homie!
😎
Another great recap. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks a ton!

I'll consider it for sure!

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it was definitely an interesting choice to deliver it the way they did
Thanks so much for these story recaps from this remarkable game. It inspired me to resub and do a fresh start.
Happy to help! Enjoy!

Great recap! Reading the white slides at the end hit me right in the heart. Lol
It felt real because it was real.
Great summary! Looking forward to more FFXI content!
Glad you enjoyed!

Vana'dirl as we know it is fake was a hell of a twist. Basically, dynamis is the reality and thats depressing.
Yay!!! I hope you do seekers id love to hear the story of it as I never got a chance to play past the first initial missions
If the people want seekers, then seekers it will be!
Awesome ty!

I think that was a common experience for a lot of people back in the day. :)

Another dope video. Good shit. 🤝
Thank you my friend!
Great video! Unsure if there is any interest but hoping for a story recap of the Abyssea series.
I've seen a couple comments!
Are you going to Rhapsodies of Vana'diel?
If the people demand it

I was so happy when I git my 2tb stick. Only reason I lasted so long was because of fast internet.
Are you covering the Addons next or jumping straight to Adoulin?
TBD! I have some requests to do the add-ons so I may knock those out first
For a story with a lot of silly anime BS characters, WotG has some really fun stuff in it. Nice vid bud 😊
It's definitely not completely terrible, but it was definitely a mess when it was current lol

Why does this seem like a confused story?
