  • www.sailrite.co... The Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl is great for sewing when a sewing machine is not available or when sewing with a sewing machine is not feasible. The Speedy Stitcher comes with waxed twine, but many Sailrite customers want to know if lighter sewing machine threads, like V-69, V-92, or V-138, can be used. Oftentimes lighter thread would look better than large twine in certain applications. See this demonstration on how to use the Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl with Sewing Thread.

I used a sewing machine needle to use upholstery thread to repair a canvas wall tent. It worked perfectly! Love this tool!

I just sewed the back end of a sole onto some house slippers of my girlfriends. Worked perfectly. Was using this smaller needle as well. I definitely recommend this stitcher to my friends.

super glue or contact cement work pretty good and then sew over that --- much easier stronger and faster will also water proof seam and be there for the long run. great info. sailright the most helpful folks around today and great products.

They have a no.4 needle for use with "sewing machine" thread that makes it easier to use these smaller threads. If you attatch a needle or in this case a bread tie or anything that will fit, to the tag end, it makes it easier to get through the loop.

I've been wanting a smaller needle than the 2 that came with my Speedy Stitcher. I've just ordered the #4 5246 needle.

I use a regular machine needle for my speedy stitcher to sew with thread. They fit in the speedy stitcher as well.
    Great video.

I just did the same tonight, sewing machine needle from a Pfaff. Wasn't sure if it would work but it did! I also tied a curved upholster needle to the loose end. Made the work WAY easier!

What I’ve done is thread a harness needle to the working end to act as a fid. In a tight space like a shoe, it saved me some headaches.

That's a great tip! It can really come in handy in tight spaces.

Yes, regular sewing machine needles fit, though the ones I have are a tighter fit. I wouldn't force the sewing machine needle clear into there, just in case the needle breaks. Might be tough to get the remaining piece out.

Would it make things easier if you put a curved needle on to the free end of the tread so you can get it through the loop?

I would use a small metal crochet hook to pull the thread thru the loop inside. Much easier than trying to use your fingers!

Thank you looseparts. Your words have helped me cope with the stress and fear. Ever since I saw this video over 2 years ago, I have not been able to sleep. I'm heavily medicated and enormous warts have developed between my toes and forehead. They ooze green puss every second Wednesday following a full moon cycle. I also have nightmares about shoe knots eating my feet. Anyway, enough about me, God bless you for your kind words, they're etched in my mind forever.

I dreamed I ate a giant marshmallow last night.
When I woke up this morning my pillow was gone.
I would get those warts looked at if I was you.
      Just saying...

Is this better than the "Awl for all"? This has the handy looking tension system. By the way, i'd put the knot outside of the shoe so i won't feel it in my heel.

So its not just me... its a major pain in the ass operation. It has to be threaded every hole. How would you do that in the front of the shoe? Do they make a needle thats sort of hooked so you could pull thread through without threading it. I have a blow out by my big toe and will have to stitch it "blind" by feel.

I don't see why not. It's the same lock stitch style a sewing machine does.

You should use tweezers to manipulate the tread.

Wow. Great explanation of how to use this tool. There are other videos, but this one taught me what I need to know and also taught me why my fine (non-waxed) nylon thread was not working with the big needle that came with the stitcher... I will order the right needle and thread - Thanks !

The grove on a sewing needle is called a shaft.

    • @albertoromero214
      @albertoromero214 4 роки тому

no, a shaft is the needle's base opposed the point, you are refering to the groove or needle thread channel.

Wouldn't that final knot rub into your skin and cause a blister ? The bacteria in the old shoe would then penetrate through the open wound and infect the whole foot. Next thing you know it 's hello gangrene, goodbye foot.

It's a tiny knot. The shoes you wore today prolly have several manufacture's knots in them and you're ok, aren't you? I wouldn't worry.
