A JIG for PERFECT workpiece alignment on CNC

- Squaring workpieces on the CNC and finding a perfect zero in their corner is not always easy. But it is very important, especially with double-sided jobs.
In this tutorial we make a jig to nail the placement of the workpiece every single time!
Very cool! I may make mine with slight counterbores on the screw holes so that the screws are recessed and my top plane is always clear of hardware.
Great idea and nicely explained. Thanks!
Very good video. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, a very good idea!
Well done
Thank you. I do suggest you try Valchromat for your next waste board. It's more expensive than MDF and I find it better.
Thanks. I have some valchromat test pieces (small ones) but I can't get large ones as easily as MDF (not in the equivalent of Home Depot) around here.
Great video, we share a few setup ideas. My waste board is 25mm MDF with threaded inserts every 50mm and I've also made quite a few 90 degree and straight fences similar to yours. My machine doesn't have a home memory, each time it is turned on the starting 0 point is where it is at the time it is started.
Double sided carving has pretty much done my head in as I would prefer to use the threaded inserts or, now that I've seen this video the 90 degree fences. Have you done a VCarve double sided demonstration using your fences? I would very interested to learn how to go about it.
Kind Regards.
Thanks. My machine remembers the previous zero but if I do another project I'll have to find this one back anyway. That's why I write it on the jig then I only have to jog to those coordinates to get the perfect zero of my gig.
Stephan, you can improve accuracy by using some reference pins. 5-8mm brass/steel/aluminium dowels basically that go into holes drilled into both the wasteboard and into your 90degree jig. The jig will be in exactly the same place every time.
I think you will have some error even with the tapered screws you are using. Ofc it depends what you are cutting whether the error matters or not.
I'm thinking about making my next jig larger so I can reference it with a 90° square to the frame of the machine before tightening the screws (flat ones this time). But as I work with wood and in my un-heated garage, just the dilatation of the piece I work on is probably already larger than the accuracy of the jig. ;)
Parfait !
Great video, do you have the vcarve files available for download?
Thanks. I can send by email if you want (but I must check if I still have them...)
Looks great but I have one question. Why didn't you place the jig as far left, and forward as possible? That would increase the size of project that you can use with the jig.
You're totally correct. However I made this one for the cutting boards, so size was not really a problem and I wanted to keep them about in the center for easier work (and less jog!)
Consider memorizing the jig center as zero point of another coordinate system, for example g55.
Than you can just switch to that coordinate system and tell the machine to go to its zero. The machine will remember all the values for you.
Here is the best explanation i found so far.
