Steely Dan will give you one great song after another. My favorite artist(s) of all time. Continue with any songs off this album, or any other one of their albums even. The next one will be your new favorite, time after time! Nice reaction. Dive deep,ok.
YES! Of all the genres I listen to, all the decades I listen to, Steely Dan is my all time favorite. Who else but Steely Dan would write a song about a bookkeeper’s son in a stand-off with the law? 😂. Next Steely Dan song:”THE CAVES OF ALTIMIRA”; it’s about caveman writings on the wall. Steely is Top notch production, snarky lyrics, jazz, soft rock R&B fusion perfection ❤. Also, “JACK OF SPEED” 🔥🔥🔥
Check their album Aja, many of their greats there. They were the Kings in the 70s and 80s. Great analysis! I never knew what most of their songs were about, but had fun listening. My favorite line was “Is there gas in the car? Yes there’s gas in the car” from the song Kid Charlemagne” tells the story of the rise and fall of a San Francisco drug manufacturer. In a 2000 online chat with the BBC, Becker revealed that the lyrics were based on Owsley Stanley, a famous LSD chemist of the 1960s known professionally as Bear.
I know you know a lot of music is a metaphor. Or even partly Sophism…look that one up. So I don’t think he did his Dad in… I think he ripped him off 4’ ‘back in Oregon…’ that parts true (Google “Sophism” and it’s original Greek Thinking). I think he sees himself as just an average guy, a pedestrian if you will. Just anybody like you and I are. And I think it’s just all in his head hence my reference for metaphor. I think he’s ready to explode inside but he ‘can do this all night’ long or forever if the case might be. But he also has his gun ready in case he needs to use that. Choose your own metaphor his singing the song so it could just be that is a blabbermouth too! And all the people laughing and staring at him because he’s a dick and so no matter where he goes that’s going to happen and so they live in his head rent free. I do appreciate the obvious that he is hold up in a standoff is that the word you were thinking of standoff? Anyway I’m enjoying several of these reactions to music, old music really but if it’s not my very favorite it is one of the very top 10. It’s nice to see someone really into the groove too, man…just like at the end of The Big Lebowski (Jeff Bridges)when he sitting at the bar with Cowboy who is in the credits as ‘The Stranger’(Sam Elliott) he says…The Stranger: “I like your style…”. The Dude.”Yeah, I like your style too, man…Got the ‘Cowboy’ thing going on.”
Maybe it was an accident, Im thinking he didnt want that kind deed on record, no conviction, no record, Dont take me alive. I guess to ask is the only way to know.
perfect analysis, you are correct its dark, and the book keepers son is crazy as fuck!!!
Please don't pause when Larry Carlton ("Mr. 335") is doing his thing on the guitar
More Steely Dan please and thank you! They don’t have a bad song. ☮️❤️😎

Steely Dan is not a he. It’s just the name of the band.
It’s a sex toy (vibrator) in a book by William S. Burroughs called Naked Lunch.
Suicide by Cop.
