Welcome to the Salty Spitoon how tough are ya? How tough am I? I played the Sweet Child O' Mine Solo. Yeah, SO? On an acoustic without a cutout. Right this way sir.
I'm 48 and started playing the guitar in 2020. After 3 weeks and about an hour a day practicing, I finally got all the notes right. Now for rhythm and speed which will probably take three times as long. I don't care. I managed Comfortably Numb solos too. After this I'll go for the Sultans of Swing solos and then I'll be a happy man. Thanks for putting these videos online. Much appreciated!
I learned the whole song from your videos in a week. Watched one video a day and only practiced it throughout the video. Your videos are amazing thank you
Thank you so much. I was learning this for an upcoming gig and I was stuck on that fast part. You are the hand that pushed me on through thanks again man! Great job!
This tutorial is so good, I've tried to learn this solo 2 other times though different videos and I've given up within 5 minutes, but this is amazing, Thank you for this
Wow you really got this down to every little single nuance, note per note. You are awesome at showing this. I WILL GET THIS. This is like my utmost favorite G & R song of all time and my goal is to be able to play it. I taught myself how to play guitar by listening to Peter Frampton albums so hopefully it will help me. My new challenge. Thank-You for being an awesome teacher and posting this lesson!

Thank you Carl, I have a lot of fun to play it. I am not so bad I thought.😂 Nailed it in 2 hours. Great playing Carl, I am impressed, you can play everything with your Strat and it sounds great. Please keep on the great Work

Great stuff, I must have gone over this a million times, slowed it down to half speed. You did a great job on this one Carl Brown. I will be using my new Drop tune pedal on your most recent post. This had to take you a very long time to put together? Part 6 will be a breeze? Hopefully Thank you so much. Mucho appreciato
He starts teaching the main solo at around 3:35 ... Ironically the solo starts at the same time in the song as well. Just an observation, wonder if this was deliberate 🤔
I use distortion, an overdrive to boost the distortion, and chorus (a bit). Then there's a part where you've to switch in the wah pedal! Then if you want, you can use a compressor pedal to "normalize" the sound. For the last part of the song (where there is the wah) I use the bridge-pick up (in my strato, cause it makes high-middle sounds, more bright!
LocChokingVMorningG I know this is late but I don't think this part is "Accurate" to the way the song is actually played because all the videos I seem has slash started on the high E string and build his way up the neck towards the bends he does in the WAH pedal part ua-cam.com/video/5WrE58T9p4Y/v-deo.html This is one of the only videos I could find of the camera showing the full solo lol.
He said in part 1 that he was gunna do it in E tuning as most people play in that tuning so it's easier for the beginners to learn without changing their tuning as yet.
I kept going back and forth between this. I almost gave up multiple times, barely making any progress. Now, a month later, I can play it. Just need to work on the very, very end where he repeats that lick fast.
Not too much effects but the fast part of the solo you need to change to the treble pickup and to use a wah pedal to make it sound similar to the recorded version
I have learnt several solos with you, thanks a lot!! I wish you would have done this lesson in the right tuning. I have to use my guitar in 440 to practice the solo with you and then switch to my guitar in 430 to play it with the song. Like that, back and forth. :))
I don’t know how but slash really made that simple pentatonic scale hard to play with all that bending and shifting fast. When you learn it though, it’s all worth it.
Don't give up! When I first started this was the first song I tried to learn and failed miserably. Instead of giving up, I practiced (and learned very simple songs which gave me motivation and hope) and now everything isn't as hard as it used to be. I feel that in the 2 years that I have been playing I feel more accomplished and ahead of where someone else or even myself would be at that same point. (I love guitar so I was playing it almost constantly). My only advice is to not only learn new songs but learn other stuff like drills and scales to improve technique. Sorry for the long essay :P
Mitch Kincaid, Well stated my friend, well stated. I've learned in my 25+ years of playing that, it's kinda like Exercising and working out, after a while you'll hit a plateau effect, so in exercise we use "MuscleConfusion" to remedy this. With guitar, just change it up a little, learn something else and come back to it.
I am finding that I can't hold the note on a single string long enough to hammer out 3 or 4 notes like you do. How can I do that? By the way, your video is enormously helpful.
Cant believe nobody has given you the correct answer yet. Yes you want to hammer on harder, but you also want to "flick" off the strong for your pull offs. It's almost like you're picking the string with your fretting hand instead of your picking hand. All the people who are good at doing pull offs do this.
