I feel like gamefreak is going through an actual redemption arc themselves. Arceus was a very well made game for their first attempt at that style, the story was well made too. They had that survey asking people what they want from pokemon and even with scarlet and violet they're seemingly improving more and more

I very much disagree. I had fun with the game the first time, but I have about as much desire to ever report to laveton or find the easiest research tasks to do or go to that “forest” with kleavor that feels smaller than any forest in any Pokémon game because they had to cram it in the corner or see the Roblox tier terrain or hear the soulless town music again as I have desire to play bakugan battle brawlers on the wii.
I don't feel like they've really necessarily been through a bad spot, but moreso working and evolving with the new tech. Every main switch game seems to be building and expanding on the last and as they gather more resources and knowledge both team a and b that rolls out these games back to back massively improve. I just see it the same way the original games were. We start with Red and Blue and eventually end up with Black and White for the 2d era. Then we had X and Y that eventually ended with Ultimate Sun and Moon for that fairly short semi 3d era. And now we start with Sword and Shield for the actual 3d era with it so far leading to Scarlet and Violet, an apparent open world co-op 3d Pokemon game. I'm very curious to see what the final Pokemon game for the Switch era will look like and hope I can look back at Sword and Shield as humble beginnings the same way I look at Red and Blue of how this crazy roller coaster of a franchise manages to keep going and expanding while still allowing anyone at any point in their life be able to jump back on and off whenever they need to.
@@BladeBloodTearI kinda agree, but it doesn't make SS or legends any better. I didn't play SS, but it seems like the only real "new 3d era" aspects of it are the wild area and maybe dlc areas. Arceus was a good trial for this kind of game, and i guess i'm glad we aren't going into scarlet/violet without something like this first, but still, that doesn't change how rough legends is.
So... this comment didn't age all too well. Like, Game Freak is legendary in the industry for their TERRIBLE code optimization, but HOT DAMN. That new game is NOT indicative of the highest-grossing franchise in the world...
Pokemon Company has enough cash to fund something bigger and bolder then Breath of The Wild, and considering these games are how they introduce entire merchandise lines to consumers, you'd THINK they'd be putting their best foot forward. But I suppose when you make the kind of money they make, you really don't have to TRY anymore...

Good game… bad graphics. Honestly I don’t care too much about graphics and fps, but those aspects of it are pretty disappointing. At least the gameplay is fun.
This video made me want to get back into Pokémon again. Showing a even amount of good and bad into these games while showing still having hope into this franchise brings nostalgic back into these games. Great work man.
Man this game was what i needed during a really low point in my life. It was so much fun to play the main story.
I just wish the dex completion wasn’t so tedious, would have been my favorite game of the year. Now i just dont even want to go back to it. Hopefully Arceus 2 works on that.
They made little purple balls that you have to scour the world for to complete the dex and then made a plant that also looks like a little purple ball and put it everywhere. I wonder how many collective hours would have been saved between everyone playing if bugwarts weren’t so stupid.

Legends Arceus gives you a real sense of adventure and finally shows you if a pokemon is shiny. I hope these two ideas are brought to Scarlet and Violet

That part near the end feels about not knowing where to go in life and what to do now must be something everybody (that isnt handed a career by their parents or something) has to face, and I feel like if you slip up even partially you can be dragged into doing something that you do only because you have to do it to survive and end up coming out of life entirely unfulfilled. But I'm pretty sure everybody get's at least something from life, anything from art, or liking your job or family or something, which is pretty cool. in conclusion cool pokemon game

There is a really good theory I've heard where scarlet and violet were being created back near the end of x and y because of a trip too spain many game freak workers when to. And that ledgends arceus was just a taste of what scarlet and violet will bring which brings me hope not to mention the tailers of the game look great!

Honestly, I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. I wasn’t having fun with Pokémon anymore ever since I played platinum or PMD explorers of sky (I didn’t get to play black or white or X and Y). But now with Arceus, it’s giving me a little hope again.
Im really sad that scarlet and violet really took quite a lot of unfortunate steps back from arceus' advancements

A lot of these things were not advancements, they were just different. At least mechanically.
Catching everything out of battle and over reliance on Speed both have major issues that can't really be resolved without going back to how things were or becoming empty. The open area aspect just led to less set pieces and more empty space (An common issue with open areas/worlds.) as this leads to less individual focus as that area has to be covered, done, and tested.

coming back to this video and you at the end being scared of the new games aged interestingly.... because in my eyes, scarlet and violet, dlc, jank, and all have some of the best story, pokemon designs, and environment yet!

What my theory is is that they started making Scarlet and Violet, got scared that people wouldn’t like it and so made Legends: Arceus with the same engine as a test
A theory that falls completely flat when you realize Legends arceus started development before SWSH even came out...

After the last few games gave me lower hope in the franchise legends came out and became my second favorite game in the franchise. Only beaten out by black and white due to nostalgia. Now I hope scarlet and violet are as great too

you captured really well how I've been feeling too about the franchise. I really fell out of love with it with X and Y cos it just felt hollow.. but Arceus really felt like it brought back to life all the things I loved about it. No its not perfect but this is the game I imagined as a little kid. Flying and riding around having my own little adventure inside the world. I'm excited for Scarlet and Violet cos it looks like they learned a lot while making Arceus but... god yeah I wish they would take some time on the games ^^; I want them to shine as bright as the big boy games because its world deserves all the love and care

Dude Arceus was a breath of fresh air. I’m kind of a newbie when it comes to pokemon, and my first game was Pokemon sun and moon (which was so hard because i had never played any other pokemon game like.. ever) and then sword and shield came along and i was super excited.. and then totally and utterly disappointed. The characters were so one dimensional, the story was like a disney movie plot, and the animations were terrible. And then the holy grail came along, ON MY BIRTHDAY. I will never forget January 28th of 2021, despite it being one of the worst birthdays ever, I still had legends arceus and goddamn. That game is GOOD. I ended up needing a new switch since mine was a first gen 6 year old one and there became dust buildup, and it wiped all my progress (was devastated because i spent so long catching all the legendaries) but it gave me a chance to play it again 10 months later. So worth it. Awesome video, completely agree.

Been playing this game consistently since May. It was a game that greatly challenged me as I have never done boss battles like that before. But it’s extremely satisfying when you do defeat the Pokémon. Flying around and then dropping from the sky is fun.
It was different but it was overall fun to play.
Just saying, Arceus' production and actually being good was due to a studio split in gamefreak. One studio works on one game the other works on another game. This effectively doubles their time to make games, despite lack of manpower.

I think one reason why Legends Arceus is so rough around the edges is because Game Freak was probably working on Scarlet and Violet at the same time.
