    Herbalism is an excellent skill to have. Wish more people studied on the subject.

      Oh my goodness. I totally agree! I’ve only pretty much self studied for 20 years but I would love to dive deeper in the next year with an herbalism course!!!!

    My uncle gone for several years now, always had a big supply of echinacea tincture made by fall. I didn’t realize then how lucky I was to have a few bottles in the fall to get me through the winter months. It tasted awful but also kept me healthy. I can remember him telling me that he called his son several times to take him root hunting. Once collected he made his medicines. It’s the ways of the old days and much better for us.

    I can appreciate a person not giving their children alcohol. At the same time, I think about what our pharmaceutical industry makes available for children!

    I’m happy to see you faired well through storm 😊 everything has stayed so green here for the whole summer because of the rain from the storms. It looks really green there also. When I see green growing everywhere it’s my reminder that no matter the storm God is still in control. My girlfriend of 61 years and I are anxiously awaiting my Polk plants to fade to harvest the roots for tincture. She’s coming down from Kansas so we can have a canning-athon 😊 I’ve got a new bull getting ready to butcher so we’re going to can what’s in the freezer to make room for new. This old dog is going to learn a new trick and butcher him myself with the teachings of a seasoned butcher Mr Norman. I’m so excited! What a blessing you were this morning! Thank you!!

    I'm sure this has been asked. I'm new to getting serious about herbalism. But are the seeds in the cone? And when do you harvest the seeds so you can start a new crop in a different location?

    • @justdigitfarms
      @justdigitfarms  5 місяців тому

      Yes the seeds are in the cone.
      I let them dry out on the plant and then clip them off and shake the little seeds out

      Turkey Tail,Chaga,lions mane,Relshi, Cordyceps,Maitak, Shitake, are very healing for serious conditions and if you put them all together with some organic coffee.. you will have a Super Food... just dry and powder them. But you must buy these organic and learn how to harvest and I.D them... but a very good Herbalist will carry all these
      God Bless ! Learning about these things are very needed in these days...

    What size jars do you use to store your tinctures?
    What type of apple cider vinegar do you use, if I can’t use alcohol. Does the apple cider vinegar produce a tincture that is just as potent as the alcohol tincture?

    • @justdigitfarms
      @justdigitfarms  Рік тому

      I store in a mason jar CC and keep in a cool dark place
      But it’s really nice to store tinctures in amber colored dropper bottles.
      Use Braggs apple cider vinegar with the mother.
      I don’t think it’s as potent as when made with alcohol but still very effective

    Now I just bought some root already chopped up off line I can tincture that as well right? I also have other herbs like elecampane calendula etc can I tincture all herbs at once or do they need to be single? Also is it supposed to taste like vodka I made a tinture last year with red clover and it was very vodka tasting is that normal??

    • @justdigitfarms

    Tracy I have two packs of echinacea seed to plant. Can I put the seed in the ground now or would it be better to wait until spring? I also want a lime light hydrangea for our Anniversary but not sure about the planting process.

    • @justdigitfarms
      @justdigitfarms  4 роки тому +1

      I would wait until spring to plant my echinacea seed. And I would start them in seed trays first and then transplant.
      Limelight hydrangea is a panicle hydrangea and needs full sun. Once it’s established it’s pretty heat tolerant. The best time to plant is fall. Limelight’s get about 6’-8’ tall. Little lime gets about 4’-5’. Just add some good soil conditioner to your planting hole (black cow, mushroom compost, etc) 1/2 and 1/2 mixture. 1/2 your native soil and 1/2 soil conditioner
      Water in very well and water every 2-3 days your first 2-3 weeks.
      Basically that’s it! They are pretty easy to grow and beautiful!

      You really don't want to use anything over 100 proof. Its the perfect ratio of water to alcohol to extract water soluble compounds and alcohol soluble compounds in the plant. Ever clear, if your resulting tincture is not properly diluted back to 50% water and 50%alcohol can really hurt you or whoever takes it. More isn't always better. Just use 100 proof vodka, would get the most extracted from the plant and you won't risk hurting yourself.
