One thing that pisses me off to no end is when a dealer puts their own badges or logos on a vehicle that they sell. I am not a free advertisement billboard for any car dealer, so unless they pay me, which they do not, then it gets removed, usually right in front of them. I bought a brand new car and inspected it. They said they would "detail" the car. I did not see any logos or badges, so I told them that I did not want any added. When they rolled it around for me to drive away, I walked around and saw a newly applied decal for the dealer. I peeled it off and handed it to the salesman.
Every new car I bought, I specifically told them that if they stick any dealer badges or stickers on the car, I will not take delivery until it's gone. Never had any dealer badges
The dealership I bought my car from had one of those license plate covers advertising their company. First thing I did was take that shit off😂 the amount of people I see driving with those things on is crazy
The fact that “GT” “Sport” “Touring” used to mean something back then, now it’s a glorified way to describe an extra 35 HRSPRS and slightly better tires, still garbage wheels though.
Rubber wheel can overheat the metal and warp with pressure. Use brief passes on small sections like one letter at a time and cool the area with a cool damp cloth between passes
I started removing badges and dealership signage back in the 1970s. The difference then was they had holes drilled through the trunk lid to install some of them.
De-badging custom cars always looks good. Something with a lot of work into it like shaved door handles and things like that. De-badging a standard car makes it look like it was wrecked and repaired out of pocket. I’ll never buy a de-badged car.
@Ben-kh4le You know Telsas wear tires considerably faster than a regular passenger vehicle? The tires are also way more expensive. The battery banks are also quite suseptible to temperature swings, significantly lowering the overall battery longevity. Don't even get me started on how fucked up Tesla is as a company and the QC or lack thereof.
And I'll never NOT de-badge my cars, most badging just detracts from the overall form of a cars rear design. Without the branding and the identification the car can become more of its own identity, and can do away with any predispositions some may have of certain brands. I have people compliment my de-badged car all the time and they always guess it's a Audi or a Tesla from the back....nope, Chrysler. Hahaha. If NOTHING else, everyone should be removing the dealer sticker from their vehicles (if it's not utterly ancient)...fuck those guys did they ever pay you to advertise for their business? No? Then fuck em, rip that ugly trash off your car.
WD-40 will dissolve the glue that holds these decals on. Spray a line along the top of the decal, wait 10 minutes and it should come off easily with some fishing line or floss.
Fishing line and a 3M soft rubber eraser wheel on the end of a drill is all you need to successful badge removal. You need the eraser wheel regardless to get the residue off so no point wasting time heating the emblems when the friction from the rubber will remove all adhesive.
It was nice, I bought my first new vehicle and the second day I had it I removed the badges. Never had it been so easy. The adhesive and badges came off with just my fingers. Usually its fighting it with a rubber wheel but not on this truck!
if it's modded I imagine Google wouldn't be able to figure it out so easily. I think badges on modded cars can actually be a symbol of pride like "look at how much more interesting I made this car look when it used to be one of these" if it's a completely stock car without badges it doesn't look clean to me, it looks like you crashed it and didn't bother replacing the badges
Be careful the rubber wheel because if you overheat the paint, it could discolor. Especially white and/or light color paints will brown quickly if you overheat them.
Did this on my truck when an unusually hot day caused one of the decals to come up. Rather than going through the process of replacing it I removed the rest with an old debt card. Little bit of hand buffing got just about the rest off. Since I've replaced the grill there's not a single badge on the exterior and simple appears as a silver truck.
So I have a slightly opposite method to remove the badges. Wait for a cooler evening, then the morning after (while it is still cool), carefully pry the badges off. Often times the metal trunk lid will make the adhesives less sticky on the metal side. So the adhesive stays stuck on the badge and not the car and I usually don't even need to clean off any adhesive. I have been able to remove badging this way for a bit. I should mention I am in Canada so a "cool" Florida morning might still be too warm.
Ive been using a Carl Gustav launcher. Never failed. Never seen any damage behind the decal after using it. Never seen any car left behind the decal to see if its damaged.
I've removed a couple hundred square feet of decals. Used the rubber wheel. USE THE RUBBER WHEEL. The rubber wheel is the best remover by far. No chemical or scraper will come close to being as easy as the rubber wheel. Heat gun doesn't make a difference because the wheel makes it hot with friction. Goof Off cleans the residue adhesive off at the end
Dental floss was the only tool I used to debadge. I don’t understand the need to break out all these tools to remove a couple of badges. People are weird.
I used a heat gun set to like 180° F, but didn't seem quite hot enough and took a lot of elbow grease. Couldn't find right temp online lol. Everyone said use hair dryer, but my heating element failed lol
i remember thinking that debadging my for Ranger would go smoothly only to find that it is installed from the OEM with two plastic studs inserted to holes in the metal
Made me lol a little when he said what not to use.. I can't imagine someone would actually use... Unless they want to practice/test their buffing or body repair skills😝
Whizzy wheel can be very dangerous to those that haven't used one before. You Gotta take the edge off of new ones or it will cut right into the paint in no time.
There is a simpler way. Heat up with hairdryer and carefully remove the badge, most of the adhesive will stay on it and not on the paintwork. Clean with microfibre cloth and windows cleaner
I've always had half a mind to buy a spare P for my Impala, and make it a PIMP-ALA But its glory days are long gone and I'm selling it soon so the joke will never be realized
Meanwhile me, miraculously finding a letter from my cars badge that feel off in the driveway. Doing extensive research on how to fix it, and finding 3M double sided tape for car badges, etc... so far it is holding.
I don't know why but I've always liked car without any symbols, icons, or names on it. I actually use a stitch remover on my cloths to remove brands. I think it might have to do with video games, i think it looks smoother, cleaner.
Rubber wheel messed up my paint... Just use an art eraser. Sure, takes time and a little bit of elbow grease, but at the same time, not everyone has a fully stocked paint booth and buffing tools on standby (or the $300+ to have someone fix the chipped paint). Not claiming that the rubber wheel doesn't work. It absolutely worked wonders at removing the adhesive residue... And my paint at the same time... 😬
Just use waxed dental floss and nothing else. Debadged my car 8 years ago and the area still look flawless. I don’t understand the need for all the tools or hiring a professional.
i was doing uber last weekend and drove a guy home from the hospital that did exactly what the guy in the video said not to do. he used a foldable knife and it ended up snapping shut super fast and sliced his thumb wide open. listen to this guy and dont use blades.
Damn. I was about to pull my badge off with a shocel from WWII. Glad you advised me not too. Close one. Thanks for the info though, i honestly never knew this was a thing.
It's a rubber wheel, they have a bit of a learning curve, but they basically just use friction to heat up the remaining adhesive and strip it off at the same time, while being soft enough to not damage the paint as long as you dont hold it in one spot. Some people also recommend taking the factory finish corners off of them because they can "cut" into the paint by focusing a lot of friction on a small area if you arent careful.
I wish automakers didn't even put badges on cars. It never adds anything of use, and generally makes the car look worse. It's especially egregious when there are extra badges aside from the model name. Nobody cares that it's a 2.0t SE AWD Midnight Black edition, aside from maybe the owner. And they would probably prefer the cleaner look of not having 7 badges on the back of their car.
Only use the rubber wheel on metal, found that out on a plastic hatch on a murano lol

I’ve gotten lucky then. When I asked for no dealer badge’s they didn’t put any on.

Charger badges WILL come off with the use of a pressure washer. Ive turned so many Chargers into Hargers trying to remove dealer decals
good, glad you're getting some chargers off the road
Sitting in Auburn in my semi right now watching your videos. Have to make a trip to you for this on my future vehicles. Love the work. -From Olympia

I love using a rubber wheel 😍 used it to take the decals off my motocycle and had a lot of fun lmao
Facts. Had a 2017 silverado I bought brand new and debadged 2 weeks in and there were 2 rock chips underneath the silverado badge
