    I want to thank you for all the commentary you do.
    I am a disabled person who is on government assistance for a number of years now. I have had to cut back and cut back and cut back due to the prices. Your videos convinced me to go to the food bank.
    I was so surprised, everyone there was so nice and so welcoming they made me feel like I was doing the right thing and I was able to supplement my food budget. FYI when my family found out, I went to the food bank they were horrified “that’s only for homeless people they said,”
    I was very surprised, but I am not going to stop as I feel. It’s really going to help me financially and calorically. So once again thank you for giving me the courage to go to the food bank.

      My husband and I too. With a fixed income, it is getting tough. Mamma Baird helped me take the plunge and I have been so grateful. The food banks have cut back because there are so many more in need with the inflation.

    Our food bank is once a month and is a 45 minute drive from my home. There is one that is only 15 minutes away but it is in a different county and we are not allowed to go there because they only serve people in that county. For those people out there who think some of us are taking advantage or are taking food from people who actually need it, well I need it. I usually go on a Saturday early in the morning. They allow us to go through and pick out what we want. If they are unable to give away all the food by the end of the day, it ends up on pallets in the parking lot for any one who wants to go get it. Last month they had so many 50 pounds bags of red onions that they couldn't give it all away so they ended up in the parking lot sitting in the hot sun. Some times it's 50 pound bags of carrots or potatoes. There is no excuse for this food to go to waste. The shame is in letting it go to waste. I have been given two 50 pound bags of carrots in the last few months. I canned them so we will have carrots all year. I have seen people going through the food bank refuse to take the 50 pound bags of produce, Not me. If they offer it, I take it. I have been hungry too many times in my life to turn down food. For those people who criticize others for going to the food bank, well I just hope you never find yourself in the position of having to go to one. I'm sure the shame would be too much for you.

    I just gotta say 1) you're awesome 2) love your videos 3) I appreciate how you are normalizing going to the food bank. No one should ever feel bad or ashamed for needing help in their times of need.

      I absolutely agree 💯 percent with you bridgetmarden. She also doesn't owe anyone an explanation for anything!!!! She is a wonderful mother that takes care of her children HERSELF with the help of her husband of course. I'm just saying she's not sending them to school, she's home schooling, she takes them with her everywhere she goes so no babysitter can all these naysayers say the same?? I think not, so they all need to take a seat a learn how a "real housewife does the dang thing" usually from scratch!!!!!

      Personally I have not though this isn’t the first lamb I’ve received from them. I have gotten it a few times. They had veal too. I didn’t want to be like I’ll take it all but they gave me stew meat, 5# of ground beef and that lamb. This one I can go three times a month. The other place I can only go one time per month but they give you a decent amount of stuff to get by. I hacked up a watermelon last week lol. The dogs and I ate a lot of it to fit it into the container. Lol 😂

    It’s excellent of you to shine some light on the BB date fiasco because in most cases all it does is cause people to throw away perfectly good food or feel bad if they get some "expired" cans gifted to them.

    • @thelmacampbell2623
      @thelmacampbell2623 Рік тому +1

      Most canned foods last for years, I usually only use BB dates for dairy and meats, use your senses to tell if it's off, can be frozen to prolong quality ... also outdated milk is good in baked breads...

    Hi Carolina! I love your videos. Because of you, I've started going to our local food banks when we need it. I was too embarrassed to go before I started watching you. Back when I was just starting my family, I was working in a dress factory making $3.45 an hour. I signed up for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) because my income was under the guidelines. They provided formula, baby food, milk, dairy products, cereals juices....a lot of food items. The woman told me that if we don't utilize these programs, the government would stop them, say they aren't needed. And it truly helped me feed my family!

    • @mamabairds
      @mamabairds  Рік тому +1

      Oh yay!! That makes me so happy to hear! WIC helped me so much as well! I miss it now that my youngest has aged out of it. Another reason for me needing to start using the food bank! Keep doing what you need to, to be there for your family!! Thanks for being here and all the love and support!

    When I get bell peppers I make roasted peppers too. But this is how I do it to get a good char:
    •I wash them well
    •cut them in half and take off the stem part as close to the stem as possible
    •push them flat (may need to cut rounded parts) on a parchment paper lined jelly roll/cookie sheet-don’t use silicone mat as it is the one thing that is super hard to clean off
    •place them under the broiler and watch like a hawk! I actually sit in front of the oven with tongs and a pot holder in hand.
    •as they char fully take them out and move and/or twist others to a place for better char
    •place charred pieces in a mixing bowl covered with a plate or pie plate.
    •when they are cooled just slip the charred skin off!

    Love the outdoor intro. I bet your children like taking care of the ducks, chickens 🐔 etc. The food bank should be a way to help feed your family. If people find this offensive,that's truly sad 😢 you shouldn't have to explain your reasons for going.

    I'm sorry that people feel the need to pass judgement on how others take care of themselves and/or their families. There is no shame in making sure that you can provide nutritious meals to your family.

    You homeschool your children so you're not going to be able to get a second job or even a first job..... And those that are shaming you for going to a food bank shame on them for not homeschooling their children and having them learn the correct way instead of putting them in public school where they only learn half of what they would do at home school

  • @liztipps8919
    @liztipps8919 Рік тому
