Your absolutely right. If you could use the extra help to get through the week or the month, there should be NO shame or judgment when using whichever resource is available. Some people may not know where to start looking, so the information you provide could be life changing for someone.
I've never been to a food bank, but i have a few elderly neighbors. I do large groceries meal preps every 6-8weeks when at home. I travel for long periods so i like to stock up my freezer once i return. They always would strike up conversations about what army i must be feeding lately. So i explained that it's cheaper for me to do batch freezer meals. I also have a pear tree in my yard that i process into fruit jam and desserts. So i bought some food grade gloves and put out a little free sign up by the mailboxes since the mailboxes are all on my property saying just knock if interested. After that i started adding 4 extra single servings of different items into my meal preps and ask them if they'd be interested for free of course. It's just a little index card with the couple options. Apparently 1 woman does go to the food bank because she's on a fixed income and her budget os tight, but sometimes she gets things she doesn't know what to do with or it's a lot of random items. She'll ask if i have ideas or if i could incorporate it. When i was going on my long trip I knew they could use it so i put up everything on the index card to clear out the stores i had. Their faces lit up when they came over for pick up. I figure better to be enjoyed than getting frost burn and being thrown out when I finally return. At least after 7 years of living here im connecting with my neighbors, but i wish it wasn't due to them struggling. Im starting to think maybe i need a tiny garden.. I've never really tried to grow anything...the pear trees i have were there when i bought the house. So yeah now im going down the rabbit hole of youtube homestead and gardening videos. We'll see what happens 😅

@ashleighdavison7950 I'm old (67) and not used to the chaos of 3 Littles. She was so patient with them. I know I would've been way less patient, unless I saw the humor and was laughing my butt off. It's fun when it's someone else. They were good, just funny to watch.

Those horses came running when they saw the kids! What a fun thing to let them feed the horses. Fun at the grocery store too, kids all got to pick out some stuff. Wow, GREAT choices for the cowboy candy, I bet that vinegar is the bomb!!

we only have one food bank in our area and you can only go once a week, but as far as meat goes you choose from a lb of hot dogs or 1 llb of burger

During Walmart back to school they mark down their marker sets to only .50 cents. I would take advantage of this every year and stock up. Imagine how many you would have for only $8. Enough for the year. Same w crayons. If it's not back to school season, Dollar tree. Even at $1.25 they have a huge craft and school section. Their kids markers are good quality and cheap enough to get us thru until the next Walmart sale.
We find Saturday they dump all being it's open Tuesday and Saturday and no one goes Saturday so we get extremely high load and we feed our elder man across from our home he's looking good . Skin and bones to much now he's happy.
I ended up getting a flat of a very spicy pepper. (Don't remember the name. Lol). Last year. I ended up making cowboy candy and it's a new favorite. Easy to can and delicious.

That’s awesome that you got a $25 gift card for doing the survey! We have that same type of grocery store but it’s called Jewel where I live in the Chicagoland area! I a,ways like to check out this clearance section too you had a lot more little areas of clearance mine usually only has one! I told my husband about the cowboy candy he might like to try it! He likes to make his own hot sauces!

When I knew I had just enough Pepper's for cowboy candy and I took all the seed's out for there a big deal to use on them I sliced up a few onion's to add them into the mix and wow I do it every time now.

Your grocery store adventure reminded me of me with my three boys when they were young 🥰. Your store looks so inviting and roomy. Our stores here are packed with people and there is barely enough room to fit two carts in the aisles. Some of our stores have more than half self-checkouts while others have none - weird.
Most of our stores tried going all self checkout. It failed miserably. They have a section with small areas for people with just a few items. Now they have a person on every open lane (still rarely more than three). They won’t pack your groceries anymore. And you have to bring bags or buy paper bags.
have you thought getting your kids their own deit cards?
theres several options for all age groups that ;et them spend amounts you set saving options and they help kids make more grown up decisions
you can put so much in their accounts and tell them this has to last all week or all month but you have to buy your school supplies and clothes and pay your cell phone from it
remind them if they spend it on other stuff they dont get more money in account til next allowance
Forgive me if I’m overstepping.. my son struggled with a speech issue for years. He still does sometimes, we got him on a speech iep & it seemed to help wonders, but again he still struggles. I was wondering if there are any exercises you do with your kids? Since you homeschool I figured you might be a little more educated on the subject than me..
My kids are signed up for speech therapy now. To help with their sounds. I'm sorry but I'm not any help. Once we start going to that and I hear how they are helping them, then I'll be more helpful to you!
You can also freeze dry extra onions and turn them into onion powder :)
Do you ever watch a channel on here called Homestead Corner? She has a whole playlist of canning and some of her recipes look really good and some are unique. She has a strawberry lemonade that she cans, and it looks really delicious. My food banks always give us canned peaches and even though peaches are delicious, I don't like to just sit and eat canned peaches every day, so I'm going to make some peach salsa and maybe some peach pie filling with them. I haven't seen anyone use canned peaches to make their canned salsa, they are all done with fresh peaches, but I don't see any reason why I couldn't make it with canned peaches.

Yesterday this guy my son know drives a food delivery truck that at times has food people done what. So since my son works on his car he goes to see if he needs any of it or it goes to the dump. So last night my son brought me over 12 dozen eggs and 6 half gallon cartons of oat milk. Once before this guy gave me 19 double boxes of life cereal. So far l have handed out 3 cartons of eggs to people l know. I have the milk in my freezer.

I didn't really handle the peppers too much. Just held the stem while I cut them and then used my knife to slide them off the cutting board. Minimal contact!
