I have to tell you, I tried pasta carbonara for supper tonight mainly because I had seen Meg make it. I had some whole wheat pasta and was given some duck eggs and was trying to make something using both. It was delicious. I added kale and snow peas from the garden, along with some bacon ends, and it was a whole meal. My husband loved it, so thank you Meg!
🙋🏼♀️🕊. Lillie is so interested in what ever is happening. Taking part enthusiastically. So sweet, love watching her ,and the boys grow, 💞🕊 you both are beautiful parents.. blessings to your family 🍀💞🕊🍀💞🕊🍀💞🕊
When we harvest our garlic, any bulbs that are “iffy” are peeled and frozen in jars. If you take a clove or two out 5 or 10 minutes to thaw a bit before you need it, you just mash it and put it in your cooking. Also we make Lebanese Garlic sauce - which is basically garlic mayo.
Remembering when Meg was pregnant and sitting out planting your 1st garden amazing what has been learned and the soil improvement that you have achieved shows in this garlic harvest...kudos
Dearest Hollar Family-It just brings old Grandma Jenny so much joy to watch you working together, being real and adorable, seeing your farm grow- dang what a fabulous orchard/botanical wonderland, God’s Own Garlic! I’m a UA-cam addict and y’all are my favorite people-just love you so much’❤
I've been binge watching your videos for the last couple of days and I cant get enough of your channel. Meg is such a hard worker. Were so looking forward to finding some land so we can start our journey. You guys stay blessed and keep expanding that land. Stay safe and god bless.
You have inspired me. I have bamboo in my backyard and my neighbors have a ton in their yard. I am going to cut some down dry it and build my own fence to block out the neighbors from seeing what I am doing in my yard. They have called the city on me for having pigs that I don't have, they called and said my new shed was not to code that was a 6 month fight and a bunch of other stuff. I can't afford to buy a fence so thank you for the inspo!
You are seeing the fruits of your labour with producing your compost Ben. You have improved your soil no end. Every time one of you says “grow”, including Buggie, I follow up with ‘and be fruitful’.
As a suburban gardener I’m using a wire shelf in the garage to dry my garlic with a stand fan, the garage back door open and the garage door raised a touch for ventilation. The garage has never smelled so good.
Meg probably already does this, but with the "hurry up" garlic just peel the individual cloves and then freeze them. For recipes I'll use a grater and just grate up the froze cloves instead of chopping.
@@gretaknebel8495 Yes your ice will taste like garlic. I keep mine in my meat freezer. Not my kitchen freezer. So if you don't have an extra freezer....beware.
My friend in Northern Minnesota processes quite a bit of their harvest by grinding and freezing in small packages for easy use in cooking. Love the Garlic Harvest!
That's a beautiful garlic harvest!!! Every once in a while I'll hear someone say they hate garlic. I'm thinking their cooking must be pretty bland. I use garlic in almost everything, definitely meats scream for garlic. I even slice a clove in my veggies sometimes. Garlic lowers cholesterol you know!! It's so good for you!
OMG!! what a gorgeous look those bamboo poles make! Can't wait for those plants to fill it in. your yard area looks better every year. you have now become an example for us all to follow.
Great idea on the lattice trellis, Meg! It looks so nice. I harvested my first crop of garlic recently - it's so easy to grow!! I don't think I'll ever not grow it from now on. Y'alls garlic haul was fantastic!
I think it would be really fun to have a contest with all the kids next year… who can grow the most and make the best meal from their own plot of garden (or vertical garden). They each pick out what to grow, start the seeds, nurture them, prepare the garden bed (or vertical garden), replant and maintain it. They harvest and then make a meal for the family that highlights what they’ve grown and the work they did. It could be as simple as a salad, pea soup, or strawberry ice cream. I think it would be a lot of fun for them to compete and share.. and we’d enjoy watching their progress on a “kids cam” progress report segment. I bet other youth who watch the channel would love it!
The fruit trees are looking so good! They have grown so much. We would love yas to do a walk around the orchard video to show us what trees etc you have planted. Beautiful video 🌻🌸
Buggy has a cute hairdo. You two are so hard working. Admire you for it. Wish I was your age again. I’m 70 and definitely slowing down in my gardening. There’s nothing better than working out in the garden. Good luck to you
Wonderful to see so much garlic grown on your homestead. I have two rows about 12 feet long. I should probably check to see if it's ready. That bamboo system is so cool, very pretty.
That crisscross bamboo looks awesome! Reminds me of seeing something similar somewhere, where they did espalier fruit trees on. I'm sure Meg will enjoy looking at that from the sink every day.
I don't know why I watch this family.....it might be because of Bens great advice and tips on the garden, or watching someone else do all the hard work!. It might be how much fun they all have together, even the working together. It might be Meg in the kichen and all that delicious food (even though she won't do a cook book! 😂) it might be just that adorable "Buggy" and the boys....I told you..I don't know why....I just know I LOVE them all (and wish they posted every day) even though I know they are brilliant at sharing their time with us. Thanks Hollar family! 🤗
Asian gardeners always use bamboo stakes to grow vegetables on. They put them criss-cross on an angle against a straight bamboo stand. The vegetables grow hanging down below the leaves under the trellis. So easy to pick and protected from the hot sun.
I suggest that you take the garlic cloves that have split open and course chop them and put them in half pint jars with olive oil covering them. You will have chopped garlic at hand for cooking and garlic flavored olive oil for dressings and marinades. I really like the crisscrossed trellis. I can’t wait to see it covered in food. Last but never least, Buggy is too adorable for words. What happy childhood memories she will have. All your kids are so blessed to have you two as parents. 😊
Just a thought we took a couple 2x4's and took a chicken wire and made a box with it a couple saw horses and put the garlic through the holes of the chicken wire hang it from your ceiling if wanted or just the saw horses!
Great job revitalizing the land. Have you heard of Jerry Baker? My brother started following, had incredible soil, grass. I used his remedies on my neglected yard…holy cow.
Wow your garlic looks awesome and yes I agree salt, pepper, garlic.i like how you integrate your plants in the orchard. I learn something new from you Ben & Meg and yes Meg the bamboo trellis looks good can't wait to see what it looks like filled in. .I see your corn is getting tall any ears on it yet? Buggy looks so cute in pigtails. Blessings to you all. 😊🇺🇲
You had an amazing garlic harvest!! I grew much more than last year and mine are drying as well. That bamboo wall will look amazing as the vines grow up it.
Oh I miss garlic! With onions and tomatoes. A wonderful basic pasta sauce, so delicious! Once I'm out of the hospital and can cook my own meals, garlic will fill the air! That bamboo trellis looks great. Nicely done.
Love the crisscrossed bamboo! I agree about the garlic -- we planted about three thousand cloves last fall. Some was intentionally planted at half spacing, to be pulled as "green garlic" for our low FODMAP family members. In a few days, we will harvest our scapes (also a low FODMAP food), and in a few weeks we'll get our third and final harvest, when we pull the remaining garlic.
Now thats a beautiful trellis!! I think im gonna make friends with my neighbors 3 blocks over and ask to cut some bamboo and drag them to my garden…. It would save me about $100 on cattle panel and t-posts!! I think I pulled my garlic too soon but trial and error is the name of the gardening game…. Love love you guys!! We all learn little bits from each other and use what works for our own gardens big or small they are all awesome!!! Happy growing everyone.
Thank you for showIng all that garlic! Now I feel vindicated with the 32 pounds that I planted last fall. We use a lot (fresh, minced, and powdered). We also share with my sister and include garlic in gift baskets (wedding, house-warming and holiday). The rest gets replanted. Kudos on your garlic. Yes, it looks terrific! Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA - 6/20/2023.
I had a home built swing set with a top rail at about 12 ft off the ground. After my kids were grown I added cattle panels across the back side and trellised my luffas there. They thrived. It was the most fantastic shade spot in my whole yard. I predict the same with your wall of gourds. I can’t wait to see it fill out. Great work!
I love the look of the latticework. It’s so pleasing to the eye. I can’t wait to see the plants climb up the bamboo poles. 🌱🌿🌱🌞
I know right!!! I’m so excited as well!!

Megs placing the criss cross bamboo is wonderful.

Your corn is tasling, oh my, that grew fast or at least it seems like to me, yes you folks had a wonderful crop of garlic this year, congrats!
The bamboo latice looks lovely, teamwork makes the dream work.
Your orchard is divine, my favorite spot on the property.

Never thought of that. I diced all mine. It is nice to have frozen garlic. Grating would be no big deal and a great idea. Thanks!
That’s exactly what I do and have wondered cloves all year long. Great suggestion! ❤
Does the garlic smell up the freezer? Do you store in ziplock freezer bags?
@@gretaknebel8495 Yes your ice will taste like garlic. I keep mine in my meat freezer. Not my kitchen freezer. So if you don't have an extra freezer....beware.
