As an old farmer, I've always said the easiest thing to grow on a farm is the farm itself. But once you reach a certain size, the maintenance becomes a full-time job. You guys have grown and expanded your gardens and orchards and livestock incredibly over the last few years since you moved there, but you're starting to reach that equilibrium point where it takes most of your time to maintain what you now have. You just have to pace yourself, and do the best you can taking care of what you have and enjoy it
Piggy tails on Buggy are so adorable. Y'all are so far ahead of us in the growing season and it looks so good. Living in a desert here in Eastern Washington without much rain ever makes a big difference.
Thank you for garden tour. Brings wonderful memories of my paternal grandfather taking us around his garden and being so pleased with it and me at my interest.
I think Meg's garden should be a focus this winter, and she deserves it! Maybe have a work day were a lot of people come in and build out everything she wants. She's the glue that keeps everything together and she deserves to be celebrated.
As I have aged I have learned that life is all about perspective. Y’all think your garden is behind and small. I see a huge flourishing garden! Don’t be so hard on yourself. Everything you harvest is a win for the family. Nice to see y’all looking more relaxed.
In April we took some advice that if you hatch round eggs instead of pointed ones we would get hens. Others have said it does not work. We had 42 eggs in incubator and hatched out 32 hens and 3 roosters. Don't know why but I was happy
Good Day Eh ! Hollars . If I can make a Little Suggestion when you ( Ben ) or Meg can comfortably go bare-foot outside and not have sore feet later then . That would be a good time to save for Pullet eggs . Because , When I use to raise Show Chickens you needed to start your hatches earlier or the Males tails would be to short to show . Also cold weather Breedings mean more Male produced . If you are wanting more girls . Breed in warmer Temps . luck to you all :)
I was doing great with my raised bed garden, until the neighbors garage caught fire, carching the fence on fire, taking 6 beds with it(tomatoes, peppers and okra😢😢). A friend gave me some fabric garden bags to grow in.
Little Miss is a delight, I'm sure you folks enjoy her mile stone's of growing up. You folks have raised a incredible family. Homesteading and being self sufficient has been proven by you folks. ❤ from VA 0:00
Hasn’t this weather year been SO bizarre? I’m in the SF Bay Area and in addition to the record breaking rains we had this winter, we’ve only broken 68 degrees twice this year. It’s nearly the end of June and it went to 44 the last two nights. As a flower farmer, it’s been a HARD year. Things aren’t dying, but they aren’t really growing either. I’m a full six weeks behind where my crops always are this time of year. I mean, it’s nice not to be in triple digits right now but temps that summer crops like would be great.
Looks like a raccoon had corn for lunch. One year they decimated my sweet corn crop. One fun fact. According to old folks if it rains on June 26th it will rain for 40 days, might not rain hard but there will be rain. We refer to it as Dog Days and will end on September 6th. Stay safe in these storms. Raining hard in Southeast Alabama now. Meg I love the sweater. Good job Brett an growing your garden. You definitely have a green thumb.
maybe turn some of the garden stuff over to your one son that loves to garden he could be a huge help for you plus make him be proud of his self for helping feed the family
I’ve just read an article here in the UK about how Sicily off the coast in Italy in the Mediterranean is slowly turning tropical. The wet and humid conditions are destroying traditional fruit and vegetables. A local farmer noticed this happening years ago and started planting tropical fruit. They are booming. Mangoes, papaya coconuts bananas etc whilst lemons, which Sicily is famous for, pears, apples tomatoes courgettes all are struggling. Maybe Brett could experiment with a few things that like all that rain to see how they would do?
This was a nice walk-around video. It reminds me of my North Dakota childhood. When the neighbors or relatives came, my parents would walk around the yard and talk about the garden just like you did today. The two of you are naturals. I continue to feel as though you’re talking directly to me as to how the garden grows. You feel like family.❤️😊
@@lajohnson1967 , Yes, thank you for your comment. I feel the kinship 😊. On Sundays we would get in the car and drive around town and show the relatives or friends all the new construction in town. Lol 😆 Sometimes my Dad would drive out by the highway to see how high the corn was growing. 🌽 Ahh those were the days….simpler times. I’m grateful for having grown up in the Dakotas. I live in Southern California now. It’s a totally different pace of life. Glad I have my childhood memories to keep me grounded.
I had covid in April 😮. Went to visit our youngest for two weeks. Finally I bought 2 different tomatoes and put them in the ground today.😅 my oldest son came and cleaned up the garden to give me a blank canvas. Just have no energy. Rain can come. My 20 chickens were spoiled by him too. He built them an automatic waterer.
My 3 month old roosters are crowing and it's hilarious. They started about 3 weeks ago, I didn't know what the sound was until I saw them actually trying to crow. We've had some cold weather here in north central WA, my cold weather veggies are doing good but not growing very fast. If we can get some heat, I'm sure they would really take off.
We all have times when we don’t do what we planned. Just running the channel must be a lot of work perhaps sometimes you need reminding of how much you have achieved. Love Buggy’s hair today. Such a great family.
My husband was a drafter for home construction and so he put his talent to work drawing our garden plans each year. He drew how many seedlings I could put in and how long each row was, how far apart the plants were, along with the second crop plans. Very helpful. Great job Meg drawing it out. Can't believe you guys have that much rain in a few days and up in Wisconsin we are seeing drought conditions. A news report this morning saying the farmer's markets are suffering for lack of crops to take to market because of the cool temps and then the drought.
I hear you about the garden. I am a single mom and my daughter graduated high school this month and will be going off to college soon. In addition, I'm dealing with elderly parents with dementia. I planned to adjust the garden this year to minimize the crops that take a lot of effort (tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, etc.) and maximize the easy stuff (rows and rows of potatoes, zucchini ). In the middle of planting time, the company I work for is going out of business and I needed to find a new job which I start in two weeks. I'm keeping up, but just barely. Was thankful I cut the garlic planting in half last year when I was harvesting last night prior to all the rain coming for my area. You guys are doing great. Enjoy the kids on those rainy days. Life is an adventure. Keep going and enjoy the ride.
@heatherk8931 we live off grid so it is impossible to slow cook them in the summer. We just quickly dispatch them. I would like to build a smoker this fall to smoke them.
So happy for brett mom how about getting him interested in your herb garden would be great I think you guys are doing well we have just had at least two weeks of rain 🌧️ here in cape town south Africa love bugs hair she's so sweet 💗😘 yeah have a wonderful weekend Pete
Can't believe how fast year garden is growing and looking good . Ours isn't as far along as yours. Meg can't remember what you wanted to plant in your cute garden space. I could almost smell those blueberry muffins yum. Always nice to have a few days of breathing space before the canning begins. Buggy is so cute and the Black eyed Susan looks so cute in Buggy's hair. Blessings to you and the family. 😊🇺🇲
I'm enjoying your garden. Mine was put on hold by mother nature in February. We had a tornado damage our house, and were just getting ready to start planting. I do have two green stalk planters with peppers in them, and the garden has onions, garlic and potatoes that are mostly ready to harvest. God bless you and yours, and thank you for keeping me motivated through these difficult times.
I love volunteer plants..such an abundance, looking good. Maybe Meg can start putting up some roses or what in that lady garden of her that won't take too much time.
The rain sure does make a difference with the gardens. It also makes a difference in the grass and weeds. I've been pulling weeds continously. Lambs Quarter, and Willis Lawn has been terrible this year in the garden. I believe it's because of the extreme winds we've had. Y'all will have nice vegetables come harvest time. Little Ms. Buggie loves being in the garden with Mom, and Dad. She is adorable, and growing up so fast.
Wonderful progress; thanks for sharing! It seems like the brakes are on for me, too, & each day isn’t long enough to get everything done! As a retired grandma & wife, it’s like I have so many choices of ‘what to do’, that I barely get a few done! I guess I’m in gratitude that I can still do most of the things I want to do. Blessings to all🤗💜🇨🇦
I read that if you are hatching eggs the more rounded eggs are more likely hens and the oblong eggs are more likely roosters! Too early for me to tell if it worked this last batch but there have apparently been studies!
Really? I've got 3 eggs that I cannot tell which end is the big end! One hen has layed them all. If I didn't already have 20, TWENTY! I'd be tempted to verify by only hatching those 3 eggs. Hmmmmmm😂 Shoot! Now I'm thinking.... maybe
Buggy is a little diva today with her adorable pig tails. Reminds me of my youngest daughter years ago styling her pigtails. 🫠 great walking the garden today. I was looking at Bobbleheads video when he had his first shed/ home who did I see…the Hollars helping Jeff with his home.
I kept looking at that sweater and thinking.....are those the markers? lol. But, you did a great job on the sweater. Brett is amazing! Y'all are doing a great job with your children. Love the water wagon.
Ben and Meg bemoaning how meager their garden is this year - and then spending the next half hour bounding through the plenty they didn’t know they had created.
Buggy is in a growth spurt again. She is getting tall. Thanks for the garden up-date. I really enjoyed it. We are also getting a lot of rain, but it is warm which is unusual in Oregon. I often look at your sunny blue skies and wish i had your weather, only to realize that you are probably usually only filming when it is sunny. God bless you all. Rotten eggs are stinky. My three chickens are now all laying at 4 months. I live in the city and can only have 3.
OMG MEG😂😂😂, I blew up 4 eggs as a teen, pot ran out of water, I had gone outside.... 😅😅 Returned to STINK, STANK, STUNK🤢. And eggs on the ceiling and everywhere 😂😂 Praying you got more hens than roos this time round. I hatched 2 in Mar->2 roosters, and 9 in April, pretty sure .5 are roosters as well
North central Indiana will gladly take some of your rain! We had a nice drizzle the second Sunday of June but before that it was in April. It’s pretty dry here. I was stung by a bee a week ago. I pulled the stinger and as quick as possible I put local honey on it. It calmed down within 2 hours and not much itching!
I think the boys and Ben should give a day to Meg and help get her fenced in garden done, for all the cooking and baking she does for them, even thou she loves it
Good-morning. My husband and son rigged up a watering system. Game changer. Got a square white tank, put it on a little trailer and bought a little pump. It has cut our work by a quarter. We collect rain water and fill up the tank on trailer from those. Love watching your progress. We have learned to enjoy the gardening journey. 😊💕🙏🏻🇨🇦
It's okay if you don't get your herb garden finished in the first year. Just keep plugging along. Each year, we make bigger plans than we end up being able to finish, but we sure get more done than if we'd had no plan at all! Love your channel, and your amazing family -- you're doing great!
Your garden is really jamming! We finally are getting the rain that we desperately needed . You should have filmed making that water barrel , such a cool idea !
Buggie is my joy at any when I look at her I feel so warm hearted its like the lord sent this channel to uplift my soul .I thank you in Jesus name. My husband and I will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary on Thursday .Hope to see you guys in the orchard
We're so very dry here in mid Missouri!! I'm deep watering once a week to keep things alive!! Two of our daughters are married to farmers so pray we start getting rain soon!!
There is always a need to have time to do research! (But we really are having rain for more days than usual, my rainy times "go to" activity. Love the design of that sweater - & with 3/4 sleeves, my favorite because it's so easy to work with hands & it has such a great look too. I think those thingies make the sweater look so cool altho we saw later you put the buttons on!!
Well I had a comment ready to send, but UA-cam started another video without my wanting to and...there went my comment in never never land. What I'd said was how pretty your garden is growing with all this rain! I bet you will be having stewed, baked, or fried rooster before the new roosters get too old and tough! I've never seen that kind of onion, interesting! Love you new sweater! Ben has heard your knitting terms long enough to know those were stitch markers for buttons!😘 I've yet to knit a sweater in my 12 yrs of knitting. I'm to chicken to try it.
What part...my daughter is in San Antonio, I'd like to go north where it's not so humid. The heat we get here too, but humidity is another level of HOT😅
Wow, 3 inches of rain! So cool that you are hatching out chicks. Too bad the egg went bad and exploded. My husband does a booklet about our plantings too. It helps. He even keeps track of how long he mows and when. Thanks for the tour of the "jammin" gardens. I like the barrel water cart you made. Brett is a great gardener and that's so cool how he rigged up a way to water his garden. Thanks for this video Hollar family!
Nice to see your little munchkin with the pig tails , just too cute.. The garden is in a holding pattern here too , just watering and waiting....... Always nice to drop bye..
The first year I was able to break ground in my garden was 2020. 21 we were I'll like All Spring and I was barely able to get out there. 22 I was injured. This year I hit the ground running! I was able to triple my garden space. And then I had some kind of muscle and joint issue and was moving like an 80yr woman for a month. But I still made myself get out there and weed. Now summer is here and, being in FL, you just kinda wait. Cause it's too warm for things. So I'm planning and getting things ready for fall but I'm Tried! I'm pushing myself though!
While watching your garden tour, I was chuckling about how Miss Buggy narrates or sings as you speak. Then I wondered where Millie was and boom, she appeared! Love hearing about the boys too. Brett is coming up with some great hacks.
Those rainy days can be spent building a proper kitchen table with benches. I'm sure you all, esp Meg, will appreciate the extra space for harvesting and food prep.

Wait, wait, wait! You MADE that sweater?! And it's super cute and stylish and not at all like the sweaters my Mom ever made me?!
Totally amazed.
Love baby girls hair in pigtails & how she loves saying, bye.

I used to hatch chickens a lot years ago and round ended eggs gave hens 99% of the time. My most recent hatching gave me all hens.
Buggie’s hair looks so cute!
This is the first time I’ve seen her with pig tails, adorable!
She’s so cute!!!

I agree on all your opinions
Take a frame of brood, larva and eggs and drop into the other hive, they will make a new queen for you! Love you guys keep it up.
I did not know that. I learn so much from others (gardners, homesteaders, farmers ect.)
Meg you are absolutely glowing in this video
I love the way you express your adoration of Ben and his unto you

They’ll have Queen cells along the bottom
So far nothing, but I have been keeping an eye out for that.

We had to deal with drought last year.. that was REALLY hard. I guess I'll take the rain for now. Nature can be tough. 🙏
When you dig out your horse radish. If there's any route at all left behind it will grow a new plant that is how horse radish profitates
So much rain is hindering 😢 my garden and bugs eating my beans!
You should laminate the garden maps so you can reuse them each year or even each new planting. Although I guess you won’t have a yearly log that way.
Great idea!
At least tuck them in plastic protector sleeves. Great for reference.
They can take pictures of the completed map for each planting.

Enjoyed the walk around your garden. You have got so much growing in such a short time. Bye Buggy. Bye to you two too. 💕💕🌻🌻
Buggy is an adorable, cute, and smart little girl. I so love her little spirit.❤❤❤
There is always a need to have time to do research! (But we really are
having rain for more days than usual, my rainy times "go to" activity. Love the design of that sweater - & with 3/4 sleeves, my favorite
because it's so easy to work with hands & it has such a great look too. I think those thingies make the sweater look so cool altho we saw
later you put the buttons on!!
Thanks for letting us visit. Nice garden tour
An update on those curing hams please Ben….😋
I've had kale and radishes from my mid Michigan garden. No rain since end of April.
I feel so sry for her😂😂😂😂 He seems like he NEVER STOPS 😮😮😮
Well I had a comment ready to send, but UA-cam started another video without my wanting to and...there went my comment in never never land. What I'd said was how pretty your garden is growing with all this rain! I bet you will be having stewed, baked, or fried rooster before the new roosters get too old and tough! I've never seen that kind of onion, interesting! Love you new sweater! Ben has heard your knitting terms long enough to know those were stitch markers for buttons!😘 I've yet to knit a sweater in my 12 yrs of knitting. I'm to chicken to try it.
Pretty sweater Meg. Loving your videos!
I love how down to earth you guys are
I live in Caldwell County, NC and we’ve had rain ALL WEEK, with rain in the forecast through Saturday. So looking forward to some sunshine!!! 💜
Your garden of veggies and garden of children are growing beautifully!
All your hard work is paying dividends! Keep up the great work guys.
It's 110 here in west Texas, sure could use some rain and cooler weather.
Rain gear and top dressing with mulch, this is how you garden in a rainy climate.
Gorgeous garden guys
Nice to see your little munchkin with the pig tails , just too cute.. The garden is in a holding pattern here too , just watering and waiting....... Always nice to drop bye..
I love you all's videos
💚 Glad to be amongst the late-garderners this year...thanks for the tour!💚
Such a beautiful garden. Bye Buggie!! ♥️
