Crazy how fast the world changed. My grandma was born just before Japan invaded China. She grew up in a small US town so rural people didn't even speak English, in a home without indoor plumbing or electricity. She'd ride into town on a horse drawn sled in winter. She died in a home with a wireless camera system, smartphone, powered arm chair (the kind that stand you up), LED lights, and a flat-screen TV.

Japan used to be a highly militarized society going back to the feudal era and earlier, with the Samurai class gaining most of the power in the country back around the Heian period and making the country very militant over time through the Edo period. After the Edo period the samurai became officers and many of the military governors became politicians, business tycoons, and officers. They became increasingly militant and were heavily influenced by European colonialism/imperialism and later fascism which eventually culminated in their ultra nationalist/fascist ideology that carried them through WW2.
Now though all the officers were removed from power, most of the militant leaders were killed or removed from power, the government is anti military, and the people are some of the most anti military and pacifist in the world. Japans communist party is even one of the only major pacifist communist parties in the world and is one of if not the largest communist party in a democratic government in the world. The Japanese people are so opposed to militarism that Japanese officers are expected to suffer zero causalities on any operation, not participate in combat on military operations and humanitarian missions, and are expected to avoid even accidental deaths. It wasn't an official law but I've read that commanding officers are expected to resign command if they suffer any losses, even due to freak accidents or no fault accidents.

@@prussianowl233 Yea, Sun's killed dragon (Qing), then bruised and battered each other (Second Sino-Japanese War), then lost most of what they once laid claim to (ROC lost the mainland, Japan it's empire) from the Stars (The United States and PRC).

Нет, достойным противником их нельзя было назвать, 4 года войны против слабого и разобщенного Китая и небольших гарнизонов Союзников это больше избиение, а вот после столкновение с реально серьезным врагом Японии надо было бы подумать о том, насколько глубоко отстала их армия, которая брала больше числом чем холодным умением. Но то что было, то вот так получилось, рано или поздно солнце заходит за горизонт.

@@KrepostVivat не сказал бы что Китай был слабым противником, ведь основной тактикой Китая с 41 годов стала ожесточенная партизанская война, полное разрушение логистики на завоеванных территориях (которой и так кот наплакал). Да и не стоит забывать что Япония контролировала почти все густонаселенные части Китая не считая внутренние пахотные земли. Да и врагами для Европейцев они были, например битва за Бирму, Британцами очень сильно ненавистна, т.к из-за ужасного климата, логистики и постоянных засад Японцев, которым такой климат был еще более менее. Британия понесла большие потери не только в своем населении, но и странами АНЗАКА, Индии. Да и не стоит забывать что война мировая, Япония рассчитывала на победу Рейха в войне, те же поставки резины с Азии в Европу упали в значительных размерах. + Японцы заложили долго идущую мину как Азиатский национализм, в следствии которого были Вьетнамские, Индонезийские войны
