Damn it really feels like the lyrics were made for this one video, now it looks like the aircraft carrier is talking to the pilots, begging them to come back from their missions safe, telling them they'll always be safe on her, or to watch out not to go too fast nor too slow while landing. This might be one of the best videos you've made so far, very... touching
I had the exact same thought as I've listened to it, especially after the "I'll take you down the line" part. For those who are not familiar with aviation: flight line is the place where the aircraft is loaded up and checked just before the flight. When I heard that line, I imagined an elevator on an aircraft carrier is slowly rising up, taking the plane, and the nervous pilot to the "line"
The last line of the lyrics said, "you're all that I need right now, so fall" the carrier wanted her brave pilots to fall in love with coming back to her because her job is to act as a home away from home
It's almost like the ship is singing the song, telling us her story and the stories of the men who sailed and flew with her into battle. And she's doing it with great melancholy. Like an older veteran, telling their tale.
there was also pilots crashing their aircraft into the carrier because they landed too hard or straight up burned their aircraft because they rutured the fuel tanks
Last line of the song: oh you're all that I need right, so fall. Proceeds to show aircraft landing after their missions. The love between a carrier and its aircraft is unmatched. A carrier provides safety and shelter and will always be there for her battle weary aircraft. This video and song humanized a carrier and I think that's beautiful.
I imagine the ship’s crew and pilots that survived the war probably had memories of scenes like the one from 2:52 to 3:12 for the rest of their lives. Just breathtaking.
loved watching this movie when i was a kid. the combat footage was so surreal to watch. seeing how a carrier worked back then, and all of the missions they did in the pacific. the old 40s commentating made it a perfect film to watch. music fits these scenes very well too.
oh 1 thing i forgot about that scene on 4:04. americans diden't dropped fuel tank. maybe they encountered japanese on a way to their cv and they noticed before japanese notice americans are there. or ambushed in the sky.
Just looking at that shot of murderer’s row at 2:39 makes me wish I could have seen TF58 in full order, a dozen Essex’s, the CVLs, the British carriers, it must have been incredible...
trade mark at the start of the battle of Leyte Gulf, you were looking at quite possibly the most powerful surface fleet that ever gave battle. 16 carriers, one THOUSAND aircraft, plus all 4 Iowa class battleships in their prime. If you had to knock down the Pearly Gates and march into Heaven, it would be at the tip of the Fast Carrier Task Force.
I find this video amazing plus the dog fighting is just so fascinating to watch on here. To see how hard and talented you had to be to shoot a fast zero down. And to be careful to not hit a friend while hitting at the zero. And how hard it was to land and how to shoot a convoy ship or a base to hell. It's amazing and fascinating! Great video man!
I would say landing was easy. Since planes are small and fly relatively slowly, it makes aircraft carrier look enormous. On the other hand, hitting an enemy ship with a bomb or even with gunfire seems to be much harder than it looks. See the fire spread around some of the attacked ships. Gunfire was incredibly inaccurate unless at a very short range!
@@pavel9652 Yeah you got that point there yo! Landing must've been easy to do with training, But from my view it seems to be total hell, That's why I ain't gonna go for Air units, I'd rather more stick as a Ground Armored Unit. With dropping bombs, Yeah that was definitely hard, Movies and other things make it seem easy when in reality it's completely hard, You have to angle your shot right, And make sure to hit the enemy good and to pray to God that you aren't hit at any crucial parts of the plane, What more amazes me is on how real Air-to-Air was the hardest thing!
It also brings a Chill sense While playing in War thunder on the Naval American Portion of Aviation. Nothing but Calm waves and Wind passing in by bullets.
4:27 (I'll catch your fall) and a badly beaten Hellcat, missing the starboard side landing gear. *EPIC!* Edit: Thanks guys for pointing out the mistakes.
The Vought Corsair or the dreaded "Whistling Death" by Japanese Troops. (Although I think the majority of planes in this are Bearcats, Either Dauntless's and Avengers or something similar.)
Depends on the carrier and the time period. At the end of the war there were less torpedo bombers and a lot more dive bombers across the board with the US Navy. Also Airgroups tended to figure out what they needed and had some ability to choose which planes they were willing to bring.
when talking about WWII in Europe i always think the Germans as top gear and tactics, the real powerhouse. But when i talk about WWII in the Pacific, the Yanks put 5/7 s of their power there, the air machines may not have been as good as the p 51(wich is product of overpowered industry) but they had to be ingenious with the engineering and resource allocation (US WWII Naval Fighters Exhibit some real good and original engineering, not like the Mustang that is a Bf 109 on steroids)
As much as I love shitting on the yanks as a Canadian especially in regards to WW2 I've always had a great respect for pilots and sailors and these guys had balls of steel. God bless.

4:03 bet tht guy shat himself when his friendly flew in front of his line of fire
4:04 pilot's deadly mistake: enters to the friendly's firing zone. he should get out from there immediately.
