Def in toram has been in a weird spot for a while. It gives you 1% damage reduction every time you hit a certain milestone, but that milestone gets exponentially larger the more def you have. After 1000-something its hard to justify chasing it. The consensus is that its not worth worrying about compared to damage resistance.
