Have only owned Icoms. Great radios and and love them. But I have been in the market for a new HF+6 rig for a little while. Naturally I looked at buying another Icom. Can't find a new one any where. So I began looking at and reading about the Yeasu FTDX10 and 101D. I finally pulled the trigger on a FTDX10.....it is an Awesome radio! I really never thought that I would say it. But, I am glad that I couldn't find the Icom that I wanted. No regrets on this radio. I love it. BTW.....your videos on this radio were very helpful. Thanks.

I'm still using an old FT-77 from circa 1984. Nearly 40 years old. Bought it well-used in 2006. My future may include an FT-991a and/or an FTdx10.

I've used my FTDX10 for a week. I am not particularly happy with it. I continually knock the VFO whenever I go close to the controls arranged around it. The DNR is watery and echoes, on any of the 15 settings. The DNR on my FT891 is just perfect by comparison. Sorry to say that I am thinking of moving it on - it just isn't floating my boat and I am struggling to see what it offers for the investment over and above the FT891.
Quite what to replace it with is an open question. Neither the Elecraft K3S or Yaesu FTDX5000MP are made any more.

Still love mine. Side by side dnr is superior hands down 991a dnr is the Watery sounding dnr to me. 991a not bad radio but not close to s/n or sensitivity you get from dx10 in my opinion. 101d has a bigger knob it's basically a compact portable 101. I bump all knobs why most radios have a lock button works well for me still my favorite radio rarely dose 991a get used now wanna buy a 991a lol

@@aaronlabranche2977 The radio I am comparing it to is the FT891 Aaron, not the FT991A. The FT891 DNR is amazing. No water or echo.
I have spoken to some FTDX10 owners who tell me their DNR is perfect, but they are running firmware v01.04, whereas I have v01.08 - so no idea if that's the problem?
The Yaesu site only has my firmware available, not earlier versions. Which version do you have?

I actually don't see a change in dnr from ftdx1200 891 or 991a ftdx 10 was first noticeable diffrence again just my opinion

@@aaronlabranche2977 Of course, your opinion is your opinion.
I have used the FT891 as my first HF base station since April. It has been amazing. I only work SSB and am licence restricted to 50W. Best DX over 10,000 miles , UK to Australia.
Bought the FTDX10 and while some things are better, the DNR just isn't. I wish I could say otherwise.
The water fall is OK, and nice to look at, but I had gotten used to using a band spot and that's a hard habit to get out of.
My comments aren't intended to try and alter anyones opinion of their FTDX10, just trying to have a conversation about elements I am not happy with.

I’ve just purchased to replace my FTdx3000, the receiver and advances in digital technology are just so good. Only niggle is accidentally touching the tuning dial - that’s it. The outer tuning ring has multi functional use which makes it easier to use, very pleased with what I have, is it perfect no, but not sure another $1000 would buy me the perfect rig either. This is a legitimate child of the FTdx101 and it shows, setting a high bar in performance. If your a Yaesu user migrating over it should not be an issue, just use UA-cam and the manual and soon you will be as agile and confident as this old ham (had mine for 24 hours). Don’t knock it just enjoy it as the positives outweigh the negatives. 73 de M0AZE Mike

It is one hell of a radio for what Yaesu is charging but they went to the trouble to back light the buttons on the 991a. I would have thought they'd do the same with all of there radios. I do love my DX10....it's a great rig.

@@sporty05 In contrast to what he has, which is how I used to run it, just wider. Set the span to 200k, on the left set it to FIX. Hold down FIX for three seconds and enter 14.150. The screen will cover the 200khz starting at 14.150 and ending at the top of the 20m band at 14.350. The cursor then moves instead of all the traces so you can pick a signal to listen to and go to it without wiping all the "traces" across the screen.

Your videos are the only videos on UA-cam that are not full screen, on my device at least they are postage stamp size in the top left corner of the frame.. I'll apologise in advance if you have explained this elsewhere and I've missed it..but can I ask why is this? Something deliberate on your part? UA-cam at work? Or my device?

Hi I live on a very noisy enviromemt in San Jose, Costa Rica and I have a Ic 7600 who gets rif of some of the noise on 80m using a wire dipole. My noise floor on with alm the filters is S9 so will this radio be able to reduce some of the noise on 80m? I like the radio very much. Specciallt the fact thar could be plug in ro a monitor a good thing dor me since I have bad whes.

Yes for me dx10 has much lower noise floor especially down there

    • @kellypaws
      @kellypaws 3 роки тому +1

You need a listening loop antenna, or an active loop on the ground. Once the noise is into the coax, all you are really doing is trying to process it out. If it’s filtered before that, it’s far more effective. Also, a listening loop would be much, much cheaper. (Welbrook antennas for instance.)

@@aaronlabranche2977 Was the IPO on or off on the x10? Turn it off. By doing this you're actually turning on the 1st IF preamp. Then, take readings. You'll find they are about the same. Yaesu has always approached the front end circuitry with the IPO(removing the 1st IF amplifier) on to make it seem like they are quieter. Turn on the the same function in the 7300 or turn off the IPO on the x10. This is why a prefer a more technical approach. I know most say it doesn't matter.
