One of Davies biggest strengths is his restraint. He's always playing for the sake of the music, not to show off.

I agree that he has great control and the sense to use restraint when it's appropriate. The passion to slapp that music out into the world is certainly present. That said, Davie definitely likes to show off. He even flexes on the community in his best solos videos by submitting his own under another alias!

I've been playing bass 4 months and Davie504 definitely pushes me to improve everyday . He was literally awesome his first year playing .
Current davie looks like he’s giving bass lessons to his son (young davie)
He made his younger self sound like background music......
not really background music actually. The way he used it was not really a "battle", but more like building a whole song. The old video was the the base (rhythm/progression) and then he added lead lines, further building the harmony with a solo. Tbh, seeing the chops of his younger self, he had almost the same incredible skills as now. xD Except ofc the better production/mixing.

Every day we should challenge our past selves.
To be honest, it feels like you've improved drastically. You're timing now is much cleaner and there are a lot of minor details that give it much more groove. It feels like young Davie plays music with his fingers, while old Davie plays music with his soul. You went from being pretty good to achieving a form of mastery. I'm not sure if you were just being modest, but the difference in skill is quite clear to me

Dude, nice! Your younger self is technically competent, but doesn't have the same that feel you do now. It's almost like it's a heavily quantasized recording, vs a straight-to-tape recording by someone who can FEEL what they're playing. Awesome to see the progression of a musician :-)

i don’t understand how you were THAT good after only playing for about a year, now you’re literally amazing. you have so much skill and talent and i look up to your passion for music a lot
I also find it fascinating that you can tell that Flea has been a big influence to him since all those old jams could easily be straight from an RHCP album.
I know, it's insane, i've been playing bass for almost 6 years now and i'm not even near the level of his first videos
A teenager still has immense learning capacity.
It's a natural talent plus a ton of hard work and dedication to improving.
It's all about how you practice.
Not really what.
I knew a dude who had only be playing guitar for a year and could do everything from jazz to punk to metal.
Could shred for days, sweep, and tap flawlessly.
Even talked about wanting to do a John Petrucci song but found out it took two people to pull off.
Also knew another dude who had been playing for about a year and a half and was basically like a young Eddie.
He would do some of those Tapping chord harmonics whatnot and a few other things.
Probably helped that his dad was some stringed instrument seller of some kind.
This guy was already so sure that he was goona master the bass??? dang it the confidence...he had!
Really cool to hear the improvement in timing.
