This seems ridiculously complicated for a beginner like me. all i want to do is stop running back and forth with SD cards. who knew being lazy would take so much work? 😅
LOL, I hear you, there is a lot to setup. Hopefully raspberry pi will be available again soon and it will be easier.
Do you NEED a Pi to run this on a printer or can your Laptop/desktop run this without buying an expensive PI
You don't need a RPi to run this, I am running multiple instances of OctoPrint on my windows desktop printing on 2 different printers at the same time. Chris does a great job explaining everything to run this on a windows desktop.
@@redheelerdog I've never done any of this not very skilled with a pc
Thanks, Red! Here's the video:

Thanks for watching!
If your IP changes on the OctoPrint Host Machine (where is running) you will need to update your Shortcuts to your new IP. Just in case someone is looking for a solution for a problem that I was having.
Thanks!
Would love to see the max number of printers you can set up on one windows box. Does Octoprint mention any limits?
same concern. My Linux box already working with octoPrint with 5 printers, will Windows will be better or worse?
@@jomarx I suspect the USB port might be the bottle neck - not in dada, but in software accessing it. You?
@@GeorgeGraves well, it will be 1 USB port per printer, so I think it will not be much of a problem (unless the USB hub is sub standard). In my Linux Box, I used a PCI 4 port USB card
Yeah, it's really hard to judge. On this small PC CPU would start to suffer before anything else. I know folks that run 10-12 printer on windows without issues.
@@ChrisRiley do those people have problems when you reset (power on /off) a printer, it may cause other printers to stop printing too?I was hoping its only a Linux thing.
nice video !! thks !!!!
Thank you too!
hmm I couldn't find the "activate.bat" obly the python.exe" conversely it's not working..back to the drawing board! Thank you for all you do!! (c:\Octoprint>octoprint serve
'octoprint' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Windows is forever changing and is a real pain. I would have to install it over again and see what's changed.
@@ChrisRiley That's OK I downloaded the windows octoprint file executable from their website and installed that one and now it works..no need to install python separetly, that .exe does everything..I'm now fully operational.
I seriously thought you meant running on Windows Server 2022. Was like.... why the hell....😅
Lol, thanks for watching
I remember when I installed octopi it said it's not completely compatible with the prusa MK3S+MMU2. I configured it anyway and everything was fine...........until I got to a print with 6 colors (and no the printer doesn't heat up after you hit resume when mannually switching fillaments in the mmu during the print I had to do it mannually) and just over the 1 day mark............M112 more than once. Apparently that's the incompatibility. It sucks!!!!! I found some suggestions............and they didn't work I got it again. sigh........ I love octoprint. I don't want to get rid of it, but this sucks!!!
I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck with your projects
It’s only letting me run one octoprint at a time
Make sure you have the base directories setup and separated correctly.
@@ChrisRiley I’ll check again. But they should be right :)
@@ChrisRiley same here. The base directories are separated but the port 5001 and above just bounce back to the same instance. Something in the start up of the second server says something about preemptive caching base_url with localhost:5000, if that makes any sense.
While this will be nice for quite a few and I personally think now a old laptop/desktop would be an amazing little octoprint machine WINDOWS SUCKS. Regardless of settings or programs I use windows will restart itself at some point to update. I'd rather use Linux and have a machine with way less bloat especially for older machines.
Thanks for your insight!
You can disable automatic restart. It's not as simple as clicking several buttons, but there is many tutorial in the web. I have octoprint on 2 laptops, one with Windows and other one with Linux. Both works flawlessly. Windows works about 7 month without automatic restart. However, i agree that if you can install linux, theres almost no reasons to stay on windows
Наконец-то появилось нормальное видео , устал от возни с убогим pi платками.
👍🙂 Спасибо, что смотрите наши видео.
