- An award-winning, student-created documentary about the historic 1966 NCAA Championship game between Kentucky and Texas Western. This is the game that Pat Riley has called "the Emancipation Proclamation of 1966" because of it's social impact on the desegregation of college basketball.
This is a ridiculously good video. I can't believe the children who made it were 11 and 13. Thoroughly researched, well written, excellent production values... Wow. It was also crazy interesting and made me want to learn more. Great job.
Glory Road will always be my all time favorite movie - this story will forever be in my heart.
We were incredibly blessed to have had Don Haskins at UTEP for so many years. He had a lot of great teams under his tutelage.

I attended UTEP (formerly Texas Western) during the 80's and am very familiar with the 1966 championship. I must say how impressed I am with this documentary - it gave me chills and even brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful job on creating this and I am amazed at the talent level of your two young daughters. Thank you for uploading this!

Even if you take the racial aspect out of it, out in the southwest that win is still one of the greatest sports moments we have ever had out there. I am so glad Haskins got to see the film before he passed away, but I think people will start using the term "glory road" as a phrase coined for achievements they never thought were possible

If they didn't get an A that would be unbelievable. BTW, I saw their "Paradox" video. It was hilarious. What field of work did they choose cause they should dabble some more in film. Gotta be a proud dad!

I was a junior in high school when Texas Western and Kentucky faced off for the NCAA Championship. I was for the underdog and little did I know the implications of this game until years later when Glory Road come out, Hollywood version of course, and I always wanted Coach Haskins (RIP) to win another title. He was truly the "icebreaker" in a segregated college sports world and brought me to the realization what "We are Penn State" meaning.

Excellent job ladies! My middle school students watched Glory Road for the first time and was surprised to learn it was based on a true story. Your documentary helped to pull things together for them!
To the students who did this movie. I hope you realize it will be viewed hundreds of years from now. Excellent job and thank you. Hopefully it will be viewed during a time when it will seem primitive to have judge someone by their race.
It is difficult for humans to overcome the natural inclination to form groups. Group formation is genetically programmed as a matter of survival. Tearing down the walls of Injustice and prejudice is a human evolutionary process. That process was expedited exponentially by this basketball game.

A well done short documentary, it gets right to the point and supports what it says.
I don't mean to cause any trouble, but I have to respectfully disagree on some parts about Adolph Rupp. Rupp did try to recruit black players, and had a similar way of thinking as Haskins; that if a player would help him win, it didn't matter what color their skin was. Rupp made efforts to recruit African Americans Wes Unseld and Butch Beard, among others, but couldn't guarantee their safety in the segregated Southeastern Conference, so those two played for other teams instead. In addition, Kentucky willingly played teams from unsegregated conferences when other teams from their own conference turned down the invitations, because they may have to play against unsegregated teams. Again, im not here to start trouble, im just telling my take on this specific aspect. Still, a very well done documentary, I enjoyed it very much
Actually he had a commitment from Butch Beard as well, but apparently Beard had already signed a letter of intent to UL so Rupp had to relent. There were a couple articles in the Courier Journal about it at the time.

I enjoyed the movie, great documentary. I just wish that the game was clear. I didn't know Pat Riley play for Kentucky he's my favorite coach for the Lakers back in the 70s

I remember those years in the mid-sixties, racism was still a problem, even in integrated Los Angeles where I grew up. I remember telling tasteless racist jokes as a teenager and not thinking I needed to do anything to stop prejudice and the segregation mind-set. I just thought that was the way everyone was supposed to be, we, those who chose not to relinquish our prejudice, all were afraid what our peers would think of us if we were to take the step toward peace and what was right by accepting blacks, Mexicans and people of different cultures as equals.
The point we were at took over a hundred years to get to; from the first drops of blood of the Civil War; to Brown vs. Board of Education (1954), (with almost no effect), then to Brown II, (with very little effect), then about 10 years to the Civil Rights Act, (with some change, after a MLK followed by a restless period of violence and civil unrest, then 10 more years (1974) to Boston bussing, and Hank Aaron getting death threats. But when I see these stories like; Jesse Owens; Joe Louis; Jackie Robinson; Muhammad Ali; "Remember the Titans"; Texas Western U; Pete Maravich; Earl Monroe; and others. Now I am amazed at their fortitude and courage, compared to my cowardice and I regret knowing I could have done more.

Love the constant put down (of Texas Western....a team that only plays an individual style game.....they really don;t have much of a chance....Kentucky lost the championship) by the play-by-play commentators, they must have slept bad that night!!
This seems equivalent to "The Man Who Out-ran Hitler"; Jesse Owens. Hitler claimed the superiority of the "white race" and was appalled when Jesse Owens beat every one of his German "super-race" athletes. It is reported after awhile whenever Owens entered the arena to compete, Hitler would make a stir by getting up and leaving, in an attempt to work up the crowd to hatred. But even some of the German competitors began to show respect for Owens for his magnificent abilities. One even came to Owens and give him advice with a certain event.
