Love that motor, it sucks when it dies though and doesn't want to start, in a middle of an ocean like it happened to me lol.

yea I had that issue when I ran out of gas the first time. I now can tell when its getting low and try to keep gas at half or full when possible...

Yes, I will try to get one posted. I actually deflate it and put in the back of my truck with the motor. Stores pretty easy in a bag. I was able to take it all up and down Florida doing islands really easy... Love the portability. I have even seen people store them in their cars!!!

I just bought a 420lx with a 15hp motor. Do you have any recommendations for coolers that I could fit on the Takacat to carry supplies or possibly mount some fishing rod holders to?

I use a couple different small cooler, one small one to hold whistle, lights cell phone etc and then I use either a cooler bag or larger cooler for lots of food and drinks. I measured the one side of the tube to the other and found a cooler that fit in between the tubes. If you find one you could mount some fishing rod holder to it.

Hi - how do you like the 6hp on that boat? I have a custom built one from the mfg coming and trying to decide on a motor. Been debating a 9.8,9.9 or a 20hp. If the 6hp works, maybe the 9.8 is plenty.
I had a 15 footer made in HD material for Alaska waters to go out in the shallow bays and rivers so it's a little heavier than a 420lx but not that different from a 460lx.

I would go 9.8 if possible!!!

I'll be buying new from the dealer so I can choose any size and the prices are close enough that I don't mind jumping up to as big as 20hp. Since the 9.9, 15, and 20hp are all the same motor it seems like the choice is between 9.8 that's about 20lbs lighter and 20hp that's heavier but has extra power if I ever really need it. If the 9.8 will be enough though I'd rather have the lighter weight. The $600ish savings is nice too.
I'd just hate to get out in a tide current or wind and not have enough power. I'm in Alaska and we get 30 foot tide changes every day and the current can be as high at 5kts in the inlets.
But your boat looks like it did great with 6hp.

@@MrJcjet wait your talking about the 420lx I would go 20hp if portability isn’t and issue since 20hp motors are heavy. I used the 6hp BC it was light and easy to transport. I now use a new 15hp Suzuki on my 420lx.

@@deckswateradventures9201Yes. Mine is a 4.5 meter version with slightly bigger 50mm side tubes than the takacat model. I had it made direct from the mfg and shipped to me to be a little more heavy weather ready because the Alaska waters are so cold and remote that a failure can be legitimately life threatening
I'll also use it with a rowing frame on the big rivers here like a cataraft. I think it'll be an excellent dual purpose boat for exploring fjords on calm days, salmon fishing along the coastal areas, and floating the rivers. Just need a motor at this point.
I think I'll probably go for the 20hp and deal with the extra weight.
Do you feel like the transom is okay with that weight on it? That's one of my concerns - can the boat handle the force on the tubular style transom? It's a new design to me that I've never had before.
I've found your videos really helpful!!

Was your experience that the lesser horsepower motors tend to work with fewer problems on the 420? I wasn’t sure if you just didn’t like the larger motor or if you feel the Takacat is better suited for the smaller (6 hp) motor. Thx

I loved the larger motor, however the weighed on the wheels was an issue. I love the 6hp, light and portable and easy to put in the water and pull out. For me it was all about portability.
