    I bought the same model. I love it. I use a epropulsion spirit outboard. Best dingy I've ever had. No more scooping out water after a rain. Light enough to drag a shore

      Jupz 7 months later and we are still very happy with the Takacat!!

    Thank you for this one. I bought a 300 version and am bringing to my sailboat in Grenada. In my case I purchased a Torqeedo outboard so that I can remove all gasoline from the boat. Charge the battery from solar. A remaining question is how to lock this dinghy at the dinghy dock? You answered the other questions I had.
    I measured the 300 version that I have, it is exact weight(48 lbs) and size(62" LxWxD) to ride on airplane as checked luggage. The Torqeedo also travels on the airplane, just keep the battery with you in the cabin, not checked luggage.
    I found my 300 is nimble when rowing - makes fast progress with little effort. The rowing seating is comfortable also.
    Looking forward to using my 300 this winter.

      If only we had the space. A 300 is a better size! And I fully agree on you with the rowing. Nice going on the electric drive😃
      We have a 5 m cable lock with an eye on both ends. We put it around the stainless fram and loop it through itselfs. And the other end we lock it to the dock.

    I am in Tahiti Marina Papeete myself and curious to know what customs fees had to be paid when you imported from New Zealand? Really good review and looks like a great craft. Sun cover a good idea I should think. Cheers

    Very interesting construction. Maybe best for use in warmer waters than the Baltic Sea, but that's no problem for you guys of course!!

      Well the design comes from New-Zealand. Where the water is not much warmer than the Netherlands. I guess with the raised floor it is actually warmer on your feet and. The dinghy floor is most of the time dryer than a normal one. 🙂

      @@SVTranquillity That sounds really good. Kiwi-design, nice! Well, with summers getting warmer even up here in Scandinavia this might be an alternative here as well. Have never seen one like this before, though.

    Maybe string netting across the transom to help keep items aboard.

    Dear Bart,
    How many HP outboard engine would be minimal or comfortable with the same dinghy and 2 persons only?
    Kind regards and happy sailing, Pieter

      @SVTranquillity  3 місяці тому

      Hi Pieter,
      We could not get our takacat planing with our 6 hp 4 stroke. So if ypu are able to fit an 8 hp 2 stroke you keep the same weight and you must be able to plane.
      If you do not need to plane a 5 hp for two will be very okay. Even 4 maybe

    Very good demo. Thank you!! what engine size do you have? Is it 2-stroke or 4-stroke? It looks like it will plane with one person with your engine. I have the same dinghy - now trying to pick an outboard. My (old) 2hp Honda will not get it to plane. I think I need 3.5 hp. Have you ever tried to use just the floor as a stand-up paddle board? (may need to strap a fin under it for directional control(?)

    • @SVTranquillity
      @SVTranquillity  11 місяців тому +2

      Thank you!
      We have a 6 hp 4 stroke engine on it. It planes with one person and Liz in it (13 knots) But it does not plane with all three. I think it would be nice with a 2 stroke 8hp😃
      I think a 4 hp will get it to plane with one person.
      We have not tried to use it as a paddle board, because we have one. I guess you miss out on the fin yes.
      But it would be a fun thing for kids just behind the boat to have fun on the water

    My Takacat is rusting!
    The transom tubes of the open transom are made of stainless steel 304 (V2A) (also for cost reasons). The tubes show ugly rust after a short time in a salt water environment.
    From my point of view, the maintenance is very time-consuming and is not reasonable for me. Unfortunately, I only found out about this disadvantage of the high maintenance effort after the purchase. For me, this product is not recommended for salt water environments.
    I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with the Takacat 340 LS for the above reasons. It does not meet my expectations and, in my opinion, is only partially suitable for my application as a full time yacht tender.
    I quote from Takacat's care instructions: 1. A first care step when driving in salt water is washing the transom tubes at the end of a trip with fresh water (fresh water) including thorough drying. 2. The insides of the transom tubes can be pulled through with an extra-long bottle brush. 3. If corrosion has formed, it can be removed with a stainless steel cleaner. 4. If you drive permanently in salt water, it is advisable to spray the transom tubes and optional slip wheels with a seawater-resistant stainless steel protector.
    Did you experience similar issues?
    Best regards
    Xaver

      @SVTranquillity  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi Xaver, thanks for your response. We have been using the takacat now for 4 months in salt water only. We do see some rust on the stainless where the wheels can be attached. But it does look the same compared to all our other stainless on the boat. We do not rinse our takacat often with fresh water. And we do not see any stains yet on the tubes.
      We clean the rust from the stainless with oxalic acid btw.

    Looks great, it does seem that there is a little less floor space, especially with the seating cushion in place, can you get all the groceries in there?

    • @SVTranquillity
      @SVTranquillity  11 місяців тому +1

      Yep that's right. Mainly because of the air seat. So if we do big groceries we leave the seat at home.
      The seat is very nice when planing on your own though.

    leuk deze aflevering en leerzaam. Ik had ook graag gezien hoe jullie hem in elkaar hebben gezet. Is hij ook geschikt voor een kouder klimaat denk je?

    • @SVTranquillity
      @SVTranquillity  11 місяців тому +1

      Jazeker ook geschikt voor ietwat kouder klimaat zoals Nederland.
      We hebben bewust niet gekozen voor een langer versie met uitpakken. Omdat we op youtube zagen dat er al zeker 2 of 3 uitpak video's zijn.

    Do you flush the outboard with freshwater when you’re at sea or you just use it so much it doesn’t need flushing?

    • @SVTranquillity
      @SVTranquillity  8 місяців тому

      No we use it so much indeed. We will flush the outboard with fresh water when we will not use for multiple months.
