I once listed to a white Jazz saxophonist on youtube, he said "you don't create a story on jazz ,you just ride on some changes!!!" As a Jazz student I, obviously, was amazed!!! Riding some changes with CHORD SCALES??? I thought something is wrong somewhere!!! Liten, man, all this soloists are saying something or statements in their improvisations, not just riding some changes!!! Bravo Jazz Prophets!!!
From under what rock did you emerge?
miss Roy Hargrove, gone far too soon. he had a unique talent, his solos showed much knowledge, depth and vibrancy. thank you for posting Bret
sadly, one of the great tragedies of this music, the loss so many young trumpeters, from Fats, to Booker, to Brownie, to Lee Morgan, Woody Shaw and Roy
Hey man I love this after the late youngest jazz trumpeter, Roy Hargrove played his virtuosic, lovely solo now he watches his gigantic/ composer/ mentor playing this magnificent sax solo!!! Wow!!! Jazz is lovely, more especially when it's played by its founders, blaCKS!!!
Normally, I would delete a racist comment like this but instead, I'll leave it up so my viewers can see just how fucked up the world is today.
This is wonderful stuff. Also, I could not help but realise that this was still 'early days' in the development of Stefon Harris! He went yonder to greater achievement later . Curtis Fuller has that wonderfully 'different' meaty tone, even when playing very quick multi-note phrases! Marks his sound, does it not?! Golson and Fuller go back decades when they were together with Art Farmer. I wonder whatever became of Addison Farmer, the bass player brother of Art. We know where McCoy Tyner went, of course!!
You know your Jazz.
Huh Bret! Thanks. But I'm far more pleased the players know far more about performing and honing their craft. Ever since learning about Bird's (and Coltrane too of course) near maniacal commitment to 'woodshedding', I have been impressed at how men and women 'get there'. I've learned about Betty Carter among the ladies of song. Phew!
It's so wonderful to listen to such good music. Delini
Fantastic trumpet player. Benny gave him plenty of time.
Great playing by everyone.
There's a great Roy Hargrove video coming up, from the same gig, where he plays Benny's immortal composition, I Remember Clifford.
Way to go, JVG!
Is that key C#minor
Greetings from Thailand. Gorgeous playing from all involved. Pure beauty.❤
Hello Thailand.
Mon Dieu ! Quelle merveille !
Isn't it the most beautiful standard ever composed ?
