  • We decided to get on with a project that’s we’ve wanted to do for some time and that is to create a rill. It’s a big project and so this is the first phase - the dig out. This is definitely the unglamorous side of gardening, mud, rain and more mud!!!! Hopefully it will be worth the pain and destruction 🤞

Cant wait for the project of capturing the clouds and sun on the water.

It will all be worth it when you are sitting in your summer house with a glass of wine on a lovely summers evening.

It may take longer but we learn new skills along the way and it’s good fun seeing what we can achieve.
      Thanks for watching

Oh my word! What a project! I think you two must be gluttons for punishment. How wonderful though to have a partner who sees your vision and jumps right in to help bring it to fruition.
Any chance you have drone footage of your garden? Would love to see all parts of it from above.

Yes, Al is so wonderful, I’m very lucky, nothing is too much trouble and he has great vision too. It’s a great hobby to share, we have good fun.
A video called ‘Late Summer Garden Tour’ has got drone footage of the garden so you can see the context of each area. Thanks for watching

Looking forward to seeing how this comes along. To me it adds an Italianate feeling to this part of the garden.

Your soil looks beautiful dark and rich. When i was used to do gardening in SE England, i had to deal with sticky clay (a nightmare to deal with).
A pound sounds like a good idea but I imagine it to be a lot of work in terms of maintenance. Looking forward to see the end result.

Our soil is very sandy so it needs a lot of organic matter but it’s so easy to work with compared to clay. Thanks for watching

love your garden!I see a 'Rill"?..ok im in New York USA,i have been in the pool biz, for 50 yrs....im thinking how do you keep this clean? leaves and debris, dirt, grass, how about algae growing and mosquitos?....around here this would turn green and be a mess once its June......please think thru your maintenance.....how about when it rains hard, overflow? or very hot refilling.filtration needed? chems? looks like fun...good luck

Thank you. We will definitely have to think it all through carefully to avoid all the issues you highlight and will need a pump and overflow facility.
I hope we can pull it off, if not you will have to pop over and sort it out for us!! 🤣

How exciting! Your hornbeam really do look amazing and inspired me to plant a hornbeam hedge this winter.
I look forward to seeing your progress. We have rain in Wales today but hopefully you don't have snow.

Thank you. We have a bit of wet, slushy snow, think I’d rather have crisp and frosty, less muddy paws! 🐾

@@MurphysGardenoh I can relate to that as we have two dogs.
I noticed Murphy had boots in a video when you both pruned the hornbeams. Are they anti dig? Or were his feet sore?

I think you are very kind, I think we are completely mad! We are now on a crazy redecorating frenzy, the house is a tip and the garden has a big hole in it!! Sometimes a bit of adrenaline gets the job done - I hope! Think I will be putting up the tree on Christmas Eve - what have we done??? 🤪
