You also got lucky that both Emma and Amy bankrupted on you, giving you all their properties. You shouldn't be able to lower your bid on an auction either. You should have never removed the houses from the greens in the first place, and just left them at three each. You actually threw away $900 there. Then you threw away another $450 removing them from the oranges. You should have then built the orange up to 3 houses each, and then the red to three houses each. You would have won more quickly.
When I play, if I have the money, no matter what, I just build houses on monopolies. Think about it, its either money in your hand, or money on the board. If you land on a killer property, just sell those houses. On the other hand, having as many up as you possibly can, you have more of a chance of people landing on your properties.

In the critical position of the game, one of my opponents had the only complete colour set of the game (the dark blues), but they didn't have a losince they landed on my property a lot. Another opponent had two of the oranges and some others( including a green which I wanted as it would complete a set for me), but had a lot of money. I had the other orange, both utilities, two greens, two yellows, a red and maybe even some other less valuable colours and railroads. I essentially controlled the side with the red and yellow properties on it, and continued to gobble up property. The unusual thing was that rather than gaining the green for the orange( which I was reluctant to give away at first) , I eventually sacrificed my orange, and in return I got £800 and absolutely crippled my opponent, exploiting his mistake. I went on to gobble up rent from my opponents and win that game. What a shrewd sacrifice!

I realize that you still came out on top, but why the hell would you sell multiple houses on and mortgage the Red and Orange properties in favor of building houses on Green and still lose cash? This is the most counter-intuitive play I've ever seen. Monopoly champions and strategists will ridicule you for this.
Everyone has different strategies!!! My strategy is own all train stations, all light blues, purples and oranges. Then just own 1 of every other colour. It's hugely expensive, but it's a guaranteed win every time!!!
NEVER sell houses in order to move them. You're better off buying houses when the players get close to the area and play the waiting game. You'll lose money if you move houses around.
Statistically speaking the green and dark blue color groups are the worst on the board in terms of # of terms it takes to get back your money. While orange, pink, and Light blue are the best. The return of interest on dark blue and Green are very risky properties to start with. I like getting me a color group on the first half of the board and then use the rent from there to fund my more expensives properties.

The only version to play is the british one. I mean look at how much a GBP is worth compared to an american dollar. Richer country, much more class. Better for monopoly.

if you have one of every color in a game of 4, you already have more than anyone else. Winning from there is easy. It requires a lot of luck, though. Ok, winning against a dumb AI that throws properties at you of course requires no luck :P
I am not sure if you realise this Ginger, but the optimal strategy changes with the number of players. I can win with all numbers of players, but 4 players is the most difficult to ensure victory. With 4 players i have the lowest winning percentage. I'd challenge anyone in a one on one (2 player) game. I've never lost a 2 player game.
