Can't tell you how many videos I've watched testing silicone verses none. For some reason, after watching yours, I decided to test it. I had 3 canvasses I wanted to paint over. So I did all without any silicone. I got cells like I've never gotten before! And all the new paintings came out great! Thanks for doing this. :)

You experiments help save me a lot of paint and also to know what to buy for pouring mediums. Your humor and honesty is so very rare. Also you take the stress from me by you just being you. I have already got my Mont marte paint and waiting for the clear glue to get here and then I'm going to do my first swipe. I'm really excited to get started. I also have shared your videos to my friends and to myself so I'm sitting on ready. Thank you my friend for all you do. I really hope you read this so you will know just how much you are truly appreciated.
Thank you for your candor, Gilly. Your sense of humor in addressing ‘tools’ was absolutely priceless ~ your art is stunning! Keep on painting my friend!!!
Fantastic, loved the end results. You never know what will happen when you experiment. Having fun and its only paint is a great way to do your artwork. Thank you for sharing your time, your character and your true talent,
I so appreciate your honesty! When you try a technique that another artist used, you always give them credit. Not all artists do that. You are so creative and have such a lovely positive attitude. I've learned so much from watching your videos! So tragic about the fires in your beautiful country. Praying for your continued safety and that the fires will soon be out.
PS Gilly, just some history about this technique you probably already know, but what the heck here it is anyway. When artist David Alfaro Siqueiros first discovered his “accidental painting” technique in the 1930s, the simplicity of the process coupled with its elaborate results riveted him. Siqueiros simply poured different colour paints onto a wooden panel, allowing the different colours to spread, coalesce, and infiltrate one another. Black paint, for instance, tends to be less dense than white paint. Consequently, Zenit and Zetina found that pouring white paint onto black paint would lead to the desired mixing. Black on white, however, would not. One of Siqueiros's student in his experimental lab in New York was Jackson Pollock. Siqueiros was experimenting with the new paints, acrylic. Otto Röhm invented acrylic resin, which was quickly transformed into acrylic paint. As early as 1934, the first usable acrylic resin dispersion was developed by German chemical company BASF, which was patented by Rohm and Haas. The synthetic paint was first used in the 1940s, combining some of the properties of oil and watercolor.PPS: Try and find MelyD.artist she never uses silicon, however she places the paint on the canvas then moves it very fast..time lapse camera shows the cells formulating as you watch them....There is also an another artist in Canada Elysia fortu( oh I cannot spell her name, but she also does not use silicon to the best of by knowledge.
Some days you really crack me up! I love watching your videos. It helps when you say what you are thinking or trying to decide what you want to do. Don't stop. You are my favorite pour painting instructor/demonstrator!
You are a wonderful teacher! And I find your voice to be so soothing - could watch your videos all day! Thanks so much for continuing to teach and help me expand my art journey! 💗 Going to have to try a Gilly swipe after pre-mixing paints 24 hours in advance!
I am new to this type of painting. and I love your results. I love your videos. I have no idea how people can leave negative comments on any of your works of art. They are amazing. I love love love all of the pictures I have seen so far & cant wait to try them.
I've done experiments also and I discovered that when I use floetrol without adding silicone I get cells. I live in the US so it's inexpensive for me to use glue and water and if I want cells using glue and water I have to add the silicone. I'm so happy you're getting rain! Love from Texas!
Fabulous Gilly.....your commentary has had me in fits of giggles & that’s how it should be ! Very interesting to see the difference in using/not using silicone.
Finally...... So glad I found your videos. Your common sense, easy does it attitude has been very encouraging.. AND... I finally got the right consistency using your advice. WOHOOO...So many complicated recipes... but you made it simple....Thank you...
LOL I love you Gilly!! Don't let anyone tell you differently, you really are a great teacher, and fabulous artist no matter what you're doing. Thanks so much, from the bottom of my heart, I've have been and continued to be, inspired greatly by your awesome videos!
Hello from Virginia USA. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us. Quick FYI you can get nice cells with Flowatrol or over seas it's called Owetrol I believe. It's a fabulous medium. I have stopped using silicone almost all together. Those balloon role are gorgeous. Im gonna try the clear PVA glue. Thanx again.
Your paint stand is such a great idea. Next time I get something packed with styrofoam I will try and make one. I LOVE your happy positive attitude Gilly!!
Gilly , I love how you speak your mind on the negative Nellies. Or what did you call them negative nanas. Lol!! For some reason for several days I didn’t get notified you were doing any videos. Thought you were taking a couple of days off. Then I started having Gilly withdrawals and looked you up . Resubscribed and we are back on track . Thank you for showing your paint tray . I’ve always wondered what that was . Brilliant! Love your simple solutions to what can be big problems. Thank you so much . Great successes to you !

You produce such beautiful pieces of art, love watching your videos. The people that frown on silicone generally don’t use it because they’re too lazy to clean it off after the piece is dry!
Art is for the Brave and Adventurous! I believe that if we don t venture into the many possibilities we are missing out on what in the end is one of the greatest thrills. Many Congrats for being such an Artist!❤️🤗🌈
Hi Gilly. Thanks for the experiment. The clear Mont Marte craft glue was not listed on the contact site you provided for the U.S. so I contacted Mont Marte and they did reply that this item is not offered at this time in the U.S. but hopefully in the future it will be. Just an FYI. Have a great day!
Thanks for producing your channel. Very helpful resource for nontraditional painting techniques. Negative Nutters. Indeed. Clearly have no idea how dangerous it has always been to work with art materials. Lastly, I love the mix of Australia and England's Birmingham in your accent. Clearly as unique as you are.
Dear Gilly, I use Mont Marte PVA craft glue 1 litre bottle. Dries clean and non-toxic. It cost me $8.00 for 1 litre, although from another store not the one I have on Mount Tamborine it could be cheaper again. Works well for me. I have no idea how much the other Mont marte cost, but this is cheap. I also have floetrol to experiment with as well...Cheers from Mount Tamborine Gold Coast Hinterland.
Deborah Gallo yes iv used the mm pva glue but I do find the clear mm craft glue excellent for cells and vibrant finish to paints, it’s about $5 for 500ml so $10 a litre, happy painting
You can suspend the cord around you neck or sholder if it's long enough..ach to your tabl... thats what I do or devise a hook that you can suspend from the ceiling or clamp on to your work table... it does'nt have to be in the way while you use your tool. The end results is Perfect..... it WORKS !!!
I love your directness and honesty. I wonder if I can get the Helmers silicone here in the states. Off to hunt for it. Thanks for your delightful experiments.
YOU GOOOOOO GILLY !!!!! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU !!!!!!!!! IT ALWAYS SEEMS LIKE FOR ALL GOOD YOU DO TO MAKE IT SAFER FOR YOURSELF N OTHERS , THAT A PERSON WILL TRY TO BRING IT DOWN. WELL LET ME TELL YOU THIS , I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THEM ON THEIR CHANNELS WITH ONE TOO . SO YOU HAVE HELPED OTHERS THERE BECAUSE ALL YOU SAID I AGREE 100% .. YOU JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU BEEN DOING RIGHT ALONG AND THE ONES WHO KNOW YOU ARE RIGHT WILL BACK YOU LIKE MYSELF N IM SURE MANY OTHERS WILL TOO. HAPPY POURING GILLY !!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for showing us this experiment Julie. The two effects on the same painting could be great if you were creating a certain look. Ah ha!! Yes, like you just did with the round comb!

Thanks for this Gilly as I am not a total fan of cells and was wondering if there was a way to pour and not get cells or at least a minimal amount of cells. Not so much with swiping but something like a dutch pour for a beach pour I did not really want a whole heap of cells, I will definitely give it a go to try all paints of same brand with just the glue and water PM. I have heard using a pearl/metalic paint of a variety of different brand paints will cause cells to will have to test that theory out.
Thank you so so much Gilly! I ALWAYS learn something from you! Now I know when to use silicone and when not to. And all from those bonus bits! ;-) Much Love from USA!
