  • A President of the United States once called Matt Urban "the Greatest Soldier in American history."
Most history buffs are familiar with Audie Murphy, the much celebrated "most decorated solder of World War II," but a good argument can be made that Matt Urban is actually the most decorated soldier of World War II.
Check out our video on the top-10 World War II badasses (spoiler alert: both Audie and Urban are on it) - • Top-10 WWII Badasses! ...

For each of them that made it alive, many didn't who were equally brave and attempted equally risky goals. And much more died bravely as well, just doing what had to be done, without being particularly suicidal/self-sacrificial or temerary. This has to be said, not to diminish anybody's merits, rather the contrary: to remember how many good men were ready to risk their lives with courage and a healthy, just normal then, sense of honor.
Today, we are not so different. The experience of war is luckily rarer, but when war breaks out and people have to face it, like in Ukraine, we can see again how many men and women remain as brave as yesteryear.

Hero? Indeed! 🇺🇲 His story should be told in every school's classroom. Why isn't this a movie? Our younger generation needs this type of inspiration. Not politics Posing as Patriotism, this is the real thing. Our kids also need to know the stories from WW2 England. What it was like to live in constant fear of the bombs, many killed trying to get to the bomb shelters in time!

That has been everyday life for over 70 years for modern day Israel. I can't think of another Nation on earth that has to have mandatory bomb shelters in most public buildings. One of the major reasons WWII was fought was to stop the systematic slaughter and genocide of the Jewish People and still to this day, even WWII was not enough to stop the pure hatred and murderous rage against the Jewish People.

I’m sure Hollywood would have seen his story as so fantastic that audiences just wouldn’t believe it. And with today’s management they would find his type of heroism deplorable. Not woke.

Nice video I had commented on one of your other videos that featured Matt Urban. We have an athletic complex in the city of Holland and a street that bears his name in honor of his service. There is one story that you forgot to tell and it involves a German who could speak a little bit of English and would say hey Joe it’s all clear luring unsuspecting GIs into an ambush. He crawled on his belly through the dark to the top of the ridge circled around the machine gun nest the German was occupying and took that German out and the last words that German heard was Matt saying hey Joe it’s all clear he also took two other German soldiers out as well. I am so honored to have had the chance to meet him and hear his stories and those stories I will never forget.

There are not words or medals enough to express such uncommon valor and heroism or our gratitude. What an awe inspiring man. Just beyond incredible. Mr. Ragone, thank you for this longer format tribute to this truly valiant American warrior.

I met Matt Urbin in 1983 when he visited Zeeland High School in Zeeland, MI. The picture of him standing in front of the welcome sign was in front of the Holland Civic Center, Holland, MI.
I thought he was BA then, but he never went into such detail of his heroic deeds.
But that was true Matt, he cared for others above himself.

A film about this astonishing man might be one of the most costly.
Needed would be multiple battle scenes.
Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan
      had multiple characters.
Matt Urbana’s life would require much poetic license.
Finding those who knew him in MI would be very helpful.
His original surname sounds Jewish, but he was clearly a Christian. Many of the most religious and inspirational films have done very well indeed. The MSM ignores this.
When the world is in great turmoil, people have a thirst for the meaning of their lives.
As we all sit here, deep down, we realize we may be on the brink of WW III.
After 9/11, the churches were filled, with standing room only. ( One of our children was in the North Tower when the plane hit. Her work was at a law firm, mere yards from the TT. What unfolded was the stuff of nightmares.
Yes, his life was astonishing. Brutal as a bomb and and tender as a rose.
I wonder if he was ravaged after the war?
I wonder if he was a quiet man.

Most people are forgotten compared to people like Murphy and others who are just as good but didn't have the appeal of the pretty Hollywood boys. The average soldier who saw combat and did these heroic things are top notch in my book, worst part is the awesome work of this guy is a one man wrecking crew on so many occasions he should have had a movie made about him because you telling his story is like a fictional story book about a great soldier that was created by a writer for the movies but thanks to you his story is a great factual history of a great soldier that was as realistic as the sun rising in the east in the morning. I know all about Audie Murphy, everyone watching this channel does. To me Audie will always be, "The Most Decorated Soldier." But that takes Nothing away from Matt Urban. I'm fact, I'd bet the farm that both Audie and Matt would give the honor of, "Most Decorated" to the other. As I was listening to the exploits of Matt Urban, as you described his actions on top of the turret, I thought how that was so similar to actions by Audie Murphy. Then I had the thought, How many men, whose names we'll never know, did the same thing! Many, I'm sure. If the truth were known, and medals awarded appropriately, perhaps both Audie and Matt would not be the most decorated American soldiers. I love hearing their stories though, and they are beyond Hero status to me!

The name Urban causes a lot of issues.
In the world of Karate there is a man named Peter Urban. For years when I heard his stories I thought he was an "Urban Legend".🥋

First of all others have done the whole story of Matt Urbain, including with animation, I already made a comment about the fact that he was extremely lucky that his heroism did not get him into trouble for disobeying orders you see when they evacuate to Hospital you cannot leave the hospital with without permission when you do that it is called AWOL. He broke alot of rules doing what he did, but I think the fact that he got back there did the job he had to do. it would eventually cost him his life doing it, but let’s face it they couldn’t court Marshall and they couldn’t punish him and he’s considered the most decorated soldier. Most purple hearted soldier of World War II and I know about him that isn’t somebody knew why don’t you do somebody that hasn’t been done by others they’re plenty of them. And a lot of women vets too who did a great many things some of whom aren’t very well known try a couple of them.

I'd like to think it was a snafu that "lost" Lt Col Urban's paperwork for the Medal of Honor. But, the military, like any large organization, has politics. This man who had already amassed a huge cadre of military awards and accommodations, MAY have been subjected to jealousy and resentment from those who outranked and commanded him. But, I rather choose to believe the paperwork submitted was "lost" and then "found" decades later, so that Lt Col Urban could be awarded the MoH posthumously. RIP Lt Col America.

I'm 70 years old. My Dad fought under Patton's 3rd Army. He was in the 5th division. He was a B.A.R Man. He told me about several battles at an older age. Several included the hedge rows and liberating St.Lo twice. The 2nd time he was set up in the church tower. He was later wounded along the banks of the Sain

Seine river August 24th 1944. He was awarded the Bronze star, purple 💜 and the infantryman badge. Watching TV with me one night a story on the evening news about battle shock in all the wars from WW1 TO now. He just looked at me and said " I never left that bother me, I just did what I was told ". He was truly my personal Hero. Along with thousands of other brave men and women. I would live to share the book that my Dad signed for his children to this gentalman that posted this video on such an American Hero.
