Public & Private Universities in USA: A peek inside Stanford University, Palo Alto, California

Stanford University is a world famous non-profit private university located in the Palo Alto city in California. Though USA has more than 1500 public universities funded by the federal and State Governments, University of California in Berkeley and Los Angeles are more famous and well known amongst them all, there are more than 4000 private universities. The famous Ivy League universities numbering 8 (Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Dartmouth, UPen, Brown, Cornell ), MIT and Stanford are some of the more famous private universities which is joined by diverse students from USA and abroad. These are non-profit private universities liberally supported by their alumni financially. There are over 1700 non-profit and more than 2200 for-profit private universities. Stanford was established in the year 1885 by a railroad magnet Leland Stanford and his wife Jane in the memory of their only son who died at the age of 15! This university is recognised by a a group of inter-connected buildings called Quad which is the hallmark of Stanford.
