Thanks, your video saved me $535.00
I read up diy write up on e46fanatics forum, but watching this video make me more confident replacing all the mounts.
It is a great forum and a very helpful community. I am glad the video could be helpful. Thank you for watching!
Just did my 01 325Ci, took a bit to jockey the new ones into place but got it done without too much fuss. The video helped a lot- thanks!
+Evan W We are very glad to hear that it was helpful :) Hopefully you will find more helpful videos on our channel :) Thank you for watching us!
Cheers for this video. Big help and turned the motor mounts into a 45 minute job on my e39 (with m54).
So you have the 530i right ? If so is it the same procedure?
If I just need to jack up engine a little to remove the transmission cooler lines, can I just loosen the bottom nut on thr engine mounts?
This video is THE ONLY ONE ON UTUBE showing that mounts can be changed from the wheel well, rather than from below. I will certainly try this, but the underpanels still have to be removed in order to lift the engine. And on my M3 this may be different, perhaps not enough space for the offset wrench?
excellent guide my friend.thank you very much. will be doing this tomorrow. did you replace with febi/lemforder? or cheaper? very expensive parts
Wow. I thought you have to take off more parts like the sub frame but this looks easy with your video. Thanks!
stkyrce thank you for watching. It is not very complicated procedure :)
Great video. Is this the same procedure for my bmw x3 2006? I have a bad passenger engine mount (right). do I need to replace the driver side (left) as well? If I don't have to replace the driver side mount, do I have to unbolt the driver side mount before raising the engine? I hope I can get away from unbolting on the driver side mount just to save time. But I also don't want to break anything.
Quang Vo I believe it will be almost the same procedure. On the 3'series you can replace only one side at the time but try not to jack the engine up too much so you do not cause damage to the other (left mount). Thank you for watching!
Thank you for your reply. If I'm doing only one mount, is it important that I raise the engine in the center?
Quang Vo You will need to raise only on the side that you will need to replace.
World Mechanics thanks. I have one more concern. when I lower the jack support for the engine.. if I went too far and lower it too much, would it cause any damage? or would it fall directly on the passenger engine mount (the side the needed to replaced)?
Are the mounts equal ? As I see, there are 2 holes on the top of driver side mount.
If your E46 still has the original engine mounts then replacing them is one of the best maintainance jobs you can do for it, the difference is night and day as your will will idle and drive so much smoother.
While you're at, replace the transmission mounts as well.
is the process about the same for an e36 328i?
Quick question Do you torque the motor mounts?
Yes, torque everything where possible and sensible
I look down in the same place that you are looking at and I don't see any clear space at all. This must be a later model, or maybe you took some things off. I don't have nearly as much room as you are showing on that side of the engine.
+Larry I what engine is yours and what year?
Can you reach the top nut of the mount, driver side, from under car. There is a space
next to it under car ??
This is not so simple if you have a "x" (AWD). When you jack up the engine, the front axle shaft hits the steering shaft. I had to loosen the rear stucture/member that hold the lower control arm and pry like crazy to barely make enough clearnece. Glad I did. It solved the vibration at driving speed (just like unbalanced tire).
Jim G great advice! Thank you for sharing the procedure.
I'm having the same problem with clearance on the driver side.. help please. How did you do it?
I have an x3 but cannot get enough clearance on the driver side
Is it same like e39 ?
just did my e34 54i 1994. hard to get at drivers side. had to take out ,took out alternator to reach top nut
took out power steering pump too. while at it belts and belt tentioner too.
I just got my car a year ago, I’ve been trying find out why it was idling hard even after fixing the the misfires and vacuum leak.
Thank you! will try this soon!
lameyste You are welcome. If you have any questions just let me know. Good luck!
