The designer of this ride is Triotech Amusement. Which is the same designer who designed Wonder Mountain's Guardian in Canada's Wonderland Amusement park in Ontario, Canada.

I feel older. I miss the Knotts Beary Tales ride that was there before the Dinosaurs. Rolly Crump designed that one.
Although not a perfect ride, it was fun for what it was. Now we await Bear-y Tales...

I had never heard of this ride until it was announced it was closing which is crazy since my mom was working at Knotts at the time this video was made.
I went to iron reef when It just opened up just went to knotts again after a while and realized they closed it, it was a lot better than I thought it was but that's probably cus it was a school trip and a lot of things were a lot more fun in a large group
Recently Bob Gurr was asked to speak at Google about how they did things back in his day versus now. He mentioned that today's business ( and Imagineering ) are bogged down in too many processes, not enough "just get it done" philosophies. He cited this attraction of Iron Reef as a good example of how some Canadian company could make an attraction for ( I forget what, $3 million or so ) versus Disney Imagineering spending about $17 million on Toy Story Midway Mania. Yes, this isn't that comparable but I actually found it to be BETTER in some ways. ( I loved the multi-colored shots so you could tell who was hitting what - it helped me change the priorities of what I aimed at instead ) Sorry to hear all the hate for this ride but at a vastly lower expense I would say it provided more bang for the buck.
Its a good thing I found out about this.
My little brother doesn't like going on any of the rides expect rides like bumper cars and water rides (minus the really big one)

It's the exact same ride, plus the "kiddie" ride is based on the exact same theme that the ride was originally as it was originally a dark ride based on the bears from the new ride... it's so much better than Iron Reef due to that history aspect

If I liked Voyage to the Iron Reef better and though it was more immersive back when I was 5, I think Knott's would need to make a better excuse than the 100th Anniversary of Knott's although I do think it's a good tribute to the old dark ride but the ride shooters are only better in terms of design and they hurt my shoulder after each ride on Knott's Bear-y Tales and it just feels a bit like a ripoff to Toy Story Midway Mania now.

It's a great ride if you're a gamer. I went on this 7 times throughout the day to try and beat my scores. Good thing the lines were about 10 minutes long each time.

Took a look at this after watching a Return to the Fair POV. Good lord, that really highlights just how trashy Iron Reef was.
Yeah, the Iron Reef was terrible. But at the same time, I am glad it existed because it led to Bear-y Tales taking what was bare bones in this ride and really making it feel like "it's the shit" when it comes to it being more of a Dark Ride. Believe it or not, Bear-y Tales was considered to return as far back as 2014. But that concept got shot out for this ride instead. I'm honestly glad it didn't come out in 2015 because chances are that it would have sucked and probably could've killed the Bear-y Tales IP. Thank god for the Reef's existence.

Thank you sooo much for putting this up. Would have been kinda a let down to use a Scarryfarm ticket on this ride. This made Ozumat from WoW look realistic on the screen quality :\ I guess they wanted a ride like that Toystory one in Cali Adventures Boardwalk but even that one had props.
They shouldn't have put out much hype for this. It's so much less than I expected it to be.

They need to bring back a classic dark ride with animatronics. Iron Reef is all about ease of updates instead of immersive experience and detailed work. Need to update the ride? Just upload some new scenes to the computer.....sad. Bad choice. Bring back KoD.
Hate to say this, but that ride is never coming back. It was the most expensive one in the building and doing it nowadays would take a Disney styled budget to make it happen. That only happened once and can never happen again. But it would be great to see it and Bear-y Tales in the same park to experience...

this doesn't come close to even the oldest rides at universal, and those are 26 or more years old
BTW they had to shut down the Dino ride a few years ago because a piece of the loading dock snapped and hit a person in line.

Nick Pelayo Actually Bob Gurr didn't help design this ride. He was invited to opening ceremonies because he helped design Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. This ride was developed and designed by Triotech and Knott's. Gurr did give this ride a thumbs up, though! :)

wow.. this was bad. its just a virtual reality video game. Kingdom of the Dinosaurs was EXTREMELY nostalgic. Unfortunately it wasn't updated or maintained well like most dark rides at Disneyland that have survived the test of time.
I wish Magic Kingdom replaced their Winnie the Pooh ride for this (think of like a futuristic 20,00 Leagues Under The Sea theme to pay tribute to the original attraction) and might be a more immersive version of this with at least a few great realistic animatronics.

I like that idea but kids today don’t know what 20,000 leagues under the sea is. Disney only cashes in on what’s relevant at the time. It would most likely be marvel or frozen

That and here is a fact for you. Those Dinosaurs were built without means of repairing them. Talk about even more Maintainance issues...

BCBoy98 I had assumed this would happen because I read an article that said the kraken pulls you down to the sea floor, and I thought there would be a drop there. But it looks like the ride system can't handle that

This was like a crazy on rails arcade shooter. Think house of the dead or area 51, but your moving and its in 3D with wind blowing at you. I thought it was pretty sweet. Way better than the boring dinosaur ride.

Why do rides like this always have PS2 graphics? I mean if the entire ride is really just a light gun game, the least you can do is have graphics that don't already look over a decade old on day *one.*

They replaced kingdom of the dinosaurs with an arcade shooter, this has got to be one of the most lazy and unimaginative ride replacements I've ever seen, they could've at least done what Disney did with that buzz lightyear blaster ride and had physical objects to shoot at and not a screen.

So besides going to knotts for Ghost Town and mystery lodge, the only other reason I enjoyed it was for the dinosaur ride (which was definitely in need of repair and to be fixed up). Instead of fixing it and making it work better, they did this, a crappy buzz light year nock off with the need for 3d glasses that is already a pain for anyone who has to wear glasses anyway. Well glad to know I no longer need to visit Knotts.
Geoff Roach I’m sorry but not every ride is supposed to be like the over commercialized spoiled brat land we called Disneyland, at least Knott’s can think of new rides that aren’t from a movie or a franchise, (except for camp snoopy, but that’s it) so if you wanna talk shit about a theme park that pre dates Disneyland for everything, try looking at the affordable admission and then we’ll see you take back what comes out of your mind
