One time I cleansed my room with mint and wished for some abundance because mint is all about that, hoping that "abundance" would mean "money". Nope. Turns out, I just had an incredible night with all of my friends and we ate a lot. Still good because I eat poorly but I guess this was more of a funny result than a backfire
I have a pet theory that money magic can be so unexpected because energy doesn't understand the concept of money, because money is such a man-made/artificial thing if that makes sense. So it's just like "I think this is right???" vs like health, happiness, abundance, luck, etc.
Not a backfire but more of a lesson in specificity when I was starting out - I did a spell to protect me from those who wish me harm, as I had an incident that was threatening. I proceeded to watch busses pass me by without stopping. People walked into me as if I wasn't even there. I missed appointments because 'didn't see you in the waiting room'. I missed deliveries to my house for a full week. Buzzers they swore they keyed in but nothing rang into the apartment. Emails from particular people got 'lost', or just plain didn't come through. So I was protected alright. Apparently from EVERYTHING. So I re-cast with far more specificity as to what 'harm' meant, and who to exclude. I have a whitelist of 'it's ok to let Doordash in with dinner' type of disclaimers lol
I always add that I want things to happen in ways that are positive/happy/safe/healthy/sustainable for me. Whatever is applicable. I treat everything like a monkey’s paw wish. I’ve seen too many horror movies to fuck around!
Not really a backfire, but a small funny anecdote: I love reading tarot, and I wanted to gift my sister one so she could try it too. Some time later, I stayed in her house for a few days, and I decided (with her permission) tp pick up her deck and try it. All I got was something along the lines of "Leave me alone, you're acting like we're friends and I don't know you" 😂😂😂
Major backfire… did a ritual cleansing of the entire house and decided to take a snack break before redoing our protections. Ten minutes later my sister woke up from a nap screaming from the sleep paralysis demon she hadn’t seen since I started protecting our house back in highschool (over 10 years ago). Needless to say, she was slightly pissed and watched to make sure I redid all our protections asap 😅
Hi i'm new to witchcraft a baby witch if you will. I am very much in the study fase so i haven't done any spells yet not really. But i do have a question now that i have read your comment. If you cleans anything you basicaly reset it to neutural/blank canvas/clean, so like you said you get rid of protection spells too? Another question, do spells like a protection spell have an expire date of some sorts? If i decide to protect my home do i have to redo that spell over and over again?
@@Skyra-1992 Hi! I don't consider myself an expert by any means, but this particular cleansing was sort of a "household reset" that I did for the autumnal equinox. Basically, I used some VERY strong cleansing methods that were like the equivalent of metaphysical bleach. Not all cleansing methods are like this -- most methods, like salt or sound cleansing, won't get rid of your protections unless you want them to. Per your second question, when you think about it most spells will likely wear down over time. Think of it like a battery - you can only charge a battery so much, and eventually it will deplete. How much you charge it and how much charge it can hold determines how long they last. For protections, for example, if there's nothing attacking them then they might deplete slower because they don't have to expend much energy just to exist. Still, you never really know how fast they're depleting. My primary method of protection is to place sigils in significant places and in the corners of each room, then to charge that particular sigil/symbol once a month. I think Frankie has some great sigil videos on their channel if that interests you! Again: that's primarily how I view it in my practice, but others might practice differently and disagree and that's totally valid as well!

But be warned, I think it's a pretty general rule that the longer and more powerful you want your protections to be, the more bombastic your ritual may have to proceed. There are always exceptions to the rule and it's not always like that but it is something I keep in mind and it's worked out for me so far. Personally, I cleanse and reset my wards every 6 months
I feel like money spells have to be approached like you're writing a rule book and negotiating a contract. They're the ones I'd like to try to do, but I'm also wary since I'd be paranoid I didn't think of all of the loopholes.
I have the same worry! I just try and do magic that more directly helps me deal with the circumstances, and hope it also ripples back to help my money come in easier.
Not really a backfire, but I bought a tarot deck during a really immature part of my life because they were calling to me. In every reading after that for about a year, they just kept telling me that I've been creating my own problems. Didn't stop until I started some self-improvement projects. The deck absolutely called me out!🤣

I did a money spell and my wife kept getting overtime and kept working long hours consistently. Her checks were great but she was so tired. I took it apart (it was a green bag spell) and thanked it for working and it instantly stopped.

For real. I lost a table and a good pan to a wax fire. Which is better than my house at least. I even had a fire extinguisher but I stupidly didn’t realize it was a single time use thing. I had to smother it with a pan, and even that took forever. It kept reigniting itself. (Also I thought you wrote burning your fridge and I was kind of impressed)

Not really a backfire, but a spell working too well: I once did a return to sender spell, to return all the pain the person inflicted on me, by working with Mars and Nemesis, and I did the mistake of amplifying it by "three times three". Well, what I didn't know was that that person was on a luxury trip to Nizza, which was cut short as they had a thrombosis and were rushed to the hospital. They could have died. I never felt so bad as I did then. Another good anecdote: I was trying love spells (not specific, just to attract a partner) for years, but they never worked. Some time ago I went through a Saturn transit and stopped swimming in the river of Denial. I admitted, that I'm AroAce and never truly wanted a partner. It was just pressure from society, from parents and friends. The whole time I was attempting to work against my true will.

When i was starting out we did a garage sale. I cast for us to and i quote ” get rid of as much as possible ” We only had one person come by and they stole a blanket… needless to say i’ve learned to be specific 😂
One time I did an unbinding spell and it backfired, so I undid it and for some reason the undoing got the result I wanted, still not completely sure what happened there
No i mean i did an unbinding spell, and then i had to rebind it because it backfired, it did not want to unbind but when i rebound it it didn't like, rebind all the way if that makes sense?
Also, fire safety: terra cotta (the plain, unpainted ones) with some sand. That's my go-to for anything questionable regards to candles - the sand will absorb the wax, and the terra cotta is really really heat resistant. Bonus, I do all of my burning of herbs or whatnot in the kitchen sink. Don't do burning candles in the sink though - water to a candle fire will just make it so so much worse since the wax acts like an oil.
One of my favorite stories I know was from a woman I knew who did a nonspecific love spell to get a husband. In her list of qualities she put rich because she was a broke 20 something. He ended up being middle class but his name turned out to be Richard and he went by Rich. She is very happy with kids so it wasn't a backfire per se but I just love the story. That one about the ex. Yeah, first name, last name, middle name if you know it, and their date of birth. That’s what I do. Whenever I do spell work to protect my girlfriend, she questions why I need such information, and I’m like, “they traumatized you, made you feel powerless, was your manager until just a couple days ago, and you expect me not to react?” Mind you, we’re long distance, so my magic is all I can give at the moment to protect her. I then realized that the lady that traumatized my girlfriend, while also drunkenly begging her to date her, had a boyfriend… So I did my first baneful working as a binding, used a bit of correspondences as well as sympathetic magic and the intention was to have her leave my girlfriend alone and that I hope her boyfriend realizes how disgusting she is. From her Facebook, she seems to still be with the guy, but she’s left my girlfriend alone as far as I’m aware. So , 50/50. It did its original purpose. Glad she’s still happily with her “soulmate” as she calls him. Yeah, well if he was, you wouldn’t be trying to steal my girl and drunkenly flashing your melons at her when she told you to stop. Mm, never mess with a witch’s close loved ones. I also did a protection spell for my girlfriend as well and spaced them out about week apart because I didn’t want my intentions to be muddy. Wanted to make sure that if anything backfired with the binding that it couldn’t be tied back to my girlfriend intention wise.
All the fire safety stories remind me of a batch of resin pieces I got from my sister in law. she was tipsy while doing the resin pouring and tried to use both rubbing alcohol and heat to pop the bubbles. Set the whole dinner table on fire. The pieces that fully cured are permanently infused with fire energy now. 😅
One time when I was like 14 and new to witchcraft I thought it would be a good idea to burn some herbs and a sigil together to create ashes. However I did this in a plastic solo cup. Within seconds the paper caught the cup on fire and luckily I was right by the bathtub so I just threw the whole spell into the tub and sprayed it with the hose 😂 safe to say that I learned an important lesson that day
Burns first aid: - Cool/lukewarm running water for 20 minutes or until it doesn’t hurt when not under water (yes you do actually need to do it, yes i know it’s boring) - The second best option if you don’t have running water is a bucket of water, and then a cold, wet cloth - Remove jewellery and tight clothing around the area, unless it’s stuck to the skin - Lightly lay cling film lengthways over the burn: DO NOT WRAP IT TIGHTLY, THE BURN WILL SWELL - Don’t stick anything to the skin or closely surrounding skin - Don’t bother trying to use burn gels/creams, just use the water and keep it clean - Don’t burst any blisters - If there’s any signs of infection or it’s not healing, go to a doctor ASAP - There’s a list of times you need to go to the hospital, you can google that or I’ll elaborate if anyone wants to know
My biggest backfire was the one that taught me the most. My prosperity spell ended up costing me $18,000 before it was all done. Always read directions carefully and make sure to use protection

I genuinely feel like loving money helps! I read Financial Sorcery by Jason Miller recently, and he talks about money as a spirit - it influenced my idea that loving money, respecting it, or treating it with offerings (like a spirit) yields great results versus seeing it as a product of capitalism or a necessary evil. I always had a view of money that wasn't necessarily positive (e.g. I need money to survive, but not seeing it with respect/appreciation), and reframing that in order to do money/abundance magic feels super cool.
Did a spell for communication on a summer fling of mine. We spoke for a month, met in person, and it was great. After that he got short and inconsistent with me. So i did the spell. We hung out once more and it was really awkward. I got frustrated and fed the spell some herbs for honesty because i felt like he was holding a lot back…i was ghosted a week later. 😂
Absolute backfire, tried to hex someone so they'd stop bad mouthing someone close to me, didn't do enough research/probably didn't cleanse properly. Maybe three days later while driving to a car dealership to look at a car for me, my mum totaled her car. Nobody was injured but damn it was seriously inconvenient. It also meant the next car we found would be hers (even if it was bought for me as she would need it more) until we could get us each one.
What timing with this video! Just this weekend, it happened to me. I don't really like to call it backfiring? I just royally messed up and should've known better. My sleep has been kinda shit lately, so I thought I'd make a sleeping charm bag. That night, I lay awake until 5! A.M. The absolute worst sleep I've had in years. Here's what I did wrong: To make the bag, I disassembled one I made for Hypnos. When making the new one, I asked Hypnos' blessing, kind of as an afterthought, but I made no offering whatsoever. I can only imagine that didn't sit well with him. The day after the worst sleep ever, I still lay awake for a few hours. So I returned the charm bag to him and made him an offering, apologising for my mistake. Last night was a little better, but still not optimal. Let's hope Hypnos believes I've learned my lesson for tonight 😬
did a banishing spell w wording about an abuser being "physically unharmed but [me and my bf] never seeing him on our shared college campus again" and "we'll move on from the hurt hes caused". haven't seen the abuser since, and neither has my bf. but my bf ended up dropping out and i will likely be soon as well :) honestly im grateful tho bc both him and i have been trying to transition more towards prioritizing working and health, as that college wasnt working well for us timing wise rn. it all worked out but its a little funny how literal but petty the universe made my outcome lmao. oh also this happened within mere weeks of the spell :')
I just want you to know, because of you, two years ago I started finding my roots for my magical practice. I finally last month found my roots in Appalachia. I now know my mom's family is part of the triracial group of people from Appalachia and we've practiced Appalachian folk magic/Appalachian conjure and Appalachian superstitions and folk lore for generations without EVEN Knowing half of it comes from our ancestral practice. I'm now studying Appalachian/southern conjure (it's not hoodoo, but because of the part hoodoo had in the mixture of cultures and religious beliefs and practices, it does derive some elements from hoodoo for anyone wondering). I stayed away from it until I could confirm it was in fact in my literal direct blood line. I've begun ancestors veneration and working with Yahweh (I'm also not Christian because the KJV Bible isn't even actually the Bible) and Hekate has already been with me for years. But I actually wanted to thank you. I feel so much more fulfilled than when I was just doing things with no connection or knowledge.
I haven't had any major backfires yet, but I'm more of an occasional witch (I practuce when I need to or when I feel the call but not every day or even every month). So far my only backfires have been where nothing happens lol lets hope it stays that way!
My family has always been heavily tied to sprits. Not just like ghosts but also naturally ones like Forrest spirits. I myself can see and communicate with them since a VERY early age. A year or two ago I decided to try my hand at working with forest spirits/fae. I was 14 and a dumbass. I kinda made a deal to help take care of the Forest in exchange for them helping with the garden. I didn’t do a good enough job and all of our plants died. Even the fruit trees that have been here for years before we even bought this house. I’m talking they DIED. If you looked at the trees wrong then branches would crumble off. Even the inside plants quickly withered away. Two years later I have finally done a good enough job taking care of the woods and land around us that the trees are back to being healthy and supplying surprisingly good fruits. The decorative plants and trees the last owners planted were BLACK that’s how dead they were and now they’re completely back to normal. I still haven’t told my parents that I’m the reason that it happened. They’re still confused and I will never explain it to them cause I don’t wanna get in trouble. I was very scared when it happened cause last time my family pissed off the spirits they flooded the house and broke pretty much all of our plumbing. So now we don’t kill spiders and I don’t play with the fae
I agree with this as well, I think it definitely depends on 1. how long it's been there 2. what is in it (some things cause stuff to mold like crazy!) And maybe even if the vessel was sanitized beforehand!

I had protective wards up on one of my best friends, but they were the kind of ward I had to keep up with. A while down the line, we wound up having a huge falling out. I kept up with the protection for a bit, but it was taking a lot of my energy I just couldn’t expend on her anymore so I took it down…. Later that night about 4 hours later she messaged me her and her boyfriend just had a car crash. We hadn’t spoken in months. Both of them were completely okay (fortunately) but I believe the car was wrecked.
Fun video. My backfire I remember all these years later was when I was a teenager and new to the craft I decided I wanted to have an experience with the Fay and decided to just wing it and send out basically an open invitation with zero specifics, no offerings and no idea what I was doing. I got my experience alright. This experiment was followed by me getting chased out of the woods while being pelted with acorns.
And these stories are why money spells and baneful magic kinda scare me. I’ve read “The Monkey’s Paw” enough times to know that you don’t ask for things like money without being very specific about how you get it. Not to mention the spiritual warfare you’d find yourself in without protecting yourself before casting a hex.
On the first one, sometimes magick works in such ways... Usually when I ask for someting that I want, I actually get what I need (a lesson). In case of the friend losing the job , it was probably the change she actually needed to get further in her personal life.
Two months back, I went to use a banishing oil I'd made and hadn't used in awhile, not realizing it still had a sneaky bit of herb still inside. Between that and a bad jar lid, the whole thing had gone rancid! I now am much more diligent about my oil storage - nothing smells worse than rotten cloves. It made me a bit more paranoid about mold in my herbs, too, so I now make sure to do a checkover every new moon and toss out anything that's gone off.
I once did a working with Elegua (the Orisha) for a road opening. After the working, I took the spell remains with me to bury at a crossroads because me and my family were going on a road trip, I thought we could stop at a junction or something. Things didn't work out and I had to literally throw the remains out the window while going 120 kms an hour. One hour later, we hit something on the road (which NONE of us saw what) and left both front and back bumpers on the road. Had to stop and wait for the tow truck under the summer heat for 2 hours, on a busy road. We had to be towed to a nearby city none of us knew and look for an open service station ON A SUNDAY. Thankfully we found one and made it home safe and sound. I never worked with an Orisha again.
Just all of the fire-disaster stories will always remind me of the fact that back in 2021 I accidentally set fire to my bedroom door and we had a minor house fire because of it (thankfully everyone was (physically) unharmed and the cat was okay, but yeah I'm not allowed candles anymore. It also took over a year to get my room fully repaired due to the landlords dragging their feet constantly and making us do all the organization of the tradies when that was part of their job. We replaced the overhead light which got melted in 2023 and then moved out a month later lol
Fire safety points (first aid is in a different comment): - Remember to test your fire alarms, most fire departments suggest once a week - Stop, drop, and roll if someone is on fire - Ensure you have planned fire exit routes in your house (it doesn’t need to major, just “oh I can climb our these windows safely, and go out these doors”) - Keep a bucket/container of water nearby if you’re using fire. Better to get everything soaking wet than burnt down - Close doors fully when you’re using fire (windows open) if possible, it’s amazing how much it can stop the spread (this is also recommended while you sleep) - Ensure pets/young children aren’t nearby or don’t have access to fire - Ensure children’s clothing are flame-resistant (especially pajamas) - Have hair tied back/out of the way where possible; I can’t tell you how many servers I saw nearly get their hair burnt off from the candles in church - You can get stickers/posters to go by your front door alerting emergency services to any pets you have - Most fire stations are happy to do tours for/answer questions from members of the public

Hexxed someone for three nights of nightmares to interfere with their sleep. Got into the *worst* argument with my husband, which then triggered nightmares and bad sleep for me within that timeframe.
My spells have all went pretty well. My best one was a pretty simple one. It was kind of a hex but more banishing. Basically there were these kids in my class who would bully me so I banished them by writing their names, folding away from me, and sticking it in the freezer. I haven’t been bullied since. Highly reccomend.
I did an angry spell for my mom to shut up. I kid you not, not even a week later, my mom SWALLOWED her bottom denture. It was stuck in her throat and it was visible or so I was told…
baking or bbq trays or sheets are great for fire- melting things (like candle spells) Because they can withstand high heats, will not get too hot & damage what they're set ontop of, & will contain any "over flow"/run off.
A fair few of these magical backfires seem to take the form of monkey's-paw wishes. In my case, recently, I was working on an art commission and the client was dragging their feet the whole way (changing concepts, wanting to try out a new idea they just had, realizing they didn't like what I spent a week perfecting). No formal spell was performed, but I did express a wish for the commission to just be done with already because I wanted the rest of my payment. A couple days later, I get a text saying "Thank you for your work, please stop working on this and send me the files." The commission was complete but it took another week of pestering before I was paid in full. Be careful what you wish for, even if you aren't actively practicing the craft. I've been out of practice for over a decade and these kinds of things happen often enough to be noticeable.
The experience @ 9:00 made me think of the closest I've come to making a baneful spell. It was actually using the black book from weaving fate. I had a pretty dangerous neighbor, I'm pretty sure he was involved with drugs. Neither me nor anyone I know was harmed, but I was concerned. So, I wrote in the black book that I would have a different neighbor and this one would move away. I wasn't specific, other than he couldn't harm anyone. because I really couldn't care less at this point, how he moved away. Ended up that he absolutely destroyed his apartment. Punched holes in the walls and everything. And so he got kicked out. No idea what happened to him after that. And it's probably something that would have happened anyway. But I needed him home before me or anyone else got hurt. So I definitely feel the spell sped up his exit and kept it contained to just his house.
Wasn't a spell per say but I forget the power of words on occasion and uh 😬 I had just had a full on breakdown at work, I was dreading going back in bc I couldn't stand that place any longer. There was a huge storm coming in late July and I casually and genuinely said out loud " Really hope a tree falls down at work so I don't have to go in" and minutes later 3 trees fall on my house and in the spot I was just sitting moments ago. Welp, didn't go back in! 😂😂
I do not f with love spells. I had this low key crush on someone, and i wanted them to like me, and i did a small, easy, simple not love but 'like' spell (mind you i was 18 at the time) and it backfired and I ended up falling hard for them, and couldnt get them out of my mind for 1 year straight, even though we had no contact through this year. We lost touch 2 weeks after i did the spell. I had do a couple of spells to unfck my self from all that fcking up, and finally never thinking about them again.

I had a recent backfire when cursing a few ex best friends. I more so wanted to banish one and cursed the other. But when reading back the incantations I used, I realized I said 'get your karma'. So I basically set myself up for getting the other end of the curse eventually, and gosh was it potent. I got the flu and was sick for a week. I think it's ironic too how youtube gives me this video just after my backfire happened so recently 😅

So this was before I officially started the witchcraft path, but there were two separate men on two separate occasions when I was going through my spiritual awakening in 2018 - they had both previously harmed / threatened me, but they kept popping up in my life and I kept thinking “I wish I didn’t have to think about them anymore”… within two weeks of the last time I thought that (after multiple times thinking that) they both died… not saying that I caused it, but now that I’ve been practicing witchcraft, definitely makes me be more conscientious of intention 😱

The candle explodes and I ran to the bathroom and threw it in the shower… little while goes by and I go to sleep… I had terrible nightmares about ghost children and when I woke up one was in my room… so I got up and cleansed the house, with my windows open and a crow flew in onto my altar and cawed three times and flew back out

I posted this story in a couple of places but I had some real fuckshit happen to me recently. I started a nine-day ritual to elevate my deceased aunt. We were noooooot on good terms when she died, and for good reason on my part, but I got the sense she was kinda stuck and I couldn't help but feel pity for this woman I once loved. So I extended the olive branch to help her out. The next morning, I pissed the bed (I'm almost 27) and learned the hard way that my vacuum was broken (it almost caught fire while I was running it) and had to purchase a whole new one. It was a brutal string of bad luck. But my dumb ass continued the ritual anyway. On what would've been day four, I pulled out the tarot cards to see how things were going with the ritual. I pulled the Magician reversed, the Tower, the Star reversed, and Temperence reversed. Like, I'm no tarot expert but that sign was more of a screaming neon billboard to me. So I took apart the altar and cleansed the shit outta my space. I dunno if whatever that was was my aunt holding a grudge in death or if I just had my first run in with a trickster spirit. Either way fuck the entirety of that. 😂

I’ve been at least a loosely practicing witch for about 3 years. Not necessarily much spell work though, just a few jars and candle spells here and there. I’m so happy for this video though, because I’m also learning a hell of a lot about what to and not to do as I continue my practice. Thank you! Edit: also, do you have tips for specificity without becoming too wordy? I guess I could try longer spells like the way people rhyme them or whatever. Typically I do short mantras sort of…but I feel like that’s hard to make really specific haha 😅 One more edit: I realized lately how specific I need to be with money magick too because I asked for abundance and got probably 5-6 bags of clothes for myself, my husband and our kids within the time span of life…2 weeks or less 😂 super blessed people love us enough to help us out! Last year on a full moon in July I did a bring in money spell. That Tuesday me and my coworker were so busy with tacos we had to shut down early because we ran out of everything at five. That day we made 1,998$ in taco sells. I was also working 6 days a week for three weeks. Pulling 6,8, 12, and 14 hour days. Got nearly 900$ but man I was tired
Reminds me of the time I did a working to protect my practice tools/ equipment and to hide them from family who were planning on visiting (from Texas). One of which is a pastor at a baptist church, and the working kind of succeeded? But not in the way I intended. My tools were not going to be found by them because they ended up canceling the trip a day before they were supposed to get here haha.
my backfire? i made a cleansing candle but didn't specify what it would be cleansing. while i intended to cleanse my room, it cleansed ME instead. started crying a whole lot, reflecting on my relationship w my parents, & sent a lengthy email to them detailing my boundaries. my dad kicked me out of the house.
Start with distilled water to be magiced/blessed for spells. Then you don't have nearly the chance for mold AND you have fewer contaminates to throw spells off.
The trick with money spells is to be specific as to the amount of money and how you want to acquire it. A few years ago I did a money spell for 500 dollars and I specifically asked that a brief case would be left on my front porch tomorrow morning. The very next morning I went to leave my house on the way to work and tripped over something, it was a brief case. I opened it to find 500 dollars inside.
I have always preferred to call someone's Karma back on them. The Karma will return anyway but you can accelerate the speed which it does. If they have a pattern of dishing out bad shit to everyone it can all come in not just what they dished on you. Because it is the bad seeds they sowed the chance of it backfiring on you is much less. I also like using mirrors against the wall to keep out general bad vibes that people put out on youl.
I made a spel candle and it didn't go wrong, but like many of these, I wasn't specific enough. I made a focus candle to light when I was working on homework and school stuff, but I should have put more intent on the school part because sometimes when I light it I hyperfocus on something else and trying to do homework feels like pulling teeth..... the lesson is always BE SPECIFIC
Decided to try a weather spell cuz it was after thanksgiving in wisconsin and still in like the 70s. The forecast said no snow in the next 7 days. Summoned snow, which showed up a little over 24 hours later, but wouldnt stop until I realized it was still going strong 48 hours later and had to stop it. Also once burnt some sigils on paper in a metal bowl on top of a thick blanket. The bowl ended up getting too hot and melted a hole in the blanket. Roommate was helping me pack when I moved in with him, picked up my money bowl and shoved it upside down into a box, spilling it everywhere. I lost my job a few months later and have been struggling to find another full time job since.

One time I cleansed my room with mint and wished for some abundance because mint is all about that, hoping that "abundance" would mean "money". Nope. Turns out, I just had an incredible night with all of my friends and we ate a lot. Still good because I eat poorly but I guess this was more of a funny result than a backfire

I have a pet theory that money magic can be so unexpected because energy doesn't understand the concept of money, because money is such a man-made/artificial thing if that makes sense. So it's just like "I think this is right???" vs like health, happiness, abundance, luck, etc.

Not a backfire but more of a lesson in specificity when I was starting out -
I did a spell to protect me from those who wish me harm, as I had an incident that was threatening.
I proceeded to watch busses pass me by without stopping.
People walked into me as if I wasn't even there.
I missed appointments because 'didn't see you in the waiting room'.
I missed deliveries to my house for a full week. Buzzers they swore they keyed in but nothing rang into the apartment.
Emails from particular people got 'lost', or just plain didn't come through.
So I was protected alright. Apparently from EVERYTHING.
So I re-cast with far more specificity as to what 'harm' meant, and who to exclude.
I have a whitelist of 'it's ok to let Doordash in with dinner' type of disclaimers lol

Not really a backfire, but a small funny anecdote: I love reading tarot, and I wanted to gift my sister one so she could try it too. Some time later, I stayed in her house for a few days, and I decided (with her permission) tp pick up her deck and try it. All I got was something along the lines of "Leave me alone, you're acting like we're friends and I don't know you" 😂😂😂
Major backfire… did a ritual cleansing of the entire house and decided to take a snack break before redoing our protections. Ten minutes later my sister woke up from a nap screaming from the sleep paralysis demon she hadn’t seen since I started protecting our house back in highschool (over 10 years ago).
Needless to say, she was slightly pissed and watched to make sure I redid all our protections asap 😅

If you cleans anything you basicaly reset it to neutural/blank canvas/clean, so like you said you get rid of protection spells too?
Another question, do spells like a protection spell have an expire date of some sorts? If i decide to protect my home do i have to redo that spell over and over again?
@@Skyra-1992 Hi! I don't consider myself an expert by any means, but this particular cleansing was sort of a "household reset" that I did for the autumnal equinox. Basically, I used some VERY strong cleansing methods that were like the equivalent of metaphysical bleach. Not all cleansing methods are like this -- most methods, like salt or sound cleansing, won't get rid of your protections unless you want them to.
Per your second question, when you think about it most spells will likely wear down over time. Think of it like a battery - you can only charge a battery so much, and eventually it will deplete. How much you charge it and how much charge it can hold determines how long they last. For protections, for example, if there's nothing attacking them then they might deplete slower because they don't have to expend much energy just to exist. Still, you never really know how fast they're depleting. My primary method of protection is to place sigils in significant places and in the corners of each room, then to charge that particular sigil/symbol once a month. I think Frankie has some great sigil videos on their channel if that interests you!
Again: that's primarily how I view it in my practice, but others might practice differently and disagree and that's totally valid as well!

But be warned, I think it's a pretty general rule that the longer and more powerful you want your protections to be, the more bombastic your ritual may have to proceed. There are always exceptions to the rule and it's not always like that but it is something I keep in mind and it's worked out for me so far. Personally, I cleanse and reset my wards every 6 months
Money magic is what I call a "Monkey's Paw." You DO have to be very specific and careful with your wording! Love this!

I feel like money spells have to be approached like you're writing a rule book and negotiating a contract. They're the ones I'd like to try to do, but I'm also wary since I'd be paranoid I didn't think of all of the loopholes.
Absolutely. I always say from happy, sustainable sources. I feel like that covers me for things like death, accidents, etc.
I always say "i attract money in a safe, ethical way that harms no one, including myself."
I have the same worry! I just try and do magic that more directly helps me deal with the circumstances, and hope it also ripples back to help my money come in easier.
Not really a backfire, but I bought a tarot deck during a really immature part of my life because they were calling to me. In every reading after that for about a year, they just kept telling me that I've been creating my own problems. Didn't stop until I started some self-improvement projects. The deck absolutely called me out!🤣

I did a money spell and my wife kept getting overtime and kept working long hours consistently. Her checks were great but she was so tired. I took it apart (it was a green bag spell) and thanked it for working and it instantly stopped.
My f-ups included:

For real. I lost a table and a good pan to a wax fire. Which is better than my house at least. I even had a fire extinguisher but I stupidly didn’t realize it was a single time use thing. I had to smother it with a pan, and even that took forever. It kept reigniting itself.

Not really a backfire, but a spell working too well: I once did a return to sender spell, to return all the pain the person inflicted on me, by working with Mars and Nemesis, and I did the mistake of amplifying it by "three times three". Well, what I didn't know was that that person was on a luxury trip to Nizza, which was cut short as they had a thrombosis and were rushed to the hospital. They could have died. I never felt so bad as I did then.
Another good anecdote: I was trying love spells (not specific, just to attract a partner) for years, but they never worked. Some time ago I went through a Saturn transit and stopped swimming in the river of Denial. I admitted, that I'm AroAce and never truly wanted a partner. It was just pressure from society, from parents and friends. The whole time I was attempting to work against my true will.
Haven't had a back fire✨️ yet✨️, I learn from other people's mistakes

Also, fire safety: terra cotta (the plain, unpainted ones) with some sand. That's my go-to for anything questionable regards to candles - the sand will absorb the wax, and the terra cotta is really really heat resistant. Bonus, I do all of my burning of herbs or whatnot in the kitchen sink. Don't do burning candles in the sink though - water to a candle fire will just make it so so much worse since the wax acts like an oil.
my water have NEVER gone moldy...I keep them in glass jars and they last literal YEARS
One of my favorite stories I know was from a woman I knew who did a nonspecific love spell to get a husband. In her list of qualities she put rich because she was a broke 20 something. He ended up being middle class but his name turned out to be Richard and he went by Rich. She is very happy with kids so it wasn't a backfire per se but I just love the story. PS I love the To Wong Foo clip.
That one about the ex. Yeah, first name, last name, middle name if you know it, and their date of birth. That’s what I do. Whenever I do spell work to protect my girlfriend, she questions why I need such information, and I’m like, “they traumatized you, made you feel powerless, was your manager until just a couple days ago, and you expect me not to react?” Mind you, we’re long distance, so my magic is all I can give at the moment to protect her. I then realized that the lady that traumatized my girlfriend, while also drunkenly begging her to date her, had a boyfriend… So I did my first baneful working as a binding, used a bit of correspondences as well as sympathetic magic and the intention was to have her leave my girlfriend alone and that I hope her boyfriend realizes how disgusting she is.
From her Facebook, she seems to still be with the guy, but she’s left my girlfriend alone as far as I’m aware. So , 50/50. It did its original purpose. Glad she’s still happily with her “soulmate” as she calls him. Yeah, well if he was, you wouldn’t be trying to steal my girl and drunkenly flashing your melons at her when she told you to stop. Mm, never mess with a witch’s close loved ones.
I also did a protection spell for my girlfriend as well and spaced them out about week apart because I didn’t want my intentions to be muddy. Wanted to make sure that if anything backfired with the binding that it couldn’t be tied back to my girlfriend intention wise.
All the fire safety stories remind me of a batch of resin pieces I got from my sister in law. she was tipsy while doing the resin pouring and tried to use both rubbing alcohol and heat to pop the bubbles. Set the whole dinner table on fire. The pieces that fully cured are permanently infused with fire energy now. 😅

One time when I was like 14 and new to witchcraft I thought it would be a good idea to burn some herbs and a sigil together to create ashes. However I did this in a plastic solo cup. Within seconds the paper caught the cup on fire and luckily I was right by the bathtub so I just threw the whole spell into the tub and sprayed it with the hose 😂 safe to say that I learned an important lesson that day
Burns first aid:
- Cool/lukewarm running water for 20 minutes or until it doesn’t hurt when not under water (yes you do actually need to do it, yes i know it’s boring)
- The second best option if you don’t have running water is a bucket of water, and then a cold, wet cloth
- Remove jewellery and tight clothing around the area, unless it’s stuck to the skin
- Lightly lay cling film lengthways over the burn: DO NOT WRAP IT TIGHTLY, THE BURN WILL SWELL
- Don’t stick anything to the skin or closely surrounding skin
- Don’t bother trying to use burn gels/creams, just use the water and keep it clean
- Don’t burst any blisters
- If there’s any signs of infection or it’s not healing, go to a doctor ASAP
- There’s a list of times you need to go to the hospital, you can google that or I’ll elaborate if anyone wants to know
My biggest backfire was the one that taught me the most. My prosperity spell ended up costing me $18,000 before it was all done. Always read directions carefully and make sure to use protection
“Money magick is the most difficult to work with” that’s actually crazy to me since it’s the easiest type of magick for me, but then again I love money and have always had luck with it
I genuinely feel like loving money helps! I read Financial Sorcery by Jason Miller recently, and he talks about money as a spirit - it influenced my idea that loving money, respecting it, or treating it with offerings (like a spirit) yields great results versus seeing it as a product of capitalism or a necessary evil. I always had a view of money that wasn't necessarily positive (e.g. I need money to survive, but not seeing it with respect/appreciation), and reframing that in order to do money/abundance magic feels super cool.
Did a spell for communication on a summer fling of mine. We spoke for a month, met in person, and it was great. After that he got short and inconsistent with me. So i did the spell. We hung out once more and it was really awkward. I got frustrated and fed the spell some herbs for honesty because i felt like he was holding a lot back…i was ghosted a week later. 😂

Absolute backfire, tried to hex someone so they'd stop bad mouthing someone close to me, didn't do enough research/probably didn't cleanse properly. Maybe three days later while driving to a car dealership to look at a car for me, my mum totaled her car. Nobody was injured but damn it was seriously inconvenient. It also meant the next car we found would be hers (even if it was bought for me as she would need it more) until we could get us each one.

My sleep has been kinda shit lately, so I thought I'd make a sleeping charm bag. That night, I lay awake until 5! A.M. The absolute worst sleep I've had in years. Here's what I did wrong:
To make the bag, I disassembled one I made for Hypnos. When making the new one, I asked Hypnos' blessing, kind of as an afterthought, but I made no offering whatsoever. I can only imagine that didn't sit well with him. The day after the worst sleep ever, I still lay awake for a few hours. So I returned the charm bag to him and made him an offering, apologising for my mistake. Last night was a little better, but still not optimal. Let's hope Hypnos believes I've learned my lesson for tonight 😬
did a banishing spell w wording about an abuser being "physically unharmed but [me and my bf] never seeing him on our shared college campus again" and "we'll move on from the hurt hes caused". haven't seen the abuser since, and neither has my bf. but my bf ended up dropping out and i will likely be soon as well :) honestly im grateful tho bc both him and i have been trying to transition more towards prioritizing working and health, as that college wasnt working well for us timing wise rn. it all worked out but its a little funny how literal but petty the universe made my outcome lmao. oh also this happened within mere weeks of the spell :')

I just want you to know, because of you, two years ago I started finding my roots for my magical practice. I finally last month found my roots in Appalachia. I now know my mom's family is part of the triracial group of people from Appalachia and we've practiced Appalachian folk magic/Appalachian conjure and Appalachian superstitions and folk lore for generations without EVEN Knowing half of it comes from our ancestral practice. I'm now studying Appalachian/southern conjure (it's not hoodoo, but because of the part hoodoo had in the mixture of cultures and religious beliefs and practices, it does derive some elements from hoodoo for anyone wondering). I stayed away from it until I could confirm it was in fact in my literal direct blood line. I've begun ancestors veneration and working with Yahweh (I'm also not Christian because the KJV Bible isn't even actually the Bible) and Hekate has already been with me for years. But I actually wanted to thank you. I feel so much more fulfilled than when I was just doing things with no connection or knowledge.

I haven't had any major backfires yet, but I'm more of an occasional witch (I practuce when I need to or when I feel the call but not every day or even every month). So far my only backfires have been where nothing happens lol lets hope it stays that way!
My family has always been heavily tied to sprits. Not just like ghosts but also naturally ones like Forrest spirits. I myself can see and communicate with them since a VERY early age. A year or two ago I decided to try my hand at working with forest spirits/fae. I was 14 and a dumbass. I kinda made a deal to help take care of the Forest in exchange for them helping with the garden. I didn’t do a good enough job and all of our plants died. Even the fruit trees that have been here for years before we even bought this house. I’m talking they DIED. If you looked at the trees wrong then branches would crumble off. Even the inside plants quickly withered away. Two years later I have finally done a good enough job taking care of the woods and land around us that the trees are back to being healthy and supplying surprisingly good fruits. The decorative plants and trees the last owners planted were BLACK that’s how dead they were and now they’re completely back to normal. I still haven’t told my parents that I’m the reason that it happened. They’re still confused and I will never explain it to them cause I don’t wanna get in trouble. I was very scared when it happened cause last time my family pissed off the spirits they flooded the house and broke pretty much all of our plumbing. So now we don’t kill spiders and I don’t play with the fae
Also, I don't think mold always means your spell didn't work. I've held onto a spell jar that definitely did work a little too long and it molded

2. what is in it (some things cause stuff to mold like crazy!)

I had protective wards up on one of my best friends, but they were the kind of ward I had to keep up with. A while down the line, we wound up having a huge falling out. I kept up with the protection for a bit, but it was taking a lot of my energy I just couldn’t expend on her anymore so I took it down…. Later that night about 4 hours later she messaged me her and her boyfriend just had a car crash. We hadn’t spoken in months.
Both of them were completely okay (fortunately) but I believe the car was wrecked.

Fun video. My backfire I remember all these years later was when I was a teenager and new to the craft I decided I wanted to have an experience with the Fay and decided to just wing it and send out basically an open invitation with zero specifics, no offerings and no idea what I was doing.
I got my experience alright. This experiment was followed by me getting chased out of the woods while being pelted with acorns.

And these stories are why money spells and baneful magic kinda scare me. I’ve read “The Monkey’s Paw” enough times to know that you don’t ask for things like money without being very specific about how you get it. Not to mention the spiritual warfare you’d find yourself in without protecting yourself before casting a hex.
On the first one, sometimes magick works in such ways...
Usually when I ask for someting that I want, I actually get what I need (a lesson). In case of the friend losing the job , it was probably the change she actually needed to get further in her personal life.
Two months back, I went to use a banishing oil I'd made and hadn't used in awhile, not realizing it still had a sneaky bit of herb still inside. Between that and a bad jar lid, the whole thing had gone rancid! I now am much more diligent about my oil storage - nothing smells worse than rotten cloves. It made me a bit more paranoid about mold in my herbs, too, so I now make sure to do a checkover every new moon and toss out anything that's gone off.
I once did a working with Elegua (the Orisha) for a road opening.
After the working, I took the spell remains with me to bury at a crossroads because me and my family were going on a road trip, I thought we could stop at a junction or something. Things didn't work out and I had to literally throw the remains out the window while going 120 kms an hour. One hour later, we hit something on the road (which NONE of us saw what) and left both front and back bumpers on the road. Had to stop and wait for the tow truck under the summer heat for 2 hours, on a busy road. We had to be towed to a nearby city none of us knew and look for an open service station ON A SUNDAY. Thankfully we found one and made it home safe and sound. I never worked with an Orisha again.
Just all of the fire-disaster stories will always remind me of the fact that back in 2021 I accidentally set fire to my bedroom door and we had a minor house fire because of it (thankfully everyone was (physically) unharmed and the cat was okay, but yeah I'm not allowed candles anymore. It also took over a year to get my room fully repaired due to the landlords dragging their feet constantly and making us do all the organization of the tradies when that was part of their job. We replaced the overhead light which got melted in 2023 and then moved out a month later lol
Fire safety points (first aid is in a different comment):
- Remember to test your fire alarms, most fire departments suggest once a week
- Stop, drop, and roll if someone is on fire
- Ensure you have planned fire exit routes in your house (it doesn’t need to major, just “oh I can climb our these windows safely, and go out these doors”)
- Keep a bucket/container of water nearby if you’re using fire. Better to get everything soaking wet than burnt down
- Close doors fully when you’re using fire (windows open) if possible, it’s amazing how much it can stop the spread (this is also recommended while you sleep)
- Ensure pets/young children aren’t nearby or don’t have access to fire
- Ensure children’s clothing are flame-resistant (especially pajamas)
- Have hair tied back/out of the way where possible; I can’t tell you how many servers I saw nearly get their hair burnt off from the candles in church
- You can get stickers/posters to go by your front door alerting emergency services to any pets you have
- Most fire stations are happy to do tours for/answer questions from members of the public

Hexxed someone for three nights of nightmares to interfere with their sleep. Got into the *worst* argument with my husband, which then triggered nightmares and bad sleep for me within that timeframe.
My spells have all went pretty well. My best one was a pretty simple one. It was kind of a hex but more banishing. Basically there were these kids in my class who would bully me so I banished them by writing their names, folding away from me, and sticking it in the freezer. I haven’t been bullied since. Highly reccomend.
I did an angry spell for my mom to shut up. I kid you not, not even a week later, my mom SWALLOWED her bottom denture. It was stuck in her throat and it was visible or so I was told…
not that one time i accidentally used the wrong hairs 😬 ended up casting something on myself... least it wasnt something bad

I live videos like this. I once did a protection ward and then had horrible anxiety and paranoia until I undid the ward :/ bad couple of weeks
baking or bbq trays or sheets are great for fire- melting things (like candle spells) Because they can withstand high heats, will not get too hot & damage what they're set ontop of, & will contain any "over flow"/run off.
A fair few of these magical backfires seem to take the form of monkey's-paw wishes.
In my case, recently, I was working on an art commission and the client was dragging their feet the whole way (changing concepts, wanting to try out a new idea they just had, realizing they didn't like what I spent a week perfecting). No formal spell was performed, but I did express a wish for the commission to just be done with already because I wanted the rest of my payment. A couple days later, I get a text saying "Thank you for your work, please stop working on this and send me the files." The commission was complete but it took another week of pestering before I was paid in full. Be careful what you wish for, even if you aren't actively practicing the craft. I've been out of practice for over a decade and these kinds of things happen often enough to be noticeable.

The experience @ 9:00 made me think of the closest I've come to making a baneful spell. It was actually using the black book from weaving fate.
I had a pretty dangerous neighbor, I'm pretty sure he was involved with drugs. Neither me nor anyone I know was harmed, but I was concerned.
So, I wrote in the black book that I would have a different neighbor and this one would move away. I wasn't specific, other than he couldn't harm anyone. because I really couldn't care less at this point, how he moved away.
Ended up that he absolutely destroyed his apartment. Punched holes in the walls and everything. And so he got kicked out.
No idea what happened to him after that. And it's probably something that would have happened anyway. But I needed him home before me or anyone else got hurt. So I definitely feel the spell sped up his exit and kept it contained to just his house.
Wasn't a spell per say but I forget the power of words on occasion and uh 😬 I had just had a full on breakdown at work, I was dreading going back in bc I couldn't stand that place any longer. There was a huge storm coming in late July and I casually and genuinely said out loud " Really hope a tree falls down at work so I don't have to go in" and minutes later 3 trees fall on my house and in the spot I was just sitting moments ago. Welp, didn't go back in! 😂😂

I do not f with love spells. I had this low key crush on someone, and i wanted them to like me, and i did a small, easy, simple not love but 'like' spell (mind you i was 18 at the time) and it backfired and I ended up falling hard for them, and couldnt get them out of my mind for 1 year straight, even though we had no contact through this year. We lost touch 2 weeks after i did the spell. I had do a couple of spells to unfck my self from all that fcking up, and finally never thinking about them again.

I had a recent backfire when cursing a few ex best friends. I more so wanted to banish one and cursed the other. But when reading back the incantations I used, I realized I said 'get your karma'. So I basically set myself up for getting the other end of the curse eventually, and gosh was it potent. I got the flu and was sick for a week. I think it's ironic too how youtube gives me this video just after my backfire happened so recently 😅

So this was before I officially started the witchcraft path, but there were two separate men on two separate occasions when I was going through my spiritual awakening in 2018 - they had both previously harmed / threatened me, but they kept popping up in my life and I kept thinking “I wish I didn’t have to think about them anymore”… within two weeks of the last time I thought that (after multiple times thinking that) they both died… not saying that I caused it, but now that I’ve been practicing witchcraft, definitely makes me be more conscientious of intention 😱

@@tiredgoblinboi ok so basically I just started practicing in 2019, I had a friend who works with her and I was like huh so I got into it too… got her stuff for an altar and made it… lit candles chanted and summoned her so to speak. The candle explodes and I ran to the bathroom and threw it in the shower… little while goes by and I go to sleep… I had terrible nightmares about ghost children and when I woke up one was in my room… so I got up and cleansed the house, with my windows open and a crow flew in onto my altar and cawed three times and flew back out

I posted this story in a couple of places but I had some real fuckshit happen to me recently.
I started a nine-day ritual to elevate my deceased aunt. We were noooooot on good terms when she died, and for good reason on my part, but I got the sense she was kinda stuck and I couldn't help but feel pity for this woman I once loved. So I extended the olive branch to help her out.
The next morning, I pissed the bed (I'm almost 27) and learned the hard way that my vacuum was broken (it almost caught fire while I was running it) and had to purchase a whole new one. It was a brutal string of bad luck. But my dumb ass continued the ritual anyway.
On what would've been day four, I pulled out the tarot cards to see how things were going with the ritual. I pulled the Magician reversed, the Tower, the Star reversed, and Temperence reversed. Like, I'm no tarot expert but that sign was more of a screaming neon billboard to me. So I took apart the altar and cleansed the shit outta my space. I dunno if whatever that was was my aunt holding a grudge in death or if I just had my first run in with a trickster spirit. Either way fuck the entirety of that. 😂

I’ve been at least a loosely practicing witch for about 3 years. Not necessarily much spell work though, just a few jars and candle spells here and there. I’m so happy for this video though, because I’m also learning a hell of a lot about what to and not to do as I continue my practice. Thank you!
Edit: also, do you have tips for specificity without becoming too wordy? I guess I could try longer spells like the way people rhyme them or whatever. Typically I do short mantras sort of…but I feel like that’s hard to make really specific haha 😅
One more edit: I realized lately how specific I need to be with money magick too because I asked for abundance and got probably 5-6 bags of clothes for myself, my husband and our kids within the time span of life…2 weeks or less 😂 super blessed people love us enough to help us out! It’s so many clothes to go through now though haha 🙃
Last year on a full moon in July I did a bring in money spell. That Tuesday me and my coworker were so busy with tacos we had to shut down early because we ran out of everything at five. That day we made 1,998$ in taco sells. I was also working 6 days a week for three weeks. Pulling 6,8, 12, and 14 hour days. Got nearly 900$ but man I was tired
Reminds me of the time I did a working to protect my practice tools/ equipment and to hide them from family who were planning on visiting (from Texas). One of which is a pastor at a baptist church, and the working kind of succeeded? But not in the way I intended. My tools were not going to be found by them because they ended up canceling the trip a day before they were supposed to get here haha.
my backfire? i made a cleansing candle but didn't specify what it would be cleansing. while i intended to cleanse my room, it cleansed ME instead. started crying a whole lot, reflecting on my relationship w my parents, & sent a lengthy email to them detailing my boundaries.

Start with distilled water to be magiced/blessed for spells. Then you don't have nearly the chance for mold AND you have fewer contaminates to throw spells off.
Did a money spell. Went to the grocery store a few days later, and found someones wallet on the ground. Of course I turned it in. lmao
The trick with money spells is to be specific as to the amount of money and how you want to acquire it. A few years ago I did a money spell for 500 dollars and I specifically asked that a brief case would be left on my front porch tomorrow morning. The very next morning I went to leave my house on the way to work and tripped over something, it was a brief case. I opened it to find 500 dollars inside.
I have always preferred to call someone's Karma back on them. The Karma will return anyway but you can accelerate the speed which it does. If they have a pattern of dishing out bad shit to everyone it can all come in not just what they dished on you. Because it is the bad seeds they sowed the chance of it backfiring on you is much less. I also like using mirrors against the wall to keep out general bad vibes that people put out on youl.
I made a spel candle and it didn't go wrong, but like many of these, I wasn't specific enough. I made a focus candle to light when I was working on homework and school stuff, but I should have put more intent on the school part because sometimes when I light it I hyperfocus on something else and trying to do homework feels like pulling teeth..... the lesson is always BE SPECIFIC
Decided to try a weather spell cuz it was after thanksgiving in wisconsin and still in like the 70s. The forecast said no snow in the next 7 days. Summoned snow, which showed up a little over 24 hours later, but wouldnt stop until I realized it was still going strong 48 hours later and had to stop it. Also once burnt some sigils on paper in a metal bowl on top of a thick blanket. The bowl ended up getting too hot and melted a hole in the blanket. Roommate was helping me pack when I moved in with him, picked up my money bowl and shoved it upside down into a box, spilling it everywhere. I lost my job a few months later and have been struggling to find another full time job since.
