for those saying its just a permeant funfair, it is really not. Has some amazing rides which you no longer see in the UK.

It only takes one experience like that to put you off a place. Such a shame as Henry is putting his heart and soul into the place and is such a lovely man.

By the sounds of it Henry wasn’t that friendly either when Shawn spoke to him
Henry has done an amazing job in just a few years with covid in between transforming it from a closed down rotting shell to something worth visiting again. Remember, they don't have the capital or the space of the big theme parks so are not trying to compete.
The place was fantastic in the 1980's with the log flume, Goldmine, Jungle ride, Galaxie coaster, fun house ,scream machine, Enterprise etc. But when Butlins and then Majestic holiday park closed it ripped the heart out of Barry Island by taking 5000 holiday makers a week out of the area and the park became run down.
Whilst I fully agree that there is never an excuse for rudeness and this must be addressed, I think you should see the park for what it is and what Henry has done and continues to do. Without him it would be a residential area now.
For the record, I've visited 3 times this year from Devon, the last time was August 5th. The sun was shining, about 95 per cent of the rides were running, no staff issues and my kids had a fantastic time. My son went on Aerospace twice and loved it. So a very different experience and I'm sorry yours was not a good one. Dudgies family vlog on UA-cam is run by friends of mine and lovely people that live on the Island. You can see the improvements to the park over the years and discussions with Henry showing his passion for the place. We have lost so many seaside parks , let's hope this continues to improve.

@@ShaneRalph77 good point - although bad manners (in this case from ride operator) can harm the reputation, take sales away from the park and undo the good hard work by Henry and his team.
I'm guessing Shawn probably already knows all that.

That guy clearly realised he'd messed up. You could see him panicking just before he approached you. Well done for standing your ground, it was funny seeing you act in more stern way than we usually see you, but sometimes you just have to. You have spent years promoting the industry, and you are always very fair with your praise and criticism's. I guess they will regret being rude and unpleasant, when hundreds of thousands of potential customers watch this vlog. Good luck with the future guys both business wise and with each other. Cheers

The park is great trust me if you had a issue should of asked for Henry he would of sorted things out it's not right to put park down maybe stick to your 3 hours queueing at Alton towers 😂there is a ticket office if you looked

Such a shame! I’m sure Henry Danter would not be happy with the way the hell raiser operate was with you and the lack off communication, he has so much passion for that park. I would definitely recommend writing to him but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone sees this and tells him anyway! Hope you have a better visit next time
We actually spoke with Henry later in the day during our visit. Not the best impression after that unfortunately!

Hi guys,I was absolutely disgusted to hear you saying about that ride operator behind you being rude to you when you are there to help and promote these kind of places and looking at how empty it is it needs some promotion but I an glad you stood your ground and didn't ride that ride,shame you didn't get on the new rude,I used to work at crealy adventure park in Exeter and after health and safety there next mist important thing was guest satisfaction and making sure everyone had a fantastic time and if a ride was not working then you apologise for that even thou it was my fault itcwas good service to apologise,thankyou guys for what you do and bringing the good and bad on every place you go and always honest,cheers

Shame the trip ended the way it did, especially as it was the part you were looking forward to the most. From looking at the comments it seems like Barry Island isn't all that great but what I saw from other vlogs it seemed alright. I suppose experiences just vary. Good on ya for handling mr grumpy professionally and grown up, he could take a leaf out of your book.

Hey Shawn.... I run a youtube channel (breaking trails) I recently filmed a vlog here at Barry island pleasure park too. I was fortunate enough to ride Aerospace but with the matterhorn I had the same experience too. I rode it and it didn't really impress me, so being honest to my subscribers I said what I thought.........followed by messages asking me to remove the vlog and/or parts where I rode the matterhorn and my honest opinions. Such a shame.

Disliked this video as you aren't being fair. Try going to the ticket booth and it's not always about you.
I agree with the Dudgies UA-cam channel. No need to dis this park as you can't get your own way. You have to accept that rides have issues. Try speaking to the true owner who has put a lot of time and effort into this park. He's the one who saved it.

What a numpty that ride operator was!! Just shot himself in the foot big time.....Quasar bought back some memories of childhood, not many of those around anymore. So gutted that you couldn't get on, nothing worse than not getting on a ride you specifically travelled for. I won't be travelling to Barry Island anytime soon.
Unfortunately so, it left a sour taste in our mouth unfortunately. However Aerospace looks great and I look forward to riding it at some point!

Haven't been to Barry since I was at St Athan in '93. Bloody hell has it changed for the better. Other than the atitude of certain people!

Those 1st generation Orbiters are better than the modern ones. Brings back 80’s memories of my local annual fairground 😂

14:28 Spotted that exact one at a local funfair near me. I live in a small market town called Garstang (north of Preston, south of Lancaster and east of Blackpool). Every year (typically May) there is a small funfair here called Cubbins Fair that lasts 4 or 5 days. Last May I spotted the exact one from Adventure Island at the local fair, I know this because it still had the signage that said "Adventure Island" on and everything. It's an okay little fair, definitely one to keep your eyes peeled for next May.
Hi Shawn, firstly I love your videos and fully support your opinions with parks. Its unfortunate to see you had a poor experience at Barry island but please let me reassure you that Barry is one of the best places I have ever visited. Me and a friend visited during a time where the weather was terrible and the park was dead. Most of the operators of the park had left for the day due to this however the owner of the park (im unable to remember his name) did his upmost to ensure we enjoyed our day to the best of his ability. I struggle to understand the stance you take in regards to there not being help points as there was when I was there. Barry island still remains one of my favourite parks due to the friendliness of the staff. Please give Barry Island another go! they have worked super hard to bring it back up to nearly the standard that it used to be. Hope you read this and take what I have said in and hopefully reconsidered your opinions in future visits :)

I recognise that guy from our trip about 6 months ago, there were two that were really rude to me for no reason, the one who shouted at me to get down the steps on the gravitron even though he said to come up and the other guy who said pretty much the same on the coaster. Shocked that they still haven't been spoken to about how they speak to paying customers. If I already wouldn't be going back due to the lack of decent rides, the lack of basic manners from some of the staff members would have put me off returning.

Hopefully someone in management might see your video and have a word with the staff, of course nobody wants anyone to lose their jobs especially these days but like you said. Changes need to be made. Shame because its a beautiful area and will the right TLC and a little investment. It could be a great little park!
rumours have it he didn’t want to be filmed. So fair enough to be fair. Seen lots of reviews about this childish behaviour of a blog watched coaster crazy blog much better review about the park and there is a reception at Barry island pleasure park in the centre of the park next to the ghost train to complain too if you have anything to complain about. :)
Think their customer service skills are very lacking indeed!! Don’t see how they could ever be rude to you n Charlotte because both of you seem like nice, friendly approachable people. I remember a ride operator in Rhyl when I was a kid being rude to me when I politely asked a question. He looked grumpy like your guy too. Glad u enjoyed the other parks in wales :)

I find it hilarious how a member of staff sees someone clogging and decides to be rude not thinking about how if you’re clogging people are going to see it and then he thinks he can clear it up by coming over and starting it up again, don’t really know what he expected.
wow what an idiot that ride operator was! Perfectly handled when he came over and asked for a "chat" though. No point dealing with these people when they are gonna be rude!

This used to be an epic amusement park with lots of input from Mr John Wardley. It had a great looking, themed log flume and some great dark rides. I used to love the Century 2000 ride. Now it looks like any other travelling fair shoved on a car park, such a shame. There’s no excuse for bad customer service and rudeness when someone like yourself is promoting and supporting their industry also!

You do realize that the area isn't a theme park area like Oakwood park is right?? So it can't house certain rides 🙄 wish people understood this concept to be honest.

It was however an amazing seaside amusement park with some highly themed areas and rides, where as now it looks like any other travelling fair in car park. I know this as I’ve been there. Maybe you should do some research before you comment nonsense. I wish people would understand THAT concept! 🙄
Oh and by the way, I wouldn’t be holding Oakwood up as your point of reference for a supposed ‘theme park’, that’s definitely not the best example you could have gone for! 🤦🏻♂️
I thought you might have been there yesterday afternoon, I waited by the ride entrance in case Shawn wanted a ride buddy! Airborne was operating all of yesterday doing many quite long cycles (leaving people up as they load), big fan of the channel wanted a chance to meet the heroes! There’s always next time :)

I feel Shawn has been very harsh. There are many reasons why I believe this: first go and watch any other vlogger/youtuber on Barry Island, and they all seem to be full of praise. Andy (coaster crazy) couldn't even fit on the ride and was full of praise for how the staff tried to make him fit and tried their best. I feel its hard to comment on the staff as he didn't show any altercation, I think if you were getting slagged off on camera you would go over to see what's going on its funny how quick Shawn wanted to shut him off.

I was there last week for a Lasertag tournament. The Aerospace was running, as was the big wheel. The other rollercoaster and the log flume didn't appear to be operating.

Aerospace has moved from where it was behind Big Wheel, it’s moved down Park so facing towards the Old Harbour
In my experience as 40 year old man i will never go to Wales again. Ive been so many times and they are rude and its expensive. I take my custom to Devon and Cornwall now as they are more polite and welcoming.

Ever since aerospace opened last month
It's been open everyday apart from the day you visited.
This vlog is now at 30k views and counting.....if being a showman wasn't hard enough you've made it a lot harder for them now!

Regularly down Barry island as it’s only a short 20 minute train trip from Cardiff Areo Space was closed when I was down there last week they were refuelling it but they had it running in couple hours as for the Communication I’ve never had a problem with the the staff.
I’m sure I’ll get on it at some point!
i miss Butlins as it was great just crossing the road to the Barry island pleasure park when a kid great days
Airborne had the same issues in it's opening year by the way. It was more SBNO then operating. They needed a year with KMG to resolve the issues
Hopefully they can get the issues resolved soon!

Showman have a tough time without this dire vlog.
Do your research before travelling and you will find that there is at ticket box and that Charles Harris owns the Promenade permanent fair.
It's not their communication its your lack of research.
Stick to towers etc and leave the Fairs to the fair channels etc.

Hi Sean and Charlotte. I spent my annual holidays at Barry Island as a child which was about 40 years ago. The Amusement Park back then was actually great fun with some great attractions, especially the best fun house that I have ever seen. I have returned a number of times as an adult hoping to relive some great times in the park. The reality is that it not even comparable now to what it once was. I was shocked to see lifted tarmac that was unsafe to walk on, abandoned rides that clearly have not been looked after and just a general feel of extremely poor management of the park. I know many British seaside resorts have suffered in the past 25 years, however if you mean to keep the amusement park open then at least make it safe for people to walk around. The extremely rude member of staff that you encountered is another example of unacceptable management. For me, given that I have so many happy memories of Barry Island, I find it actually upsetting to watch the amusement park deteriorate to what it has become. I wish someone would turn it around and restore to its former glory. The current management are clearly unable to do so.

The last time IN went to Barry Island park was in the 1980s and they had one drop log flume, a whacy gold mine ride, enterprise, jets, tri star. big wheel. a jungle boat ride, a really fast ghost train, twister, waltzer, swing a round, big fun house, dodgems and a good fast coaster.

That ride operator gives us us Welsh a bad name. Should have gave him a good slap. I just missed you when you was there I'm gutted. Please don't let that tool put you off coming again in the future. Us Welsh are great so take no notice of that turd mate. Keep up the good work both.

Awesome vlog as always! So odd question for ya, with such a famous song in the background, how do you not get copyright strikes? Other channels I watch (like Techmoan) just refuse to play any music while looking at retro music players for that reason.
Happens on my channel a lot, film any rides with music and we can a strike aswell
I usually try and talk over the music or use short clips!

Pretty bad of Ride operator Gadger at 16:52 for being very rude to you and Charlotte - Self defeating in the end that they dish an ride influencer with huge UK and international following and Rude gadger put Barry Island in bad light and likely distract punters away After this scene should walked out and simply cut the blog to this scene and to highlight how unimpressed you were with park and uploaded just like this. It should be for the management of Barry Island for them to offer you a full apology to you and Charlotte - totally disgusted.

I’ve never been to Barry Island before and I have to say that after watching this video I certainly have absolutely no desire to go there. Rudeness like that to guests is unacceptable and very off-putting, seems such a stupid thing to do when someone is genuinely trying to promote your ride to a wide audience!

would love to of visited that park when the Scenic Railway (identical to Great Yarmouth) was still there. I didnt realise they have removed the log flume which was built from remnants of that beautiful coaster.

I was talking about the ride and promoting it, before he came over and spoke to me in a very rude manner. Such a shame as the park has potential!
I went to the park years ago under the previous owner and found it to be very underwhelming. Think the money pit for them had gone dry and they were struggling. Mr Danter took over and with help from his family and friends opened what I would call a brilliant little amusement park there. His passion is so clear to see and there's plenty of interviews out there where you can see that. I'm sad to see you had a bad experience there, I'd love to know the full story here because it is so disappointing to see somebody having a bad experience here.
Henry does seem very passionate and it was great to chat to him later in the day. Unfortunately the owner of the Matterhorn ride is really giving this place a bad name as if certainly ruined our day!
I went on top scan last week and I nearly passed out while on the ride cause I didn't think it would get that intense going backwards btw love the vlogs

That man was so rude and you were right to walk away from him.
If I owned a theme park and someone was being rude to my customers, that person would be sacked. Bad behaviour from staff is not tolerated and it’s not fair on anyone else.
