Coleraine is a really neat A-harmonic minor Irish jig! For some reason, this jig makes me think of fancy castles and royalty -- there's something about it that sounds somewhat aristocratic. A lot of harmonic minor tunes make me think of that for some reason. The G# adds a leading tone that really makes the tune stand out. It also has a really bouncy, almost "slide" sounding vibe to it. It's a great tune to learn, and seems to be fairly popular where I live in Colorado!
I tried using the PPLD Studio at 21C equipment to record this video. I felt a bit like a fish out of water trying to figure out all of the equipment and microphones on the fly, but I think I managed to pull something together in the little amount of time I had had the studio reserved. I think if I went there again, I'd have a better idea of what I was doing and could maybe set everything up a little better. t definitely was a big learning experience for me!
I'm not sure how much it shows, but I was overly nervous filming this video... There's something about not filming in my home that made me really nervous making this. Lots of people were watching me through the studio window, which was also adding to my nerves lol! Hopefully the video is still useful.
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good week!
~ Katy

Oh.....oh my... This is proper studio quality, I love it. You can see the left hand AND the bowing. Cool upgrade ma'am
Yea! Katy! This is a great training tutorial - the upper camera shot really shows the finger positions. I like how you work the speed up and the confidence level builds! It's fun watching the closed captioning work on this as well - didn't know you worked with Boeing!
Two comments that may help (or not) - 1) install a low power fill light near the upper camera to help eliminate the finger shadows on the fingerboard. 2) for beginners - you may want to have the finger positions taped so they can identify exactly where your fingers are going (yes, there's a lot of conversation whether or not for beginners to tape their fingerboards, but that's another discussion :) )
Have a great 4th!
Love your training! Very personable! I'm learning this.
you play it so delightfully with clarity and joy

Katy you did a wonderful performance as always. Thank you so much for making these tutorials and your videos. They are really inspiring and motivating, and your good mood is catching too.😃 Greetings from Norway.
Started learning it yesterday and been able to memorize full tune by today (just had a little trouble with mid part of the B section), now it's just a question of slowly speeding it up to tempo. As always (since Drowsie Maggie and Tamlin) you keep me going on, in spite of lack of fiddlel teachers quite difficult to find around the Rome (Italy) area. Thanks again and again !
Thank you . Really great tutorial .
You're amazing.
Great tune! Haven’t seen ya in a while! Hopefully you have been having some wonderful fun time in life 👍👏👏🙏

Katy, are you still using oliv gut strings? I have an evah pirazzi on my e string and I like it a lot!
🥰
Thank you Katy! Love the split screen arrangement. Simply amazing! Agreed, the melody is a little strange.
I love you
👍😘
It’s a fun tune but you’ve mispronounced Coleraine. It’s pronounced Cole-rain like Cole for your fire and rain from the sky. The E is silent at the end.
Coll- rain....
