    Think about this: when the whole world was done with a major war in 1945, the Vietnamese kept on fighting for another 30 years with the French, the U.S. and the Chinese. So I don’t know if France was ambitious enough to develop the country or just keep it as a travel resort for French ppl instead . I have to say that in the old days the French teachers taught really well. Baby boomers at that time who chose French class spoke fluent French and with their wits and intellect im sure they could benefit from east and west thinking and develop Vietnam. @@florencechan1184 Your statement that the French system is "more socialist" and encourages people to "stay on welfare and work less hard" is quite misleading.
      France has a mixed economy that balances free market principles with a robust social welfare system aimed at supporting its citizens, particularly during times of need. While it's true that France offers comprehensive social benefits, this doesn't mean it encourages laziness. On the contrary, these benefits provide a safety net that enables individuals to take entrepreneurial risks, pursue education, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
      Additionally, the French workforce is highly productive, contributing significantly to global industries such as technology, luxury goods, and agriculture. Simplifying the French system as one that promotes idleness overlooks the broader goals of social equity, economic stability, and quality of life improvements that such systems aim to achieve.

I thought they learned their lesson that being a subject of other nation is depressing.
    After all of those hardships they endured, Vietnam deserved its peace, prosperity, and happiness.

    Vietnam had the longest stretch of being un-invaded for 3.5 centuries, from the Le Dynasty's defeat of the Ming's rule in 1428 to the Tay Son's (Quang Trung King) defeat of the Qing invading force in 1789. During that episode, Champa was the unlucky kingdom that engaged in existential wars with Dai Viet (ancient Vietnam), leading to its demise. Since then, Vietnam was on a downward spiral, starting from the arch-conservative, backward Nguyen Dynasty leading to the colonization of Vietnam by the French. So, the victory over the French colonists, at tremendous cost of human lives and people's suffering, while glorious to the present regime, was hardly any more notable compared with Le Loi's defeat of the Ming, and Nguyen Hue's defeat of the Qing. It is nothing glorious about being so weak that people trampled on you like slaves, and you had to make tremendous sacrifice to just to stand up. In latter half of the 19th century, while Japan underwent the Meiji Restoration, Vietnam Nguyen Dynasty self-destructed with massive power abuse and corruptions, which is still being done by Vietnam communists today.

    • @josephwu3136
      @josephwu3136 6 місяців тому

      China was never defeated. Mao Zedong withdrew his troops after seeing how easy it was to invade Vietnam. The invasion of Vietnam wasn’t to provoke or threaten the sovereignty of Vietnam but it was primarily a show of force on display for Vietnam to know chinas support for the Khmer Rouge. Mao wanted to put pressure on the Vietnamese to let them know to fall back on the engagement with the Khmer Rouge. Neither Vietnam or China had actual beef but more like a big brother offering his constructive role.

      @heian17 6 місяців тому +10

      @@josephwu3136it's safe to say China was defeated. For these reasons :
      1. China said it could occupy Hanoi in a week, but has never been able to make it.
      2. China wanted Vietnam to withdraw from Cambodia, but Vietnam hadn't until 1989.
      3. China wanted Vietnam to know who was the real communist leader, but Vietnam was still pro-Soviet Union until its collapse. Even now, Vietnamese history textbook still praise Soviet a lot.
      4. Vietnamese history textbook teach about the 1979 war, but China has no line for it, because Chinese know they were defeated.
      So none of China's aims were realized, so we can easily tell who was the loser now. I don't think Vietnam won, given that Vietnam got nothing from the war, but clearly China lost.

    Le récit de la guerre d'Indochine est un peu rapide quand on sait que le rapport de force s'est nettement inversé pendant le conflit, passant de 6 Français contre 1 vietminh en 1946 à 1 Français contre 3 en 1954. L'aide chinoise et soviétique a seule permis la victoire communiste au même titre qu'une aide américaine aurait permis une victoire française.
    Petit point technique important pour l'image de l'Armee française: le 7 mai 1954, les troupes françaises ne se sont pas rendues, aucun drapeau blanc n'a été levé, aucun cessez le feu n'a été signé. Les soldats communistes ont simplement envahi le camp que les Français avaient choisi de ne plus défendre. C'est une défaite certes, mais pas une capitulation ni une reddition.

      De Castries ordered his man to not surrender but let the Viet Minh capture them. In practice, this is no difference from a surrender. A defeated army can still retreat, but not in DBP, where the whole army was captured, even De Castries and his staff were captured.

      France divided our country into three parts: the protectorate of Tonkin in the North, the protectorate of Annam in the Central, and the colony of Cochinchina in the South. Although on paper, the Nguyen dynasty was supposed to govern Tonkin and Annam, in reality, French officials held all the power. The Nguyen dynasty was merely a puppet, manipulated by the French.

How could they using swords fight modern French army with guns and canons. That's the reason why European colonialists French, England, Portugal, Spain, Netherland, Germany, Italy, Belgium etc.... were so successful colonizing Asian, African, South American countries around the world. 80 years later, with Russian and Chinese modern weapons you know the end result.
