Why just 3 leafs? I just replaced my sagging 4 leaf springs with 5 leaf springs from General Spring out of the Kansas City area(Olathe/Gardner Kansas). Granted I have an 8' bed. Not sure if Ford added a leaf for longer bed trucks. Looks like Ford had some QC issues with their springs during that time. Just finished the job today in early 2024. Doesn't ride bad at all.
Hey man, I’m looking to replace my springs and would also be cutting the bolts, I read online regular grade 8 steel bolts would work fine, but I’m very wary on what size bolt I’m looking for. Rather not rip one off the truck to find out. Would 5/8” x 4.5 “ sound right?
I did on the bolts head using the wrench holding the nuts or just do it with the wrench and extension. Suspension components if over tight them no matter just don’t break them and with those bolts not easy the break them Thanks
I cut mine with a M12 Non-Fuel Sawzall. I used a stubby blade and cut off the top of the blade after the teeth at the end of the blade were worn from the first cut.
Question first thing I took off was front bolt by muffler then took off u joints noticed pressure so I jacked it up abt 2 feet then tried taking out rear bolt and noticed it almost bent my bolt noticed insane amount of pressure like it was going to fly up when I pulled the bolt out as soon as I pulled bolt out was kneeling down by the bumper btw bumper and bed is off bec rebuilding frame the u joint went flying under truck and the right side of truck listed up and the left side went down what did I do wrong or was it a freak accsident ?
So im getting different torque specs for the shackle bolts. Accord to a repair manual the two bolts on the shackle should be 98 ft lb (100 basically) which makes sense since those two bolts are the same size. In the video he mentions one at 200ft lbs and the other 100ft lb. Can you clarify please.
I hope I didn't hear you correctly when you said you had extra water on hand in case you had a fire with the fuel tank, not a good idea at all. that is what they make fire extinguishers for. especially CO2 virtually no cleanup afterwards other than your underwear
@@CoyoteMischief you are right but it on the suspension not something like cylinder head bolts. So, for old vehicle as long as it not come lose and falling apart and we will responsible for what we did and warranty the job, customer happy in the end 👍
Very nicely detailed video. It's great that you included torque specs and especially the torque procedure!
Thank you excellent video.
Thanks for the video! Do you remember what size socket you used for the bolts going in to the fronts and backs of the springs?
Front is 24mm or 27mm, Rear is 19mm, 21mm and 19 and 18mm wrench
@@silverstonespov5291 Thanks!

17.85 mm (D) x 6" (L)
@@silverstonespov5291 Where can I buy these?
@@noahphillips5988 It came with the new leaf springs or you can get them at the Ford dealer
Thanks for this video!
good job, sir. only thing i would have different is replace those rusty shackle bolts.
Were you able to fit a torque wrench to able to tighten stuff to spec?

Nice job
Milwaukee torch carbon tooth blades cut them bolts off great.

The truck have to lift up until the rear wheel of the ground, rear suspension fully hanging. Sounds like suspension still under pressure
Good video
Thanks
@@silverstonespov5291 just did a set today and it went great. Did all breaks and front struts yesterday.

100 ft lb is enough, but 200 is just more tight, the bolts is big so it will not snap. Tighter is better than loose
200 is a factory spec. edit: 200 Nm ( 148 lb-ft) is for for shackle to frame and for spring to shackle, 133 Nm ( 98 lb-ft) for U bolt nuts.
Where did you get the leaf spring bolts?
@@CoyoteMischief The bolts and nuts came with the leaf spring, dealer also have them too
@@silverstonespov5291 I got the dealer one, their too long when put in the oposite way. They hit the gas tank
@@CoyoteMischief I see, you can used hack saw to cut some end off
Can you not get the springs and U-bolts at rockauto?
We got the springs, bolts and nuts from Standen springs factory not Rockauto

I used water to wet the area before I cut so it less chance for fire.
all bolts and nuts are one time use only, they're not reusable
They’re can be reused if the nylon on the nuts are still good and the bolts not so rusty and use the red thread looking
@@silverstonespov5291 The threads also stretch. Not sure if the human eye would see it.
