Hi Manny, I have a 2011 328i AWD and having issues with coolant temp/overheating. The water pump does not kick on, and it overheats. If I reset the water pump by pulling the fuse and plugging it back it works fine for a while, but it again stops working after a while 100 miles or so. Any idea what it could be? Do I need to replace the pump?
Ok, you're resetting the WP temp sensor every time you disconnect fuse. So it runs in reset mode for 100 miles then goes back to normal operation. My hunch is your water pump is on the fritz. Can't be sure without checking car, but it's a big possibility.
@@wavybumpNo it won’t work. If it gives an error, you know it’s not getting power. If actuation is carried out but it doesn’t pump, your pump is bad. But easiest way to know is just scan and look for codes like “water pump missing”. NOTE, normal pressure can push water out of that tiny hole in the can, it doesn’t mean the water pump is working.
This problem is something other than just a wire some of the time. I had the very same codes (2E84 and 2E85) after replacing the water pump. I took my pro tool app which has the full capabilities of INPA etc. I turned the pump on and off with 50% cycling and 95% cycling. It turned on just fine at the rates they should have with both of those tests from the app. After I did that I drove the car for about 30 mins and the codes 2E84 and 2E85 went away. Before that I had checked fuses and revisited the ground and thermostat wiring with no problems at those places. I think there is a problem with communication after the pump is removed and replaced yet the car will work but the thermostat seems to throw codes and not work until it re establishes it's communication for some strange reason. Very weird. But I'm not an expert like you are this just seems very strange to not be very clear and to happen so often after swapping out a new pump. Oh I just read an answer you gave to someone in the comments section that they should reset their adaptations after the new pump is installed. This makes sense to me and is good info. If I run into mine giving those codes again or the thermostat not working with those codes I'll reset them and see.
