Today is another old and new comparison. The old flagship Pixel 4 XL and the new midrange Pixel 6a, you may find both phone with similar price in used market. Pixel 6a is 449 usd with dual 12 megapixel rear camera and a single 8 megapixel camera.
while Pixel 4 XL is just a bit lower at $300 to 400 usd also with dual 12 megapixel main camera and identical 8 megapixel selfie. Both phones has the same main shooter on paper.

What's clearly noticeable is that the noise reduction algorithm has become extremely aggressive in the new Pixels, such a shame that the new HDRNet processing is inferior than previous HDR+ model (may have something to do with the Tensor, wish Google stuck with Qualcomm). I have to use a modded lib/XML just to make my P6 Pro process images better

You are the only one who have done this comparison, i have been waiting for this for a while, i was wandering if it worthed the upgrade from my 4xl to the 6a, but i think it doesn't, better wait for the 7a to get a better 2x zoom than the 6a (it is just so good in the 4xl, it is like a 50 mm, perfect for portraits or just give a more professional look to the shots)
7a will be in the middle of this year, I'll probably compare 4xl with that too! Am I the only one who did this? Glad we made a comparison, I think some people are also curious. 👍
Pixel 6a and Pixel 4xl have the same Sony IMX363 sensor and the ISP on the new Tensor is also superior so it should technically perform better in low-light.

I often feel since 5a and 6a winning the camera blind tests 2 years , if they stuck a 4xl in the mix it would be beating all the flagships using nothing but logic since the 4xl still seems to often shoot better. Hahah
I am always having issues with the 6a light flairs. My older 4a even mange light flairs amazingly

The only pixel better than pixel 4 xl is pixel 8 pro but that too feels hefty and redundant after you use both side by side. I returned my pixel 8 pro and got a new battery for my old 4xl

At night, 4xl is a bit better. During the day I like 6a. battery 4xl much weaker than 6a. 4xl or sudden death. buy 6a is reasonable.
