      Just keep in mind that this is temporary. The squeaking will happen again, eventually. I’ll do another video showing the better longer term solution.

      WD40 is not a lubricant

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  9 місяців тому

      @bigjohnharvey That’s accurate. Longer term fixes for this need white lightning or another comparable lubricant.

  • @As-px4gn

    Well WD-40 is good for cleaning the parts it is not the proper fix. WD-40 is solvents and stands for water displacement formula 40. It cleans it okay but you might even be better off with some other solvent even acetone to remove manufacturing grime and lubrication. The use of a dry lubricant such as graphite powder is the proper fix. After cleaning the parts apply a light dusting of this powder catching any residue with the towel apply some down through the hinge holes and some on the PIN it will stick by static electricity insert the PIN problem solved! WD-40 will eventually dry out and the squeaking will come back, now you're waking the dead again. Graphite powder is sold at all home depots and hardware stores in little tubes and it's the proper lubrication fix for locks that stick and anything that does not get wet it can even be used in cars.

      Graphite is smart. I didn't think of that

      If your going to use the blaster that dries quickly, take really good care not to get it on the paint or let it drip before it dries, its a pain to get off. I took my pins out and shot them in the sink with a paper towel backer. Worked like a charm.

    Wd40 good for quick fix but may not last long. White lithium and other grease would last longer.

      I tried wd-40 once. It didn’t last a week. Tried it a second time and the same happened, not even a couple days. It’s a new door and hinges. Gonna try a grease I have for mechanics which I used for a sliding door on a van that really needed some lubricant since the sliding doors were really hard to slide.

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  9 місяців тому

      @@raba650 White lightning grease is a great option that is more long term.

    What do i use if i dont have wd 40 also my dooe hinge dont have that naily thing

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  7 місяців тому

      If your hinge doesn’t have the large pin, you might need to replace the entire hinge. They make “no squeak” hinges for situations like this.

    Would axel grease work better

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  7 місяців тому

      I’ve never tried axel grease, but, in theory, it should work. My preferred choice would be white lightning. 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  2 роки тому +2

      I should have said that this approach won’t last forever. LOL! A grease, such as white lithium, works very well and will definitely last longer than WD-40.
