I've noticed people that are against work from home have a micromanagement vibe. Worrying an hour or hours might not be utilized when the same amount of work is completed in X amount of time will drive talented employees away. It just means you have to be able to hire the correct employees, which is probably another micromanagement issue. So the employees being hired by that type in the first place probably can't even be trusted, since talented people will be able to sniff out the micromanagement. I will add, I'm fully remote and make 6 figures. All my work gets done and I'm always available during business hours.
I think the WFH discussion would be better informed if you guys connected with leaders who actually work in an established and fully scaled corporation. (Google, Meta, Microsoft, Netflix, etc.) A lot of the questions you guys would be much more easily answered and would probably support you guys as you continue to scale and build out your companies. Maxx your points are valid, if you gave each person their own office, etc. etc. then why not just be in the office? But you have to understand that is now how most corporate environments work. Most companies: - Don't give you your own office (think cubicles or the terrible open space environments) - Don't let you bring your dog or child to work (that's increased costs from doggy daycare, dog walking, child daycare, etc.) - Don't let you wear comfortable clothes (button down and slacks and dress shoes, yuck) - Take forever to get to and from during rush hour (20 min commute could turn into 1.5 hours, not to mention you'd have to wake up that much earlier to beat traffic, drop your dog off at daycare, then get home late cuz you got to gym then pick up your dog, etc. etc.) Just overall a really shitty situation which is why a lot of people prefer working from home nowadays, a hybrid environment could bridge the gap for you. Also, if you're worried about people just dicking around while they're at home. You got to do what the major corporations do, set concrete work hours and expectations (if I need you at 3pm, you better be available, etc.) and also communicate you expect people to come into the office for major meetings and/or other strategic collaboration sessions. Lastly, to echo Christian's point, you have to create/set concrete KPI's, performance metrics and a performance review process for each role/level that you designate within the company just as all the major corporations do. This alone will mitigate the risks of people just doing the bare minimum. It pushes people to perform or get pushed out and also gives them the opportunity to level up and move vertically within the company. *For context I have been in Management Consulting for the past 10 years, this is literally how all large businesses work*
I work from home now after going into an office for the past ten years. The quality of life I have WFH actually has me working more for the company now. For example I go to the gym in the morning and I clock in at 9-9:30 am and no one bothers me. I can run errands at lunch or enjoy a leisurely lunch. Because I’m happier at work and there’s flexibility, I actually work more and I’m happy to work.
Agree with this! It shows how limited their experiences are. I work at one of largest services firms and large sample size of employees wouldn’t work with these guys because their POV is not testament to where job market is. Work life balance and managing life, family, work.. and still being a high performer is happening all over.
Yup lol this was such an old school manager rant. As if having someone in an office means they’re working all the time, if someone slacks off at home they’ll do the same in the office. And no, you don’t pay for my time, you pay for my results. There’s jobs where working more time produces more output, you can make an argument in those, but in more creative/thinking jobs, hours spent are a pointless metric. Personally, I’m probably the person who works less hours in my team, but the second one when it comes to results. Client’s happy, my company is happy, I’m happy. If I worked more hours the only variable that would change is me being miserable, and turns out that a miserable person tends to performs worse.
One of the main reasons people want to work from home is reduction of travel expenses and ease of child care. I think you guys are confusing remote working with flexible working. Both can be provided or one in isolation. Sounds like you guys need a strong COO to support you with managing your operations more effectively. Hit me up :)
Any real COO would understand KPIs & how majority of the time production drops with people working remote as there is less accountability. You have to be motivated on your own to effectively work remote, if not the flexibility will eat you alive.
In fairness, both of these guys are true visionaries. They shouldn't have to be embroiled in day to day operations but clearly are due to a lack of effective business management practices. I remember Christian referencing he was outsourcing HR - on the face of it that often sounds great to CEOs but the reality is you usually receive a cookie cutter service from a team who's far less invested in the businesses success than a strong in house HRBP or Chief People Officer etc. It's clear from the way he talks about people issues, he has issues around org design and performance management.
CG “I can’t do shots, I just started prep”(still takes the shot) CG 45 mins into the the POD “So we doing another shot?” LOL. Love how chill they all are.
The WFH talk starts at 34:00 for those curious. I agree that the innovation for your company should be in person with other people but if you are doing something that has repetitive tasks with a very specific outcome that doesn't require creativity and just needs to be knocked out day in and day out, WFH is superior. For example, tech sales. Stuff like what y'all are doing with building new things for the gyms, new clothing ideas, new software for the gyms, and whatnot. I also get the sense that despite the goofiness of Maxx he's a bit of a control freak personality wise. Be a good friend, and a good investor to work with, not someone I'd work under however based on this conversation. Give me more freedom to do what I want and I'll max your output to 100x. You want that as a business owner so you can focus on the even higher level thinking for the organization tasks and building new ones.
For real. He basically thinks he owns someone during the work hours to do as he pleases. Naw, dawg, you're the one paying them at the end of the day and if someone saw me as just another person to have at their beck and call I'd peace the eff outta that. Plus, your employees should know what their job is day to day. If you have to create that for them that doesn't sound like you have a defined description of what should be done in each job. I've been burned in jobs before by doing way more than was technically asked of me to bend over backwards for someone/a company buy not getting paid said compensation for the job.
The WFH conversation 😂 I work from home and definitely work longer hours now because I end up working during what used to be my commute time. Living in a metro area, you can spend at least 2 hours a day just commuting. You might be paying for my time but why should I waste another 2+ hours of my time for your time? That’s part of the work from home balance you’re missing. I’m not using my time during the day (work day) for me but in the morning I now have time to actually work out, take my dog for a real walk, etc. When I’m done working, I’m done and I’m home. I’m available all day. We have teams, we have slack, we’re 👏🏻 available. I agree with other comments that people who want you in the office tend to be micromanagers. I’m way too busy not to be working… I’ve never experienced the environment of being given so few deliverables or tasks that I could do 2 things and then watch Netflix. Wild man. You need managers who are skillful in their own strategic leadership to manage others.
The WFH topic is super interesting to me as someone who is WFH 24/7 and lives in the NYC area. I, personally, make WAY more money (I work in sales) than I did when I was commuting in and generally feel so much happier. We all have a set schedule of 8:30am to 5:30pm but you can adjust if needed. Not only do I no longer have this long commute that drains me but I can sleep in longer and have more freedom, time to get things done. I can generally eat whenever I want, take breaks and work in a way chiller atmosphere. I'm super autonomous so that works very well for me. My gym schedule can either be 6am or 5:30pm and I love having the flexibility daily to chose which I want since my gym is a block away. I totally understand their points though depending on the type of job you do as some ppl do slack off/are less productive. I, overall am a huge, huge supporter of WFH as long as it works for you and you're productive. Some people need that office/other ppl around them vibe and I totally understand that.
I love the inner circle friends podcast. It feels like we’re just getting an inside view on y’all’s daily conversations which is super cool. Keep up the great work!
Maxx is a super micro manager sheeeeeesh youre projecting your own experience working from home onto other people. Just cause you decided to fuck around doesn't mean other people will.
First off I absolutely love Christian and everything he puts his mind into. There's not been a guy I've seen be so consistent throughout the years. Big goals and he always gets there. Everyone thought Alphaland was going to be a car crash but just like Maxx says, nothing that a positive attitude and more money can't fix :) Both Maxx and Christian have been big inspirations to me. On the working from home topic, I have been at it for the past 3 years and I can guarantee you that I have been more productive in these 3 years than the last however many years in an office. I am not interrupted to chit chat about the weekend and I am focused. I work in an environment where I do need to apply creativity and innovation to what I do together with my team, I think Joe's view that innovation cannot happen without someone being present is slightly outdated. Any good collaboration tools online will allow for all activities you would do in person. In addition, wfh saves not only on crazy commuting expenses but also time, time is extremely valuable to many of us who would much rather spend 1 hour with the family than 1 hour sitting/ standing on a busy train.
I stopped going to the gym cause everyone and they grandma was filming. I always had to wait to walk in front of their phone or camera .. was so sick of it happy with my home gym now .. pretty cool Christian is addressing it .
That dude Joe is my spirit animal. Seriously his whole vibe is my soul. Maxx you are as funny as it gets and have been saying for YEARS that you should be a writer on a comedy show or sitcom. But Joe is SO FUNNY without even trying, not even sure if he knows how funny he really is! Love your podcasts Maxx and thank you so much for all the work you put into all your content.
Need to have an inner circle podcast at least once a month! Great episode! Your guys chemistry flows so easily! I think Taylor and Joe being on the same pod could be insane
More friends episodes, really enjoy them! Also work from home/remote is excellent. Have been remote software dev for 4 years and would never go back to an office. I get 2+ hours back from my day that I didn't get while working in office. No morning commute, no after work commute, no morning prep/making lunch. Can make better healthier lunch/less reason to eat out. Save money on gas, eating out, lower stress in general. I think I see you guys as coming from perspective as employer. Which I get, you don't want to waste your time or the employees time. Also the perspective of small/mid size business. If an employee isn't responsible enough to work remote and complete the work, then maybe they shouldn't be hired in the first place. Core work hours is a very common thing in remote positions. Each remote team I've been on has set hours you are expected to be online/working/available.
Love this podcast! Perfect start to my week! Just guys being dudes! I love when Joe and Christian are on the show! Just wanted to touch on the WFH argument if y’all are willing to be open minded. I work more than I do in an office. When I’m in the office I’m looking for someone to shoot the shit with. I’m not locking myself in my office to work cause I can do that at home. I log in at 7:15-7:30, I work through lunch, I’m always logged on til 5pm or later. I definitely don’t feel like my work is worth less than someone else’s based on my offices setting not being in a space the company pays for. Lots of people who do work in an office view the commute as part of work time, if that’s the case I’m already working when what would by my “commute”. I think needing KPI is a little big brother and a turn off to already hard working individuals, now if you had concerns on what an individual is doing that’s when something like that should be enforced. WFH gives me more opportunity to just wear brands like alphalete and buffbunny all day every day, sometimes twice a day cause I lift before work. The only break I take is to walk my dood for 20-25min a day in the morning. Maybe im just not built like everyone else. Always wanted to work for alphalete, but remotely cause I own a home, so that was a little dream crushing. Anyway! Can’t wait for next week!
Seems like Maxx doesn't like many differing opinions from his, but strong in your opinion ain't a bad thing. Maybe just needs to be more open and accepting
I think is probably one of your best episodes so far to date Maxx! Big fan and long time follower of your channel from Ireland and I love these type of conversations more than anything else. I love Joe as well he’s such an honest, down to earth & authentic dude who is someone I’d love to have as a friend to hang out with regularly. These conversations should be a regular thing you have on the pod every month 💫👌🏻🙌🏼
Loved this episode!!! ❤ I thought it was super interesting to hear everyone giving their advice and two cents on one another’s businesses, goals, etc. please have these two guests on like one episode every other month.
Loved this episode. Not to say I don’t like the other guests but when you have conversations about friends that I would also have with my friends, I can definitely relate more 😁 excited for every four weeks
Great episode Maxx! The inner circle pods are always great. Seems like you’re chilling with your friends since many of us watch the entire groups stuff.
you can tell Max loves to be center of attention and hear himself talk. He waste no time cutting ppl off just to get his point across. You can tell he isn;t even really listening, just thinking of what he's going to say. great episode though
It was already brought up, but working from home saves so much driving time, gas, and is better for the environment. Also, working from home allows people to get more sleep, and be less sleep-deprived. As a student, most of my classes are online, because I think physically showing up is often not worth the hassle. I only take classes like sailing or surfing in person.
After watching Joe on a couple of these podcasts, I have to say he seems the most grounded. The man has a good head on his shoulders. Also, stress is a killer boys. It will definitely shorten your life. Make your money and enjoy it.
so if somebody is working from home it means he/she is taking advantage of the company, but if the person works from the office, then the company takes advantage of that person.
Christian is my favorite guest on the podcast 😊 he seems relaxed with Max and you can tell he has immense respect nd love for him their friendship is top tier
I agree with christian, when i worked from home it was between normal office hours and had to login and be available on the system. Working from home was great for me with a disability where i can’t always get into work i dont lose pay and have less sick days. Also i get more work done as i dont have background noise and distractions.
Yeah same here. I like not having to pack a lunch or deal with a long commute while saving on gas. Plus a big thing is the wardrobe. I wish I could wear active wear to the office.
CG's aggressive ambitions are really impressive, but they have clearly taken their toll... He seems tight, stressed, anxious etc.... His mental health needs to be the priority.
Working from home doesn't equal to employees choosing whatever time they feel like working at. They can't just decide to work a 8pm-4am shift for example. I agree with CG, if you just put in the contract that your employee has to work a 9am-5pm shift, then no matter what, they should be available to answer any calls, run a work errand, etc., during that time even if they're WFH.
I deal with ERP Systems in my engineering job. It stands for Enterprise Resource Program. Basically a system where you keep track of your inventory, manufacturing step, scheduling, billing, all types of task that is used in manufacturing and big business settings. It is daunting to use and takes time to learn.
Paying a wage to someone doesn't mean "You do whatever I say no matter what it is, you're at my will." You need to outline what a job entails and what the responsibilities are, you can't just say "get up and stop what you're doing let's go somewhere" like they're your slave. Narrow minded take.
You're worried about Christian not knowing a few acronyms yet can't see why people want to perform their job from home when they do it with efficiency, without the annoyance of a commute, and dedicating their lives to your "job." This is why Christian is popping off as a business owner.
@@software_development I agree, looked like a giant douche making such a big deal about Guz not knowing KPI meaning. Clearly not knowing has held Guz back all these years. ..... lol
I love Christian's and Joe's unstated views on evolution. 😀 They're champs! To decide between public and private schools, Maxx should compare his public-school education to his own brother's private school education.
Personally one of my favorite podcast episodes ever, just seemed very natural and I loved the questions that Max made regarding money, when is "enough" enough. I think there comes a point where living is more important than constantly building and I feel (could be wrong) that Max is getting there - better to get there earlier than later so anyways super long unnecessary comment but Im a big fan and hopefully Max see's this and I can finally win a bag of Sour Strips. P.S. it would be cool to have more women on the podcast because we have such a different perspective and role in this fitness industry than men
Don’t agree about working from home, everyone is different. I worked remotely many more hours from home than I would have in an office, not distracted or doing one thing for myself. It was unhealthy. Just bc you would screw off or work better in an office doesn’t mean everyone does.
point of video....I am so much like joe we could be best friends, having 3 kids in public school I can relate but I'm also 37 years old, I sometimes wonder just out of curiosity what the people I follow are actually like or what their actual values are vs. the person they are afraid to show everyone. I guess the point is I appreciate the honesty and openness of not being afraid of the lack of support, much appreciated.
That’s a lot of opinions of working from home from 2/3 individuals who haven’t worked from home. I’ve noticed most bosses that are against wfh are very reactive in their own roles.
Public vs private is such a loaded conversation. I’m not rich and my kids go to private school. In fact, 50% of the school is on state scholarship. It has little to do with income. Where the difference is made is a private school has the right to accept or deny students. A public school does not. So if we have a student in the private sector who caused problems all year, he will not be asked back for the following year. My kids also have a classroom of 9-14 compared to the public school who has 25-30 students per class. So many factors make a difference in my child’s education. Now, that being said, I have always taught my children that, if necessary, they could attend the public school and be just fine, just as I was. It’s not all about elitist attitudes. I know some kids that struggled at our private school, switched to public school and thrived and vice versa. I personally have one child that I think would struggle in public and one that I think would thrive. Something I also find interesting is one of my public school teachers criticized me for sending my kids to private school because she said “public school was good enough” for me and my husband. I replied, yea sure, if “good enough” means cheating in math class from 6-12th grade because that’s exactly what I did. Now, 8 years later, not only does her grandchild attend the same private school as my children, she also teachers there 😂
I love Maxx but absolutely brutal as a host on this episode specifically. They talked 90% of the time about generational wealth when you can tell both Christian/Joe wanted him to talk about something else. Even at the 1:25 minute mark, Christian was surprised it was ending because they didn’t talk about anything other than that. Disappointing
Definitely can tell you guys own your companies vs work for major corporations. WFH, at least a hybrid of a few days a week is essential for work life balance. I’m an engineer in process for major Pharma, unless we are qualifying equipment or running initial batches, there is no reason for me to come to site. I can get everything else done from home. It is a very different mindset from owning a business.
The whole podcast was just Maxx trying to tell Christian he is concerned about his health and he wants him to take better care of himself 😢 such a good friend.
I personally LOVE the inner circle podcast episodes ! Thanks for doing them every 4 weeks man!

I absolutely love the convo about the schools!! Y’all are amazing for putting this out !!!
You missed the point of my argument by a lot :(
@@dontbesourshow naw I didn't. You just don't like being called out on your own bs
@@laurenm8147 💯
Great pod. This one should definitely have been long format of at least 3 hours. Very entertaining. Give the friends episodes a name.
I stopped going to the gym cause everyone and they grandma was filming. I always had to wait to walk in front of their phone or camera .. was so sick of it happy with my home gym now .. pretty cool Christian is addressing it .
I feel sorry for new gym members because this has become the norm. I love having a home gym, saves time from commuting also.
I love these type of podcasts Maxx where you guys are just chatting business and life 👌🏼
Need to have an inner circle podcast at least once a month! Great episode! Your guys chemistry flows so easily! I think Taylor and Joe being on the same pod could be insane
Need more of these podcast with Joe and Christian
I really enjoy this type of podcast style talking about random topics. It’s great to see Christian again and Joe should definitely be a co-host.
Joe needs to be the Co-host at this point!
I’m down for a Heidi and Christian episode :)
The rolex bit had me😂 christian please buy a rolex and ask max to buy it for $10 off you to see if he buys it then announce max as a rolex owner 😂😂
17:28 you don’t need to own a business to realize CG was acting fully manic in that crazy ass vid. Bad take
Loved this episode!!!
Joe should be a guest every 3-6 months. He makes these so funny.
This regular 4 weeks ones will be my go to :D
Why is Joe's channel still up....
Joe's response to evolution is priceless.
Joe kills me man 😂. Definitely keep him on, didn’t even know who he was but I love him on here!
bro whattt Joe is an OG from the old days
@@Adrian-zu6tm more meant didn’t really know much about him and his personality. I know of him as a giraffe and that’s about it 😂
Lol😂
He's the OG giraffe
I love these kind of episodes so much 😂 mainly cause Joe and Maxx’s chemistry is magical. Adding in a 3rd guest just makes it better.
You talked about everything I’ve been thinking about for the last 2 years. Great podcast
After watching Joe on a couple of these podcasts, I have to say he seems the most grounded. The man has a good head on his shoulders. Also, stress is a killer boys. It will definitely shorten your life. Make your money and enjoy it.
This was GREAT. These have been better than the 1 on1s in my opinion. Also joes needs to be a cohost occasionally, I’ve enjoyed him on here.
This is a great friend group. All of you hype eachother up.
From 43:26 - great example of projection
I’ve seen every Don’t Be Sour episode. This is my favorite so far.
The three of you should be a weekly show.
agreed or at least monthly or quarterly
This .
First! Already know this Pod is going to be lit
Max being shell shocked when Christian has him in his will 😂 man was like I’m getting alphalete lol
Do one of these again!! Christian Joe and Max
Joe should make a programming channel, would love that! Think alot of people could relate and aspire to see the life of a self employed software dev.
Haven’t listened to a podcast DURING my lifting session ever. Until today👏🏼 great pod!
literally the best pod so far in the channel
so if somebody is working from home it means he/she is taking advantage of the company, but if the person works from the office, then the company takes advantage of that person.
Loved this podcast, wish it was longer :)
Yesssss Joe….Gotta keep him on as a cohost I love that he speaks the unpopular truth 😂
My favorite part was when you guys were going in on maxx 😂😂 so funny hahahahaha
Absolutely loved this episode ❤
CG's aggressive ambitions are really impressive, but they have clearly taken their toll... He seems tight, stressed, anxious etc.... His mental health needs to be the priority.
I just want this to be a Joe, CG, and Maxx podcast.
Love the idea of the friends episode segment every four weeks. 🙏
1:28:02 that’s crazy because this actually happened today. Prayers to all the familiess
15 min from me.
@@marykatepollreis3882 that’s bizarre and heartbreaking 💔 such an evil world
Crazy, i was just going to say that
Joe didn’t upload a video….
I deal with ERP Systems in my engineering job. It stands for Enterprise Resource Program. Basically a system where you keep track of your inventory, manufacturing step, scheduling, billing, all types of task that is used in manufacturing and big business settings. It is daunting to use and takes time to learn.
Loved this episode. Definitely think episodes like this sprinkled in with the traditional interview style podcast is perfect
My favourite episode of dont be sour. Very real and personal! Keep it coming Max.
Paying a wage to someone doesn't mean "You do whatever I say no matter what it is, you're at my will." You need to outline what a job entails and what the responsibilities are, you can't just say "get up and stop what you're doing let's go somewhere" like they're your slave. Narrow minded take.
You're worried about Christian not knowing a few acronyms yet can't see why people want to perform their job from home when they do it with efficiency, without the annoyance of a commute, and dedicating their lives to your "job." This is why Christian is popping off as a business owner.
you absolutely missed the point of what I was saying
@@software_development I agree, looked like a giant douche making such a big deal about Guz not knowing KPI meaning. Clearly not knowing has held Guz back all these years. ..... lol
I love Christian's and Joe's unstated views on evolution. 😀 They're champs!
To decide between public and private schools, Maxx should compare his public-school education to his own brother's private school education.
Maxx is clown. Point taken.
These friends podcasts are my fav for sure.. they’re all so clearly relaxed and their convos keep my engaged all the way through. Bravo 👌🏻
P.S. it would be cool to have more women on the podcast because we have such a different perspective and role in this fitness industry than men
Inner circle is definitely the best show to date. Keep it going! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
2:12 - ‘chasing this with milk’ - my favourite one liner of 2023 so far
Gumma's brain is so fried, he can't even get one full, coherent sentence out. He slurs or stutters at the end of every thought. Kinda sad really 😥
love your podcasts man! always interesting to hear the thoughts of the big players!
Absolutely love episodes like this! So captivating
Great podcast! Love how real you guys keep it with each other
Don’t agree about working from home, everyone is different.
Loved this podcast. One of the best episodes. I enjoy the deep business/ personal talk.
I thought this would be a boring episode since we already know a lot of you two guys, but the topic and the chat was very good. Amazing episode!
I need to see this trio more often
Now, 8 years later, not only does her grandchild attend the same private school as my children, she also teachers there 😂
Love this style. Please make Joe a regular.
Disappointing
some episodes we go deep into a few topics , some episodes we cover a vast variety. Dont stress dood
Damnn Fun Podcast Boys !! we need part 2 !
Can't ever skip an episode with Joe
The whole podcast was just Maxx trying to tell Christian he is concerned about his health and he wants him to take better care of himself 😢 such a good friend.
Seeing all you guys now and how far all of you come is great!
Christian and Heidi with a ranch of dogs is 100% in their future 😂❤ I can see it!
